Chapter 190:

? ? ? ? ?

“If Caden is really so powerful and influential, why would he even bother to come back and fight for his share of the Yates family inheritance?” Lilliana retorts.

“Well, what if the Ward family is actually more powerful than we think?” Cedric replied.

“Like I said, why would he bother? If that’s the case, wouldn’t it make more sense for him to stay with the Ward family and enjoy his current glory?” Lilliana snorted. “It even seems like he's spent a fortune just to deal with Joshua this time. What’s so special about Alicia? Why is Caden doing so much for her?”

Just then, a phone call interrupted their conversation.

He was Lilliana's former agent.

“Lilliana!” a female voice shouted as soon as the call connected. “Something big just happened. The accounts we used to attack Alicia on social media have been suspended and we can't contact the people using them. Word is someone has taken over.”

Lilliana frowned. “Do you have any idea who that is?”

“I'm afraid not,” the agent replied anxiously. “We're still looking into it. Considering the stir we caused on various online platforms, we're sure to get sued as soon as we're discovered. Also, someone posted recordings of your encounters with Joshua in various hotels, all while he was still married to Alicia. A lot of netizens are already calling you his mistress. “They’re making a lot of noise as we speak.”

Lilliana was furious.

It had to be Alicia again, it couldn't be anyone else! That bitch had gone for Joshua first, and now she was coming for Lilliana. Alicia was trying to ruin them one by one, that scheming bitch!

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Cedric was even more furious than Lilliana. “What the hell have you done to that woman?” I demanded in a thunderous voice.

Lilliana hung up and threw the phone aside in anger. “That bitch, Alicia, she deserved it! I just put her in her place; that's what she deserves! How was I supposed to know that everything was going to blow up one day?”

He turned to his father and quickly changed his tone. “You have to help me, Dad!”

Cedric let out a heavy sigh. There was so much going on at once. He was overwhelmed.

It took him a while to finally speak, and when he did, his tone was stern. “I'll help you, but you have to promise me that once this whole mess is settled, you'll quit the entertainment industry and behave, once and for all. Are we on the same page?”

Lilliana asserted vigorously, willing to agree to anything to fix the mess, as her father had called it.

Cedric stomped away, still smoking. Lilliana left shortly after seeing Joshua. Despite their differences, it was clear that this matter needed an immediate solution.

“It doesn't matter how much money we have, Joshua. We can't afford a scandal of this magnitude. “We have to close this before it gets worse.” Lilliana's eyes sparkled with mischief as she spoke. “We'll have to get rid of Alicia for good. “We can’t waste any more time.”

Countless cigarette butts littered the ground at Joshua's feet. He exhaled another puff of smoke and his face twisted into an expression of pure, unbridled hatred. “I know what I have to do.”

Meanwhile, Caden had just arrived at the Joy Mansion. He had promised Ciara that he would meet her for dinner that evening. As he was pulling out of the garage, his phone buzzed.

"I have news about the suspect, Mr. Ward. It was all orchestrated by Jerald."

Caden brushed the snow off his shoulders and his lips curved into a sneer.

So the person trying to take him out was his own father. He wasn't surprised, nor did he care much. "There's no need to keep an eye on him. He won't cause any real trouble."

"Understood, Mr. Ward."

Caden gave a few more instructions before hanging up.

The mansion was brightly lit, and Ciara sat gracefully in her chair, dignified and elegant, yet exuding a warmth that made the room feel inviting. When she saw Caden enter the foyer alone, she shifted into her seat.

“Why are you alone?” he asked calmly.

Caden took off his coat and handed it to a waiting servant. “I ended up working late, so I told Hank to go home first.”

Ciara gave him a dry look. The young man was becoming more talkative lately, and more cunning as well. But since Caden wasn't willing to talk about his love life, she decided to let it go. Worried that he was hungry, she quickly ordered the kitchen staff to serve dinner.

She had brought a trusted maid from her hometown, a woman with divine culinary skills. Each dish was tailored to Caden's tastes.

However, Caden found the food mediocre. The soup lacked flavor and the stir-fry dishes were undercooked.

“Have you had a checkup recently?” Ciara asked suddenly. “How about the results?”

Caden realized that he hadn't thought about his routine checkups for a while. Since he started living with Alicia, his illness hadn't been on his mind much. On the other hand, Ciara was constantly worried about him.

Seeing that Caden hadn't brought home a woman like she expected, Ciara thought the least she could do was ease her mind.

"I'll go get a check-up tomorrow," he said.

“Make sure you send me the results,” Ciara replied, not missing a beat. “I’d like to take a look at them myself.”

"OK."

They tie in silence for a while. When Ciara realized that Caden wasn't going to volunteer any information, she decided to poke him.

"Have you heard from Yolanda? She mentioned she's coming to Warrington in a few days."

“Warrington is so cold this time of year,” Caden replied noncommittally. “What's your hurry?”

Ciara’s eyes narrowed meaningfully. “Are you saying that because you're worried about her, or is it because you don't want her to come at all?”

Caden put a piece of fish on his plate without saying anything. Ciara waited for an answer, but he didn't even acknowledge her question.

And Caden wasn't going to do that. He'd only come to the Moss family for help in the first place because Dorian Moss, the family patriarch, had once been involved in a secret project.

Despite its initial success, the project was shut down and forcibly erased because it threatened to disrupt the social order as the world knew it.

However, Caden desperately needed the knowledge and experience that had been invested in the company. After years of searching, he has finally located Dorian, the only surviving member of the original team. With no other options, Caden had no choice but to propose a deal to the Moss family.

They stated that they did not want anything in return and offered their help without hesitation.

So Caden was surprised when Dorian refused to meet in person. Instead, Dorian sent Yolanda, a woman he had trained for over a decade.

"Yolanda is smarter than me and wants to explore the world. I trust my daughter to you, Caden. Take good care of her," Dorian had said.
