The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 218
Chapter 218:
Alicia's assistant could no longer keep her smile.
"We understand our place.
Your time is very valuable, Mr.
Tingey.
I'm sure you wouldn't want to waste it on us.
"
Mr Tingey grimaced.
“She lacks support and connections.
How long can she really survive in this industry? I can’t wait to see her embarrassed.
”
Alice's assistant fought the urge to retort, but held her tongue, aware that Alice still felt ill.
Without further ado, she turned and walked away.
Caden, who had heard him, looked away and got into his car.
Yolanda, sensing his discontent, asked softly, “What’s bothering you, Caden?”
They had just returned from an important meeting with a research manager, followed by a long conversation over dinner, but there were still unresolved issues.
Yolanda, always willing to help, said: “I will investigate this further when we get back and try to replace a solution quickly.
”
Caden switched on the ignition, his face unreadable.
“This isn’t your problem.
”
Yolanda thought briefly about her previous encounter with Alicia.
Alice had turned up quite untidy.
It had been unexpected.
Yolanda commented: “When I first met Miss Bennett, I assumed she was nothing more than a spoiled heiress.
But I was wrong.
She is truly dedicated to her career.
That is unusual for someone of her background.
”
Caden's expression darkened.
He had offered Alice resources, but she had turned them down, choosing instead to take on those unscrupulous old men on her own.
What a waste of effort.
Without another word, Caden silently walked out of the garage.
Mr.
Tingey's vehicle was ahead, and Caden kept a safe distance.
At a traffic light, Caden pulled out his phone and quickly sent a text message.
Within minutes, a sports car weaved through traffic and collided with the rear of Mr Tingey's car.
Mr.
Tingey got out of the car, cursing loudly.
The driver of the sports car grabbed a stick from the passenger side and hit Mr.
Tingey hard in the waist.
Mr Tingey screamed in agony: “Who are you?” but his only response was a series of rapid blows.
The attacker targeted the softer areas of his body.
The blows were not fatal, but they were excruciatingly painful.
Caden walked slowly, observing the scene with a distant expression, as if he were a mere spectator.
Meanwhile, Alice had consumed a significant amount of alcohol, and her medication had not worked, causing an allergic reaction.
She had to be hospitalized.
On her first day in the hospital, she was put on medication and slept all day and all night.
On the second day, the IV was removed and she returned to work.
Selecting paintings for the gallery took a lot of effort.
Alicia contacted each of the artists and signed copyright agreements with them.
In the midst of all this, Hank stopped by to see her.
Realizing how busy she was, he decided not to stay long.
Back at the office, Hank reported everything to Caden.
Caden listened intently, his expression unreadable, and then looked over the gallery’s paperwork.
He had originally intended to help her sort out her problems, but after looking over the documents, he saw that she had almost completed everything on her own.
He had invested all of his savings into the company.
Plus, his recent efforts had landed him contracts with almost all of the artists, so only a few with dubious intentions remained.
Caden realized he couldn't intervene.
He closed the folder with a quiet sigh.
“So, what are you busy with now?” he asked.
Hank thought for a moment before answering.
“Preparing for the future, I suppose.
After all, who would complain about having too many customers?”
Caden looked down at the scene he had witnessed earlier in the hallway.
He pursed his lips.
“Stubborn as they come,” he muttered.
Hank didn't answer.
In his mind, he could have said the same thing about Caden, who was just as stubborn.
He reminded Caden, “Mr.
Ward, considering Miss Bennett’s current condition, do you still plan to go to Averibon the day after tomorrow?”
Caden replied coldly, “Why wouldn’t I?”
Hank persisted, “What if Mrs.
Bennett needs your help?”
“She wouldn’t want me at her funeral.
Do you really think she needs me now?” Caden said, feeling a tightness in his chest as he removed his tie.
Hank muttered, “You two aren’t even in a relationship, and yet you act like a quarrelsome couple.
”
Caden’s expression hardened.
“What did you say?”
Hank quickly softened his approach.
“Let me get you a cup of coffee.
”
And he left in a hurry.
Later that night, Alicia was in her hospital bed, talking to Monica on the phone.
Monica told her: “I’ve seen Caden.
He’s doing great.
The staff loves him and they’ve gotten along really well.
”
Alice replied, “That’s great.
Have you been busy lately? I haven’t seen you in days.
”
Monica replied: “Let’s catch up the day after tomorrow.
I’ll be free then.
I’ll pick you up at the hospital.
”
“Okay,” Alice agreed, “What would you like to eat? I’ll make a reservation in advance.
”
Monica, who looked a little exhausted, began listing a variety of delicious foods.
After a brief pause, he asked, “Alicia, are you really done with Caden?”
Alice felt a pang of sadness.
“Yes.
He has someone else now.
”
Monica persisted: "So if he was still single, would you want to get back with him?"
Alicia opened her mouth, but was left speechless.
Deep down, when she apologized to him that day, she realized how much she still loved him.
She even hesitated, considering whether she should go back to Caden.
But now, his situation had deteriorated even further.
It seemed that fate had other plans.
I doubted I deserved true love.
Monica did not inquire further into such personal matters.
After finishing the call, she opened the door and entered her house.
Once the door closed behind her, a shadow appeared from around the corner, leaving a strange mark on her door.
