Chapter 229:

Alice spent a quiet night.

When she woke up the next day around noon, Caden was nowhere to be found.

She quickly got dressed and headed out.

The innkeeper was at the door, accepting a delivery.

Caden stood nearby, dressed in a long black down jacket, looking casual and with one hand in his pocket.

Although the snow had stopped, the wind was still howling fiercely.

Alice wrapped herself up warmly and sat down.

Caden had also received a delivery: several sets of clothes and various necessities.

The innkeeper, seeing the boxes of medicines among the items, raised an eyebrow and said, “These are high-quality medicines.

Who sent them?”

“A friend,” Caden replied bluntly.

“Impressive,” the innkeeper said with a smile.

“They’re not easy to replace, even with money.

Are these for your girlfriend?”

“Yes,” Caden replied without hesitation.

Alice was surprised.

She did not correct the innkeeper's assumption.

As Caden turned to carry the packages inside, he noticed Alicia.

She had been in his room for two days and looked paler, visibly thinner.

Her small face looked even more delicate in the cold light.

Caden walked over to her.

“Does your back still hurt?”

Alice hesitated, unsure of how much to say.

“It still hurts,” she replied, trying to hide the pain.

She quickly changed the subject.

“Did you have someone send the medicine?”

Caden raised an eyebrow and casually put the medicine back in his pocket.

Alice watched him with a knowing smile, recognizing the frustration on his face, the fact that she couldn't keep this from him any longer.

“Was it Hank who sent them?” he asked, slowly getting to the point.

“Delivery was pretty quick.

The wind whipped around them, so Caden wrapped his coat around her as they headed back inside.

“Let’s talk inside,” he suggested.

Alicia replied, “It doesn’t matter where we talk, Caden.

You said the weather was very hard and the road was blocked, so we couldn’t leave.

How did you manage to get the medicine delivered to you?”

It was clear to her that Caden's excuse was just that: an excuse.

It was clear that he wanted to spend more time here.

Now that they had the best medication for her fractures and back pain, by tomorrow, she could be completely at his mercy.

Was he keeping her here thinking that a change of location would make things more exciting between them?

Caden entered the room and closed the door behind them.

He wasted no time in asking, “Does your mouth still hurt?”

Alice immediately became defensive.

“Don’t even think about it!”

Caden smirked.

It wasn't his decision.

He unzipped his pants, ready to proceed, when a knock on the door interrupted him.

He paused, then reluctantly zipped up his pants.

With a sigh, he walked to the door and opened it.

The innkeeper stood with a box in his hand.

“Mr.

Ward, you left something behind,” he said with a knowing smile.

“Young people have a lot of energy, but be careful: your girlfriend is still recovering.

Caden accepted the box, thanking her calmly.

Alicia, however, had a bad feeling.

“What else did you buy?” she asked, her voice heavy with suspicion.

Without a shred of shame, Caden replied, “A box of condoms.

Alice was stunned.

“A whole box?”

Caden fought back a smile, but kept a straight face.

“Yeah, there are 150 condoms inside.

Alice was speechless.

She remained silent for a few moments before taking a step back and starting to search for something.

Caden raised an eyebrow.

“What are you looking for?”

“My phone,” Alice replied without missing a beat.

“I’m calling the police to get me out of here.

Caden remained unfazed.

“Wherever you go, we’ll still have to use those condoms first.

Now, lie down on the bed,” he ordered, opening the box.

Alicia was stunned.

“Caden, have you gone crazy? My back still hurts.

Caden pulled out a tube of ointment and waved it in front of her.

“Even if your back didn’t hurt, I’m too busy to do anything with you right now.

Alice was speechless.

Too nervous to look at him directly, she turned away and fiddled with the tablecloth.

Caden clicked his tongue in annoyance.

“What are you playing with? Get on the bed.

The room was cozy, and Alicia lifted her thin shirt, revealing her smooth, slender waist.

Initially, Caden had no improper thoughts.

But as soon as she lay down, her mind began to wander.

She didn't rush to apply the ointment.

Instead, she allowed herself to enjoy the feel of her skin for a moment.

Alicia bit her lip, burying her face in her pillow.

Caden knew how sensitive she was to touch, and it had been a while since they had been intimate.

A small gesture could easily ignite a flame.

He gave in to his impulses and leaned in to kiss her.

Alicia raised her head slightly, and Caden was satisfied, letting his hands wander under her clothes.

She didn't resist.

“Why are you so accommodating?” he asked.

Alice's eyes were shining with unshed tears.

In the softest tone, he spoke the harshest words.

“You won’t be able to do anything anyway.

If you’re okay with being frustrated, go ahead.

Caden remained silent, adjusting his demeanor.

He squeezed out some ointment and began applying it to the bruises.

Alice could sense his patience as he carefully massaged the sore spots over and over again.

It wasn't like him.

She lay there in silence, a small smile on her lips.

Then, teasing him, she said, “You’re definitely making an effort to have sex sooner.

Caden heard the sarcasm in her voice, but he didn't deny it.

Alice learned a lesson.

To continue receiving his attention, he knew he had to maintain his worth.

His physical attraction was undeniable, but one day, it would inevitably fade.

To remain relevant, he needed to grow in every aspect of his life.

She looked at Caden, imagining him being admired by many, making headlines and shining under the spotlight.

Caden noticed her gaze.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

Alice calmly replied, “Your actions have made me realize something.

"And what about?" he asked.

"I need to be strong and self-sufficient, so that no one can take advantage of me.

"

Caden instinctively replied, “With a man like me by your side, no one will dare to bully you.

Alicia smiled softly.

“When I married Joshua, he promised me the same thing.

Caden noticed the mocking yet determined expression on her face, feeling a moment of unease.

She had come to her own conclusions, she no longer placed the same trust and dependence on him as she had before.
