A cargo ship was chugging along the riverside, making the calm waters ripple and splash, turning the peaceful scene into a wave fest in an instant.

Inside a car parked on the shore, the atmosphere was sizzling hot. Even with the windows up and the AC on, nothing could cool down the fiery passion between the man and woman. Jocelyn was perched on Melvin's lap, kissing intensely with him, ignoring her sore lips.

The pleasure between a man and a woman seemed to erase all pain, like a cure-all.

She was so wrapped up in the moment with Melvin, not giving a hoot that they were outdoors or that they were in a car. She just wanted him, bad.

His words made her heart flutter uncontrollably.

She was determined to show the man how much she loved him.

Since he never listened to her saying, she'd show him with her actions that she was head over heels for him.

So in love that she could toss aside what society would judge her, ignoring the norms she once cared about.

In the heat of the moment, her hand tangled in his hair. She tilted her head back, responding to him with fierce passion.

Melvin had never felt her this passionate, this bold, and he had to admit that her actions were making him more ecstatic than ever.

The car tires dug deeper into the sand with each moment, leaving a noticeable trace.

After a wild shake of the car, the couple inside finally came to a stop.

Jocelyn, gasping for air, rested on Melvin's shoulder.

In the throes of passion, people do things they'd never dare to normally. But a wave of embarrassment would hit them after, making them feel all prissy and hypocritical.

She was blushed, too shy to look up, while Melvin lay back and relaxed. His chest was rising and falling with each breath, making her follow his rhythm.

His eyes, still glazed with desire, watched her with deep affection as he breathed heavily, "We've made up now."

"Mhm," Jocelyn agreed. She was a bit drained, never realizing her back could be this sore.

Melvin's hand massaged her lower back gently, "No more pointless jealousy from now on."

"She said that guy's family is in the tax bureau. Aren't you worried he might give you trouble for beating him up?" Jocelyn was still a bit concerned.

"I don't evade taxes. I'm all legit, then what trouble can they bring?" Melvin wasn't fazed by that guy at all.

Jocelyn looked at his smug face, remembering how he acted to that guy. Her fingers lightly traced his Adam's apple, and her eyes filled with admiration and infatuation, "That was the first time I saw you fight someone. Not sure if it's appropriate to say, but you looked really cool."

"You followed Willow just to get me to clean up the mess, didn't you?" Melvin caught her hand and brought it to his lips, "Don't do anything that foolish again. I might not always make it in time."

"Then you should remind Willow not to mess with me," Jocelyn wasn't hell-bent on revenge anymore. What Melvin did today was more than enough.

As long as the man she cared about cared for her in return, nothing else mattered.

The one who couldn't have him should be green with envy. So, Willow should realize that no matter what she did, it would only make Melvin despise her more.

Melvin gave a soft grunt in response.

She was easy to please, really. A little temper, a bit of drama, was not a big deal.

Melvin liked women who were obedient and knew when to step back.

After resting by the river for a bit, Melvin got his act together and drove the car away from the waterside.

They hadn't gone far when Melvin pulled over and unbuckled his seat belt.

"Where are you going?" Jocelyn glanced outside at the storefronts, clueless about what he was up to.

"Didn't use a condom. Wait for a sec," Melvin said.

It dawned on Jocelyn then-he was going to buy the morning-after pill.

Watching him head towards the pharmacy, the joy that lingered just now faded away.

They'd always been careful. Even during her safe days, he'd take precautions.

In the past few years, there were only a couple of instances where they didn't, and that was right before her period, which was always punctual, so he knew how to time it. Her period would come exactly the next day as expected.

His caution could be seen as looking out for Jocelyn's health, or as him never wanting their child.

For a guy who wouldn't even consider marriage, she never thought to ask why he didn't want kids.

Melvin came out from the pharmacy with a small bag and headed straight for the car.

"Take the pill," he said, handing her the medication and thoughtfully passing the water to her.

Jocelyn glanced at the pill and swallowed it without hesitation.

"Drink up the water," he brought the bottle to her lips.

She took the bottle and had a few sips, then forced a smile, "Relieved now?"

Melvin knew from her complexion that she wasn't in the best mood. He took the bottle from her, "We agreed on this before. It's just in case. If there's an 'oops', you're the one who gets hurt." Jocelyn was torn between thanking him for his thoughtfulness and resenting him for his heartlessness. She took a deep breath, "I know. It's fine."

"Alright," Melvin didn't want to dwell on the topic, "Home's a bit far, let's replace a hotel to shower and grab some food."

"Sounds good."

Jocelyn's spirits were low, listlessly staring out the car window.

Loving someone blindly can make you lose yourself, and she was blind as a bat.

No matter how mad she got, a little gesture from Melvin would make her forgive and forget.

Even knowing he was a confirmed bachelor, knowing he didn't want kids, she still couldn't leave him.

What a fool for love.

At the hotel, Melvin called his assistant to bring them some clothes.

Jocelyn showered first and when she came out, Melvin had just opened the door to let in a smartly dressed woman carrying two bags, handing them over without a fuss. The woman caught a glimpse of Jocelyn, but her face didn't give anything away.

After handing the bags to Melvin, she left.

"I thought Zephyr was your assistant?" Jocelyn had never seen this woman before.

But thinking about it, she hardly knew any of Melvin's friends or colleagues, except for Zephyr and Yannick, and of course, Willow, whom she had recently gotten to know. "Zephyr's one of the company shareholders," Melvin said, handing her some clothes, "That was Yara. She's been with me since the company started."

It's the first time Melvin mentioning someone close to him.

She took the clothes, "That's quite a while back. Sounds special."

Melvin glanced at her, "You're not jelly, are you?"

"Not at all. After all, she's not your type," Jocelyn wasn't the slightest bit threatened by Yara.

"Not my type? You think you know what I'm into?" Melvin was curious.

Jocelyn raised an eyebrow, "Sure do. You're into the pure and pristine, like a delicate little white flower kind of girl. Like Willow."

Melvin's brow furrowed.

"I didn't say it," Jocelyn quickly clarified, "Preston did."

Melvin narrowed his eyes, "You believe his words?"

"Kids don't lie," Jocelyn said with a forced smile.

"Other kids might not, but he's an exception," Melvin knew his nephew all too well.

Meanwhile, across the ocean, Preston suddenly sneezed mightily and quickly rubbed his nose. In such hot weather, could it be the AC's fault that he caught a cold?
