Silas' POV:

*Before the attack*

I was slumped at work the whole day. Lucas and I have been catching up on documents and requests from different packs, and, to top it off, we had continuous training the past few days. Whenever I returned to my room, either Lola was already asleep, or I was too tired to move a muscle. Somehow, I did not regret asking for a month's leave after all this was over. I was already looking forward to it, actually. Hmm. What do the whole month and where will I go with Lola? It would be nice if we could leave the country and have a relaxing trip somewhere. I'll just ask Lola where she wants to go.

Lucas and I were able to finish early, so we immediately went back to the chateau. Upon arrival, Lucas quickly went to look for his mate, and I did the same. For the first time in a while, Lola and I will be able to spend more time where both of us are awake or not yet tired. I sensed that she was in our room, so I went upstairs.

"Hey, we're back..." I guess I spoke too quickly.

In our bed, Lola was lying and was fast asleep. Well, I will let her get some rest. She must be tired from all her classes and training. With that, I decided to quietly work on improvements to the escape tunnel and the supplies in the hideout - canned foods, bottled water, blankets, milk for the young pups, first aid kits, and other stuff they might need. I heard rustling behind me, and slowly, I saw Lola getting up.

"Oh, you're back early. I didn't even hear you come in." She looked adorable, rubbing her eyes.

"Yup, we finished processing the requests and other paperwork early. You were sound asleep, so I didn't wake you."

"That's good. Then, you should've rested. Come here." She said, patting the space beside her.

I got up from my seat and went to lie down - head on her lap. Lola was gently caressing my head and humming a song. I closed my eyes and thought to myself: Ah! This feels good. When I opened my eyes, I saw her staring at me.

"If we are given the chance for a vacation, where do you want to go?" I asked her.

"Hmm. The beach! I always wanted to try to swim and do a freedive."

"So, are you OK with staying at the beach for a month? Or do you have other places you want to go?

"But what's up with all the questions? Are we going on a trip soon?" Her eyes soon filled with excitement.

"Well, yes. Lucas agreed that I could take a month's break."

"That's nice! Well then, besides the beach, I want to go to the City of Love - Paris!"

"Consider it done, love."

We stayed like this for a bit longer until we were called for dinner. Everyone was at the dinner table and casually talking about their day. It has been a while since we gathered like this. I didn't expect that I would miss those peaceful days until now. The night ended peacefully. Then, I was awakened by the loud alarms and Lucas shouting in my head.

"WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!"

F*ck! It's happening! Lola and I were quick on our toes and gathered everything we needed. We have practiced this several times so Lola knows the drill and where we hid the emergency bags. Before we left the room, I hugged and kissed her. "Do not go anywhere. Wait for me to come and get you,

OK?"

"Hm. I will wait. You had better be careful, too."

"I won't die that easily, love. And we still need to go on that vacation. I promise we will go to the beach and Paris. Just wait a little longer."

Then, we went our separate ways. Lola went to the tunnel's entrance while I moved west - to the mountains. I shifted to my wolf and took my position on this side of the kingdom. I waited and observed for any movements in the mountains. Then, hidden behind the boulders and valley of the mountains, an army of rogues were charging towards us.

*The Present*

Rogues were all over the kingdom - penetrating the sea and the mountains and blocking our other exits. They were trying to corner us and make us unavailable to help the others. I must say, it is a good strategy - eliminating the best fighters and getting them far from the center.

Tss. Well, we just have to finish the battle here and go to where the others are. Right, Hopi?

Yeah! And we need to get back to Lola as soon as possible.

Ha ha ha! Then, let's go!

As soon as the first group arrived, I shifted into my wolf and jumped straight into the battle - snapping their necks, clawing their throats, and biting off their heads. The soldiers on our side were charging forward, too. It was obvious that the training was successful. They were much stronger now and could eliminate most of the rogues.

This is easy. I anticipated they would drink a super potion to make them stronger and invulnerable.

I know, Hopi. But it is too easy. We still have to be careful and alert.

And soon, more and more rogues arrived. A wolf with a brownish fur and bigger than the other jumped and tackled me to the ground. It tried to bite my neck, but I quickly pushed it away. Quickly, I jumped to my feet and lunged forward to twist its neck. But unlike the other rogues, ! quickly eliminated, this one was faster at evading my attacks.

HA! So they have someone stronger. Finally! Hopi said Don't be so cocky, Hopi. Focus! Here it comes!

That was close. Luckily, we were quick enough to dodge its back kick. But after that, the wolf kept charging at us, not leaving an opening for us to strike back. I continued to back away from him and take cover. I have to think of something, fast. It's running fast, but the moment I move in a different direction, it slows down. Found it! That's my opening! So, I kept running - left to right, right to left. And just as I thought, it couldn't keep up. So, I stopped my movement and charged forward. This completely surprised him, and I took that opportunity to close in on him and take it down. I didn't let it fight back and snapped its neck quickly.

More were coming towards us, and rogues had hurt most of the soldiers here. They had incurred bruises and scratches, but the worrisome ones were bleeding heavily. I looked around, and the rogues had already killed a few of our soldiers. "HELP!"

I scanned the area to where the sound was coming from.

And there, one of our volunteers was being attacked by rogues. I rushed forward and broke the necks of the rogues. "Are you OK?"

I looked at him, but he had already lost his right arm, and the crook of his neck was spurting out too much blood. I pressed on his wounds to stop the bleeding, but I was too late! D*mn it! And as I got distracted, I didn't notice that the rogues took the opportunity to round me up. They were using numbers to fight against us. And there was something different about them. They didn't have that rotten smell, breathing heavily, and were acting more...hungry. I tried backing away from them, creating some space between us. "Too scared, boy?" One of them mockingly said.

"Tss. You wish. May you're the scared one, ganging up on me."

"An arrogant one. TEACH HIM A LESSON!"

Rogues on my left and right started to charge towards me.

The one on my left swung a powerful right jab while the other lushed out a flying kick. I bit the right arm of the rogue and threw his body at the other rogue. They both got hurled and fell to the ground.

"Useless wolves! The rest of you, attack him!" This one has the power amongst them.

"GRRRR!" The rogues growled as they lunged towards me.

"COME AND GET ME!"

If they thought four attacking me simultaneously would be enough to stop, they were obviously underestimating me.

With lightning speed, I smacked him on the ground with so much force that he coughed blood. They were striking at me from above and on the side, but none of them could land a scratch on me. In the end, they end up unconscious and with broken bones. "Now, you're the only one left. What cat got your tongue?"

"Oh boy, you think highly of yourself! I will show you true power!" His clothes started to tear as he shifted into his wolf form. My eyes grew wide as I was surprised at the size of his wolf - bigger than me. This might be a problem.

He sneered as he saw the look on my face and rushed towards me. Sh*t! He was faster despite his size. I almost couldn't see his movements. My eyes had difficulty following his moves - he shifted from right to left. He spun on his right foot, the left coming up and out, and I was caught squarely on the jaw. I was thrown to the other side, and my back bumped into a boulder.

"What now, boy? Where is that attitude of yours?"

I slowly stood up, grunting as I moved my body. That hurt.

His kick was so powerful that it threw me that far. But he was already charging again before I could even catch my breath.

Hopi, let's back away for now. Let's maintain a safe distance from him. He's too fast and strong. D*mn!

Roger that!

"Ha ha ha! You're backing away, boy? How shameful!" I could only keep a short distance from him.

"Stop running away and start fighting me!" He sneered as he used his back legs to push forward, catching up with me. I spun to the right as he tried to leap on me. His snout was already near the back of my neck. If there were any delay, my head would roll on the ground. I must end this; prolonging would not be good on my part.

I scrambled to my feet and lashed out punches with terrific power, landing a few on his face and stomach. But he doesn't budge. He swung left, but luckily, I quickly rolled my head away. I ducked and struck a right hook straight to his jaw, followed by a whip kick. He quickly shielded himself from the impact and rolled away from it. The rogue stood up, his breathing wheezing.

"Is that all you've got?"

An outburst of energy flowed through me, and again, I charged at him. He matched my energy and rushed forward to me. We battled until our lungs were out of air and our faces bloodied and battered. I made my final move as he missed hitting me - grabbing his wrist with my snout, I tore it off him. He screamed so loudly that almost everyone stopped their brawl. When he was too weak to move, I shifted to my human form, slid my arm around his neck, and twisted it.

I tried to stand up and steady myself, but my head roared with pain and dizziness.

Wait for me, Lola. It was my last thought as the darkness enveloped my vision.
