To Be Yours Again novel (Jenny and Alex) -
Chapter 1054 Something Fishy Behind His Injuries
Alec brought Dr. Gaarder with him when he showed up at Evan's villa. Jenny was off to the hospital, leaving Evan staring at Alec with a scowl on his face. "What's going on, Mr. Faust?"
"Dr. Gaarder will fly home soon. Before he leaves, I hope you could allow him to check your injuries. You probably wouldn't want to be using a wheelchair for the rest of your life," Alec explained with a half-smile on his face.
Evan shot him a look and noticed the ten bodyguards who came with Alec. He then smirked. "Is that so? Mr. Faust, seeing the men you brought, I thought you were here for a robbery."
"Mr. Clarke, you're overthinking it." Alec smiled gently.
"What if I refuse to let you in?" Evan challenged him. He stopped smiling as Alec's bodyguards marched over.
"Oh well, I would have no choice but to force my way in. You wouldn't want that to happen."
"Alec Faust, are you trespassing on private property now?" Evan's expression hardened. Alec was unbothered as he walked up to Evan. "How could you put it that way? I am doing so because I worry about your injuries. Why are you so against a checkup?"
Evan was silent, but his eyes were shooting daggers at Alec.
Alec questioned with a knowing smile, "Is there something fishy behind your injuries?"
At that moment, Evan realized that Alec must have caught on. Even if Alec had no confirmation of the details, he must have harbored suspicion. Evan thought, "Looks like I have to speed up the process of moving abroad."
"I have no idea what you're talking about. Please leave before I call the police, Mr. Faust," he scoffed, refusing to let Dr. Gaarder check his injuries.
Alec inched closer to him instead of walking away. "Mr. Clarke, I'm afraid there's no running away today." He was determined to make Dr. Gaarder perform a checkup on Evan to determine if the injuries were fake.
Howard Young stood in front of Evan as protection, but he was nothing to Alec. Just as Alec was about to pin down Howard, Jenny stopped her car on the porch. "Alec Faust! What are you doing?" He froze upon hearing Jenny's voice. He purposely chose a time when Jenny was at the hospital to visit Evan, but...
He glanced at Evan, who had a gleeful smirk on his face, and immediately pieced everything together. It was fine. Judging by Evan's reaction alone, he could tell that there was something fishy behind Evan's injuries. In other words, there was something fishy behind Jenny's abduction.
"Jenny, I brought Dr. Gaarder to perform a checkup on Evan," he replied.
Jenny finally noticed the doctor's presence, and her expression softened. "Okay. Just do the checkup. Why did you have to play rough?"
"Mr. Clarke, for some reason, refused the checkup. I could only force him to do so." Alec glanced at Evan with a smile.
Evan met Jenny's eyes and answered calmly, "Mr. Faust came knocking on my door with his men. I felt that he was here to assault me, not performing a checkup. Of course, I wouldn't agree to that." His explanation made sense because he had beef with Alec.
Jenny agreed that it was odd for Alec to show up with his men. "Alec, Evan is still injured. What were you planning to do?"
"He's injured? But I wonder if those are actual injuries." Alec snickered. Even though he didn't have solid evidence, he was almost sure that Evan was faking the injuries.
Jenny frowned at his weird accusation. Why would Evan use a wheelchair if he wasn't injured? It wasn't pleasant to be wheelchair-bound.
