To Be Yours Again novel (Jenny and Alex) -
Chapter 1097 Sorry for Making You Worry
In the hospital room, Jenny pushed the door open and found Evan leaning against the bed with a pale face. In the past, Jenny would have felt very sorry for him, but now, she didn't feel guilty for the state he was in as she knew he was pretending to be ill. She even had the urge to expose his pretense then and there. However, she restrained herself and glanced at Howard standing beside him. She had to come up with a way to test him.
"Jenny, weren't you busy with something? Why are you here now?" Evan asked and smiled at her.
Jenny suppressed her emotions and walked toward him. "I finished my work, so I came to see you." "Sorry for making you worry," Evan said with a guilty expression.
His words moved Jenny. She couldn't believe that the person in front of her was pretending. If he was acting, he was excellent at it. In her opinion, he was even better than the top actor who won the academy awards.
Jenny walked to his bed and said with a faint smile, "Evan, don't say that. You're in this state because you saved me. If anyone should apologize, it should be me."
Neither of them mentioned the issue of going abroad. Both Jenny and Evan were able to remain calm about the matter, but Howard couldn't. "Miss Walter, have you thought about it? Will you go abroad with Evan? The doctor has said that the sooner he gets the treatment, the better it will be for his condition."
Evan looked at him disapprovingly and ordered, "Shut up and get out."
"But-" Howard was unwilling to leave.
"Get out!"
Seeing that Evan was a bit annoyed at that point, Howard had no choice but to leave for the time being.
As soon as he took a step forward, Jenny suddenly grabbed his right arm, causing him to feel a sharp pain and break out in a cold sweat. However, he didn't cry out in pain but instead looked at Jenny and pretended as if nothing had happened. "What are you doing, Miss Walter?"
"I was delayed in the morning and didn't have breakfast. Could you please help me buy some food?" Jenny then let go of Howard's arm, smiled at him, and turned to face Evan as she added, "Evan, I don't think you've eaten either."
Howard looked at Evan, who nodded. "Okay. I'll go now."
After he left the ward, Jenny took the opportunity to sit beside Evan. "Do you feel any discomfort anywhere?"
"No, I'm fine. Don't listen to what Howard said. Even if I don't go abroad, there won't be any problems." Evan shrugged nonchalantly, trying hard to act like nothing was wrong.
But Jenny's heart sank tremendously upon hearing his words. If there was nothing wrong, why bring up going abroad? He was reminding her about it discreetly on purpose.
Thinking back now, Jenny found Evan was constantly trying to manipulate her with his words. It was just that she'd trusted him too much before and didn't think too much about it. But it was different now. Although Howard didn't cry out in pain earlier, Jenny still noticed his pained expression, even if he hid it quite well. It was indeed the same as what Alec had said-Howard's arm was injured. She could still deceive herself by saying that it might not be a gunshot wound and that it might not have been caused by Alec at all, but she couldn't do it anymore. She understood more than anything that there weren't so many coincidences in this world.
"Evan, I've thought about it. I don't think going abroad with you is a bad idea." Jenny suddenly spoke up, and her answer stunned Evan.
In fact, when Jenny didn't give an answer yesterday, Evan was a bit disappointed. He thought he would need to make an effort to convince Jenny. He didn't expect she would agree so easily! "Jenny, are you sure you've thought it through?" Evan was uncertain and suspected that she was pulling his leg.
Jenny nodded affirmatively. "Of course, as long as it can help you recover, I'll do anything for you."
In her heart, Jenny questioned, "Evan, if I'm willing to sacrifice everything for you, will you feel even a tiny bit guilty for your deception toward me?"
