To Be Yours Again novel (Jenny and Alex)
Chapter 1222 Magnanimous Brother-In-Law

Pete smiled and said, "I know, you're fixated on Alec. I really don't see what's so good about him that's worth your affection."

"You wouldn't understand." Jenny seriously doubted that Pete, who grew up in the Dafoe family, would understand what love was. Her guess was indeed correct-he didn't understand, nor did he intend to figure it out. If love would make him follow in Eric's step, he would rather never have something that destructive for the rest of his life.

"I'm done joking around with you. I'm here to invite you to dinner." Pete returned to normal and stated his intentions clearly.

Jenny looked at the time and found that it was indeed time for dinner. However, she'd already made plans with Alec earlier. "I don't think there's a need for that. We're just partners working together for a common goal. You don't need to thank me."

"I'm not thanking you. I just think you're quite to my taste. As your younger brother, I should treat you to a meal," Pete said with a smile. The word "younger brother" made Jenny's hair stand on end. She glared at Pete sternly and said dryly, "Stop talking nonsense. I don't have a younger brother as old as you."

"Oh? Why don't you ask Lynette? I think she considers me her son." Pete grinned confidently.

Jenny didn't know how he had the audacity to say such shameless words. He hadn't exactly treated Lynette well. What made him think that she would consider him her son?

Waving at him dismissively, Jenny tried to shoo him away. "Go away. I don't have time to eat with you."

"Come on, let's have a meal together...my dear sister." Pete blinked at her pleadingly like a spoiled brat.

A chill ran down Jenny's spine as she looked at him. At that moment, she thought he looked like a devil. "What do you want?"

"Nothing. I just want to improve our relationship and have more contact with you in the future. After all, we're siblings," Pete justified.

Jenny didn't know what to say to that.

Obviously, she didn't believe what Pete said. Upon careful consideration, she guessed that he couldn't suppress the Dafoes now and wanted to improve his relationship with her in order to secure help. After all with the support of the Walters, he would have more say within the Dafoe family.

Alec walked in right then. Seeing Pete there, his cheerful expression immediately became gloomy. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, you're here, my dear brother-in-law. Perfect timing, let's have dinner together," Pete declared smilingly despite Alec looking all grumpy and unfriendly.

Alec was at a loss too. He turned to look at Jenny, as if asking her what Pete meant by that. Jenny shook her head, indicating she hadn't the foggiest idea either.

"My dear sister and brother-in-law, let's go. Come on, don't leave me hanging like this," Pete spoke again, looking slightly aggrieved.

Alec walked to Jenny's side. His originally indifferent face softened a bit. "Okay."

"Alec..."

"He called me his brother-in-law. How can I refuse him?" Pete's way of addressing flattered Alec to no end.

Jenny was speechless, silently cursing that Alec was unreliable at times like these.

"As expected of my magnanimous brother-in-law!" Pete then clapped his hands and announced, "Let's go. I've already booked a restaurant."

With that, Pete turned around and walked out, Alec and Jenny towing behind.

"Why did you agree, Alec?" Jenny was sure Pete had ulterior motives.

Alec didn't care. He hugged Jenny and whispered in her ear, "We both know his little tricks, and they won't affect us. So, what's the harm in agreeing?" "But... "Jenny was aversive toward any further relations with the Dafoes.

"Jenny, do you really think Lynette doesn't care about Pete at all?" Alec suddenly asked, stunning Jenny with his question.
