The man looked at Sean and said enthusiastically, “Sir, ma’am, nice to meet you.” “I’m working for theskateboard association, and I think your son has a lot of potential. I was just wondering if you’d beinterested in sending him to us for professional training. He might even make it to the world cup in thefuture.
“It’s known to everybody that skateboarding was a new Olympic sport. This could be a chance for him tomake our country proud.” He was very sincere. He sounded very polite and gentle too. That was whyMolly and Sean listened to him without interrupting him. Molly had no idea whether to explain herrelationship with Sean first or to answer his question first.
Sean sounded very calm as he said, “Nice to meet you too. The kid is still young. It’s better for him tomake his own decisions. He might need some time for this, and we can’t give you an answer now.”
The man nodded. He understood what Sean was trying to say as he continued asking, “Can weexchange numbers then?” After that, he said solemnly, “Please consider this very seriously.” Seanlooked at Molly, and their eyes met. Molly nodded and gave the man her number as she gave up theidea of explaining her relationship with Sean. Tony looked puzzled and confused after they said goodbyeto the man. “How did he get recruited by the people from the skateboarding association just by doingthat? Besides, did he say something about making our country proud?’ Claudia ran to Ben and gave hima compliment, “Bro, you’re so impressive!” Molly had been inculcating such values in the triplets whenthey were still living abroad. All of them knew that making the country proud was the crowning glory ofall!
They would think of their home country no matter where they were. Alex chimed in. “Yeah. Ben, you’re sogood.”
Molly held their hands and kept walking casually. She was very glad that her kid’s competency wasacknowledged by other people, and she also felt very happy for Ben.
She reached out and touched Ben’s head before saying to him seriously, “Ben, you’ve got to think thisthrough. It’s going to be very tough once you decide to join them. It’s nothing like being at home, and youmight even get hurt. Your coach will require you to make a lot of difficult moves, and he is going tocriticize you if you fail to meet his expectations. There are going to be countless wounds and scarsbehind the crowning glory. You have to sacrifice a lot of things in order to achieve that.”
Ben heard what she said and nodded before responding, “Mom, I’ll think about it.”
Some things were never as glamorous as they may appear to be. Molly taught him about that previously,so he could understand everything she said.
Molly patted his shoulder and held his hand. Then, she stopped talking.
Tony was impressed by what happened in front of him as he said, “Ms. May, is this how you’ve beeneducating your children?” It is rare to see how parents respect their children’s opinions these days, letalone allow them to make their own decisions.
Especially in a wealthy family, almost every child had to do what their elders told them to. They wouldusually have to learn Olympiad maths or attend interest classes that would make them look very elegant. They would only do that because everybody else from a wealthy family did too.
So, he was very amazed by how Molly educated her child. Molly smiled faintly. She turned around andlooked at him before saying, “The kids have their own ideas and things they want to do too. They’re alsoan independent individual, so I respect their opinion.” That was also something she learned from hercollege when she was still working abroad.
