Chapter 0615

The pediatric wing of the hospital was decorated with colorful murals and cartoon characters. There was even a play area designed to help children relax.

But none of it seemed to catch Tabitha's attention. She was listlessly leaning on Nicholas' shoulder. Her eyes were half-closed, likely from being up so early.

The nurses assigned to engage her exchanged helpless glances. Normally, the check-up process required separating the child from their parents. However, Tabitha clung tightly to Nicholas, leaving them unsure of how to proceed.

None of them dared to overstep by taking the child from him. Not only was Tabitha a special case, but Nicholas' imposing status made the thought of offending him unthinkable. They appeared close to tears as their gazes darted to me for help.

I understood Tabitha's aversion to strangers. The fact that she hadn't acted out already was proof of how well- behaved she was trying to be.

I extended my arms toward her. "Can I stay with her for the check-up?"

The doctor hesitated before nodding.

"That's fine. But besides observing the child's behavior, we also need to interview the parents. We'll need to assess all aspects of her environment to accurately pinpoint the causes and tailor the best treatment plan. So, if Mr. and Mrs. Hawk accompanies her, it may take a bit more time later."

"That's not a problem. I've set aside the day to be here with her."

I glanced at Nicholas. "What about you? Do you have work to handle?"

Nicholas had spent the entire morning working on his phone. Lately, he'd spent an unusual amount of time at Coral Villa, constantly moving between the study and the living room to stay near Tabitha and me. I knew how busy he was, so I wasn't sure he could spare the time.

Nicholas looked briefly surprised. He then lowered his gaze and smiled softly.

His large hand moved to the back of my head, sliding down to rest at my nape with a gentle squeeze. "Silly. Don't ask questions like that. I'll always have time for the two of you."

My breath hitched, and the loud beating of my heart was covered by the gasps of the people around us.

Someone even boldly asked, "Mr. Hawk, is yesterday's trending topic true? Mr. and Mrs. Hawk look so sweet together! We're all so envious!"

Heat rushed to my cheeks. When I looked up, Nicholas was already watching me.

He didn't respond to the question directly, but the look in his eyes as he met mine was indescribably tender.

At that moment, he felt happy. His wife and child were by his side, his love was admired by others, and his career was successful. This was the life he had always wanted.

He didn't mind telling the whole world that he was willing to give everything for his family. This was what he should do.

The gloomy mood from last night and earlier seemed to be healed by me, who looked shy before him. Even after all our years together, I would still blush for him.

As his smile grew wider, I quickly pulled my hand from his and tried to maintain composure. "Stop messing around. Let's get started already."

"Alright," Nicholas replied. His gaze swept the room as he announced, "My wife's just a little shy."

He pulled me into his arms. For a moment, I couldn't tell if the heartbeat I heard was mine or his.

When he told the doctor to begin, I muttered in a voice only Nicholas and I could hear, "Who's your wife?"

To my dismay, Nicholas caught every word. Nicholas' eyes curved in amusement. "For Tabitha's sake, I guess you're my Mrs. Hawk for now."
