True Luna: The Darkness Within: Chapter 44

Logan’s POV

I had to go inside and talk to my daughter so when I saw Anna and Janet walking back, I approached them and took the plate from Janet’s hands.

“Alpha Logan…,” Hunter spoke, but I interrupted him.

“I know that you want to go in there, but I need to talk to my daughter,” I said as I looked at him. “You will be able to go in, Hunter, but you will have to wait a little.”

He tightened his jaw and clenched his fists. He looked like he was in pain. It was hard seeing him like that, but Sophia was my priority.

I knew what she was going through and I needed to talk to her. Taking someone’s life was never easy, no matter how justified it was. She needed to know that her father knew what it felt like. She needed to know that I would go through every painful step with her.

My princess needed me.

I knew exactly what Alex told her. I knew what Hunter would say. It was the truth. We would have killed them if she didn’t. I wouldn’t let them take another breath.

But Sophia didn’t need to hear that. She was in pain. She was disappointed in herself and embarrassed because of the things she did. She couldn’t understand that we would have done the same.

I didn’t wait for Hunter to respond. I walked inside the cabin and headed to the room my princess was in. I took a deep breath before I opened the door and looked at my children. Warmth spread through my body and I couldn’t help but smile a little.

I loved them with my entire heart and soul. They were my whole world.

My princess glanced up at me but immediately lowered her head.

“I was sure that Hunter would bring the food,” Alex mumbled.

“He wanted to, but I asked him if I could do it,” I said as I closed the door and approached my kids. “I wanted to talk to my princess.”

I kept my eyes on her as I placed the plate on the nightstand and sat next to her. She never looked up at me and my heart clenched painfully.

My daughter didn’t deserve this.

I ran my fingers through her hair and leaned in to kiss her temple.

“Alex, bud, can you give us a few minutes alone?” I asked, keeping my eyes on my princess.

“Dad…,” Lex spoke, but I interrupted him.

“Just a few minutes, buddy,” I said as I looked up at him

I could tell that Alex was nervous to leave her, but I needed him to. I needed to talk to her alone. Alex leaned in and kissed the top of her head.

“I will be right back, Fia, okay?” he said, looking down at her.

She nodded but didn’t look up at him. I could see the pain on Alex’s face as he stood up and left the room.

Thank you, bud. I mind-linked him. I love you.

I love you too, dad. He mind-linked me back.

My princess leaned into me and I tightened my arms around her.

“Hi, princess,” I said as I kissed her temple again. “I missed you so much.”

I didn’t have time to show my emotions, but there wasn’t a second when I didn’t want to scream and tear things apart. I couldn’t do it though. My daughter needed me to be calm. I wouldn’t be of any use to her if I let my emotions overwhelm me.

I could let them out now. I could cry now when she was safe and in my arms.

“Did Alex tell you?” she asked quietly.

“He did, princess,” I said as I ran my fingers through her hair.

She sobbed and I tightened my arms around her.

“I killed them, Dad,” she said, her voice trembling. “I said horrible things to Mom and you. I…”

She stopped talking and pressed herself closer to me.

I gulped and took a deep breath. I decided to handle one issue at a time.

“I know how it feels to take a life, princess,” I said softly. “It is never easy, no matter how justified it is. I know what you are going through, and I know how hard it is.”

My little girl lifted her head and looked at me. My heart broke when I saw the pain on her face. I caressed her cheek and wiped the tears from her face.

“It is the worst feeling in the world,” my princess said, her bottom lip trembling. “I can’t believe that I did it. I took someone’s life. I watched them die and I was happy.”

She shook her head and sobbed.

“I was happy, Dad,” she cried out. “I am a horrible person.”

She buried her face into her hands and let out a sob that broke my heart.

I picked her up and placed her on my lap. I wrapped my arms around her as tightly as I could without hurting her.

“Listen to me, Sophia,” I said softly. “You are not a horrible person. You were under the influence of dark magic. Those people tortured you for days and you were angry.”

I placed a kiss on the top of her head before I continued.

“I know that it won’t help you to hear that we would have killed them if you didn’t,” I continued. “But I know for sure that if this Sophia was there, she would never do what the darkness told her to do.”

I placed a finger under her chin and lifted her head gently.

“I am not here to tell you what could have been, love,” I said softly. “I am here to cry with you, hold you, and tell you that I will always be here for you, no matter what.”

A tear fell on her cheek and I wiped it away.

“The same goes for your mom, brother, and the rest of our family,” I said. “We all love you so much and we will be here through it all.”

She gulped and furrowed her eyebrows a little.

“But I said such terrible things to Mom,” she cried out, making me smile a little.

“Your mom doesn’t care about that, princess,” I said as I caressed her cheek. “She never took those things to heart. She loves you more than anything in this world and you have nothing to be embarrassed about.”

I leaned in and kissed her cheek.

“Your mom hasn’t stopped mind-linking me since I came in here,” I said, chuckling. “She wants to know if you are okay and if she can come in and see you.”

I’d been ignoring Emma all along, but she was relentless.

“In a few minutes,” my daughter mumbled as she leaned her head on my shoulder and hugged me tightly.

I smiled and hugged her back.

“Thank you, Dad,” she said. “I love you.”

My heart melted completely.

“Oh, my little girl,” I said. “I love you too.”

I leaned my head on hers and took a deep breath.

Getting over what happened wouldn’t be easy for her, but I would be there every step of the way. She was my child and I would never let her go through it alone.
