Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 103

"W...W...Who are you?"

The strong aura that the man emitted earlier is dwindling with his shock. Suddenly, all his years of doing whatever he wants has crumbled and nothing will be the same.

"It doesn't matter who I am, what matters is who you are. Alpha Simon of the amber pack, father to Oscar and Maggie Greyson and mate of Astrid Greyson" Simon takes another backward step as Evie emerges from under the bed.

"You have a wife and daughter and do this to me?"

Her voice is so soft that it is barely a whisper on the breeze. Evie walks forward on shaky steps to grip Leilani's dress. She needs that support to look in the eyes of the man that has done so much to her. She is still quivering in fear even behind the unyielding protection of Leilani.

Lani doesn't let it show how much Evie's movement has compromised her abilities, she is just trying to bluff her was through, keep Simon shocked and scared so that he does not attack.

Lani can take down a male alpha wolf, but she needs to be at full capacity.

She wasn't expecting it to be Simon. She is not sure what she was expecting at all, but it wasn't a family man and an alpha like Simon, she was thinking it was someone with no status and no power that tries to overcompensate in such a way. Such a disgusting way. First Maggie and now this? Maybe that whole family is just f*cked.

Maybe if Simon is capable of doing this then Leilani should be thankful that Maggie only smashed her forehead against the wall. When she looks at all this and what Maggie's father is capable of, maybe she should be happy that she was not tortured. Simon turns to the side too late. He only has a chance to make two steps toward escape, but his only escape would be deeper into the mine, to nowhere. From here he is cornered as four large men block the only exit.

"Don't do anything stupid if you value your life. We don't value your life at all, so one wrong move and we will happily take it"

Simon looks back at the girl who was a little too perfect, his favourite turned into his downfall. Did he rush it too much? Where did he go wrong? Where did this group come from? Was the potion faulty?

All these years undone so quickly, he survived the large scale search for Evie, he survived the smaller scale search for Rosalie. His every move has been perfect, he screens the girls properly. Was he too impatient with this one? Did he have too much confidence? "How?"

Lani laughs coldly, gripping Evie's hand to provide her comfort.

"I guess you aren't as smooth or as smart as you think you are. Did you really think bad deeds could go unpunished for a lifetime?"

Lani has no idea that she hasn't even scratched the surface of Simon's bad deeds, she is only taking this at face value, because what she sees is bad enough. She has no idea that this man has ruined her own life. What he did to her whole family? She has no idea that she could have been a loved daughter, she could have had a different life, a blessed life.

She has no idea that she is standing in front of the mastermind that robbed all that from her.

Even if she knows it, it wouldn't change her opinion much, Simon deserves death, whether it is for one thing or the other. No matter what it doesn't bring her a happy childhood, neither does it bring back Evie's innocence or her happy life, her mental health, her physical health.

Looking at the malicious look in Leilani's eyes, Simon decides to try his luck to escape. Either he escapes or he dies. He can't even imagine what they are going to do to him. Leilani can read this man like a book. She waves her hand at her brothers. "Capture him alive"

Simon tries to run through them and the boys take him down with maximum prejudice. Leilani said to keep him alive. She said nothing about keeping him unharmed and they know her well enough to know that she wants him to hurt, she wants him to hurt badly. Simon hits the ground hard, with as much damage to his body in the process as possible.

Evie's honey-colored eyes watch the movements, watch the man that has caused her so much pain, grunt and groan on the floor, how easily he was taken out, he is the source of her fear, yet, at the hands of this group, he looks like nothing.

Evie's whole front is pressed against Lani's back, Lani is her support, her security blanket, her shield. Lani just allows it.

"Finlay, Madden, knock him out, drag him out, tie him up and then you guard him, see if he will offer up any information. Let's check the other rooms and see who else is there. No one else needs to see this piece of sh*ts face even once more until they are ready" The boys nod, Lani looks at Evie.

"Did you want to go with them or do you want to come with me?"

Evie is hanging onto Lani closely. She looks at the boys who are looking at her with an inquiring look, while Lani trusts them and they don't seem like bad people. She doesn't want to leave Lani. She is not ready to accept being in close proximity to any men at all, there is too much trauma there.

"I will stay with you, if that is okay?"

Evie feels like less than nothing in Lani's presence, she wants to be strong, she wants to be like Lani, but she feels like that is a lifetime away. Lani nods at the boys, who proceed to drag Simon away.

Lani pulls Evie from behind her back and embraces her as they start to move forward. Even though the girls are the same height, Evie is a lot skinnier. Two girls of relatively the same size. One is the fierce protector. One is in need of comfort, making Lani look large next to Evie. "Of course, anything you need"

Oscar's stormy blue eyes are ablaze as he looks at Maggie. He is angry. He is grieving for what could have been. He could have had a proper family. He could have had a loving father. He could have had a happy mother. He could have had a strong and beautiful sister and instead he's been living in this mess. He could have had a proper pack, a home.

Oscar has always been a firm believer in trying to make the best of a bad situation. Having an 'it is what it is' outlook, but all those allowances, all the loneliness, all the mistreatment, none of it was necessary.

There were too many bad people against the small family. He wants to get all those years back, but obviously, that is not something that is possible.

His happy family life can never, ever be. A hopeless dream of a happy childhood and loving family was cut short so long ago.

Now all he can do is grab on tightly to the remnants, but it is going to be an uphill battle. There is a massive divide between him and a sister he has only got to say a few sentences to. There is a massive divide between him and a mother that was so broken that she allowed this all to happen.

He speaks with anger mixed with heartbreaking desperation.

"Tell me Maggie, tell me now"

Maggie looks at the man in front of her. He looks different than she has ever seen him look before. A level of desperation, a level of anguish, a level of hatred that she could never imagine before. He has just taken everything in his stride before. She never thought he was jealous of the way that she was raised, but as soon as the truth came to light it has changed everything.

But she will never admit that this is the truth. While it explains everything, while it explains why with her so-called pure alpha blood, she hasn't been able to heal the way she should. It explains why her wolf is smaller than it should be and why her general aura and everything about her is lesser. It explains why she doesn't look like the beautiful Astrid and even much like her father, there is some pathetic woman in the mix, a woman that cursed her with this tainted blood and weak body.

A woman that made such a mess for her and then had the audacity to just die. A woman that wasn't even good enough to become luna.

Maggie is not willing to accept it. Accepting it means that her mother is the weakest omega in the pack. Even with her father's alpha blood, hasn't it been so diluted within her that she has picked up all the omega traits.

Her mother isn't actually the strong and beautiful luna. It instantly degrades her worth. Gabriel would never accept her when and if this comes to light. He is already bitter about the things that she has done. The only thing that is keeping in her position is her superior blood line.

But the thing she can't accept the most, is that the girl that Connor left her for. The girl that has Gabriel so enamoured. As much as Gabriel tries to deny it, Maggie can see that look, that interest, that lustfullness.

Maggie can tell that Oscar has decided that Leilani is Cora. If that is true, if Leilani is the alpha blood, does she have a single chance with Gabriel? If he was to discover the truth, Gabriel would stop at nothing to get Leilani and then where does that leave her? She doesn't even have the family support to fall back on. She has nothing.

She will no longer be the celebrated alpha's daughter, looking in Oscar's eyes now, seeing the hate and violence. There is no way that Oscar is going to allow Simon to live. He's going to kill him for his crimes and then where does that leave her? Completely orphaned?

What are the chances of Astrid still loving her? Astrid has a her real daughter out there and Maggie has just taken the place because of a crime.

Even if Simon manages to escape and she still has him, where does that leave her? He will just be in hiding for his life, but that doesn't allow her the life of leisure or pleasure that she is become accustomed to.

If she won't admit the letter is real. The thing that she wants even less, the truth that she doesn't want to believe, the thing that she will deny until there is no air left in her lungs.

There is no way that she will admit that Leilani is Cora. It is not happening, it is not possible.

"Why do you want to know about Leilani? She is just a nothing, just a peasant girl"
