Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 121

Connor throws his bag over his shoulder and links Harvey to tell him that he is ready to go. Harvey will drop him off at the location as Connor cannot risk his car being left in place. It looks normal for him to to arrive in a car. If he runs in his wolf form with a bag, it

might start raising questions that he doesn't want to answer. He needs everything to look normal.

Harvey will wait for him, keeping out of sight. Connor will grab the bag out of the car and Harvey will drive away. It will all look like Connor is doing exactly what he's meant to be doing. He cannot risk a car being left there because the group is just too good. He doesn't know whether they have let their guard down on him or not.

Connor I cannot miss this opportunity, he needs to get it done now because by the time he finally gets to see Terrence again, the time will be up and he will be needing to hand over to another Alpha. He needs time to train. He needs time to do all these things and he doesn't want to spend another moment away from her.

It is the closest he has felt in years to seeing her. He knows it's an arduous journey ahead, but the prize at the end is worth it.

Silence fills the car on the ride there. Connor is nervous about what he's going to replace when he gets there.

As they pull up outside the meeting place, Harvey looks at Connor. Connor twists his hands together, which is the only sign of his anxiousness. Harvey pats Connor's shoulder.

"From the bottom of my heart, I wish you good luck. Bring our Luna home Connor. I want to see you happy. I want to see you with a family. I want you to move into the alpha house. I want you to feel that love that I know you already have but be able to express it. I hate the way you watch other mated couples when you think no one is watching. I hate seeing you look away because it hurts too much. I want you to feel that, I want you to have a relationship. I want you to have that person that you love, not a lost love like you have now. I want you to have a found love that you can feel every day. It has been long enough. It has been thirteen years since you've had a family. It's well long enough and if anyone deserves it in this world, it is you. All of this work and everything you have put into everything else. You deserve it back tenfold. You deserve to enjoy it. You have built this pack to what it is. You deserve to be the alpha. Your son or daughter deserves to take this pack. It needs to be your legacy, the Stormy pack cannot leave the Storm family" **Day of separation**

Leilani slips into the car without looking back. She can't look back. She is so afraid of what she might see. While she knows that there are two people that will be great together, one person that needs the other and the other that will be everything, be the perfect partner.

While she knows that they will be perfect, there is no way she can watch that. There is no way she can turn back and see them talking. See them embracing, see them kissing. It hurts so much.

Connor was going to be her future, but all that is gone now. And the worst part is that she can't even hold it against Evie. She can't fight Evie for him, because how would that be fair? How could she possibly do that?

Evie already has no one. Her family is not there. She needs this more than Lani does. Even if it breaks Lani apart. She knows that she is doing the right thing. Knowing she's doing the right thing and being able to watch it are two different things.

As Lani sinks into the depths of the comfortable leather seat of the SUV, he feels none of that luxury. She might as well be sitting on a seat of razor-blades, her wolf is urging her to go back and claim what is hers, her mind is tearing itself apart as she thinks about all the things that will no longer happen. The home and pack life for her brothers and herself is just gone.

Her future and her family is gone, the pain hurts so badly that she can't breathe, it is nothing like when she found out what Gabriel was to her. Back then it was her just trying to organize her thoughts, her questioning herself and her working out a plan. This is nothing like that. There is no plan, there will be no revenge, no backlash.

It is two people that will be happy together and she is just left out in the cold, maybe where she belongs.

She has her brothers. She was too greedy to ask for more. This must be the goddesses way of telling her not to deviate from the original path. Her work is more important than her happiness.

Family and home is not on the cards.

She should never have expected more.

She already had more than enough.

Leilani sinks into Hudson's arms and breaks down. Her grief fills the whole car.

Finlay takes off. The others have no idea what happened, but Lani's grief affects them all.

One smile from Lani can light up an entire room, make them all feel joy, but sadness from her is enough to grip them all in the vice of despair.

Not a single one of them notice Connor who is catching up to the car. His fingers are just about to touch the paintwork of the vehicle when the vehicle lurches forward. It is not something that Connor can't easily catch up but before he takes a single step forward, he falls to his knees as a tearing pain rips through his body.

"Maggie?"

His voice is confused, the bond may have been broken, but he knows exactly what this is. Maggie is gone, that is his last thought before everything fades to black.

The large man collapses on the ground, the dust from the departing SUV settles over his unconscious form as it takes the mans love far away. The unconscious figure has no idea that this is the closest he will be to her in a great number of years.

He has no comprehension that the tail lights of the vehicle is her driving out of his life for good, that he won't get a chance to explain at all.

"Connor?"

Steel gray eyes slowly open to look at Harvey who is crouched beside him with a look of concern on his face. Connor's eyes dart from Harvey's face to the others around him, the faces that he expects to see, the faces that he wants to see are not there. What he wouldn't give to have Leilani's concerned face looking down at him right now.

There are just a few familiar faces and the blonde girl, his fated mate, the girl he hasn't even exchanged names with yet.

"Where is she?"

"She is gone alpha, what happened?"

"Maggie was killed"

Connor rolls over and pushes himself up off the ground, his whole body protesting heavily with the movement. Maggie was killed at the worst possible time. Why did the broken bond affect him so much?

Connor tries to shift into his wolf but he can't draw him forward. Without his wolf, he has no chance of being able to track her.

"Harvey, can you track her?"

Harvey shifts straight away and puts his nose in the air, but he is not as tuned to Leilani's scent as Connor is, there are so many scents around, it is hard for him to pinpoint hers.

Harvey is talented at most things, but the one thing that he fails at is tracking. His skills are average but he makes up for it in all other aspects. This is a tracking job for a professional and as much as Harvey wants to help his alpha, it is not within his ability. Harvey's large beta wolf lowers his neck and shakes his head at his alpha.

Connor chokes as he looks at the road out.

He grabs Evie's hand and pulls her toward his own car. She flinches heavily at the contact but allows him to pull her.

Harvey starts running down the road and Connor gets Evie seated in the passenger seat and he reaches across, buckling up her seatbelt before heading to the drivers door. He sits inside and the car takes off with a spin of the tyres and a spray of loose stones. Connor scrunches his face as he looks beside him. He feels like he is just making this terrible situation worse, but his own happiness is on the line.

"What is your name?"

"It is Evie"

The name clicks into place in his mind and he recalls the massive search for her.

"Well Evie, I am sure that we will be good friends, the best of friends if that is what you want?"

Evie glances over at the man who is gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles are turning white, he is staring out the windscreen into the darkening night. His face is set in hard lines, but she knows how much Leilani trusts this man. She said he was a good man and Evie trusts Leilani's opinion.

"I would like that"
