Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 135

The sun shines down and the gentle sound of the washing fluttering in the wind is all she can hear. She could use the dryer, but oddly enough, this is the only moment she gets to enjoy some alone time in the outdoors.

The only other time she is alone is at night, but it isn't the same, there is no enjoyment in it, it is just cold and lonely.

Lani sighs as she hears the voice once again, knowing that one minute has been reduced down to one second. She places the wet laundry back down in the basket as she walks toward the house. Throwing open the door and walking in to see a little girl with white blonde hair standing on the outside of the railing of the third story and a little boy with his hands on his hips staring at the girl with a frown on his small handsome face. "Mummy, I told her to get down, but she wouldn't listen"

Leilani smiles as she walks over to the boy, ruffling his dark hair as he looks up at her with steel-gray eyes. He is the sensible one of the duo, clear with rules and schedules. "Good boy Ace"

Lani looks up at the girl who is dangling precariously with a cheeky grin on her beautiful face. She is the wild one, the fearless and joyful one. "Elena, get down here right now"

The little girl giggles as she throws herself off the railing. Lani, of course, anticipated the move, catching the little girl in her arms without batting an eyelid. **3 weeks after separation**

Lani breathes in deeply, trying to push down all the fear. Trying to push down all the hurt because it does hurt. It hurts like hell. She thought the pain would fade a little by now. She thought that she might be starting to come to terms with what had happened. Desperately trying to stay away from any news of Connor, making the boys promise to not release any information to him. Of course, she knows that he loves her. Of course, she knows that he will try and get her back.

But how is that fair on Evie? If she was to come in now, she wouldn't have even given them a single chance and that is all the fated pair needs. Just a chance, a chance at love, a chance at the family that both of them need.

Lani didn't request help from her brothers but learned from her own connections about Connor and Evie travelling to the Azure pack together. She knows that they are doing everything they should be doing and that Connor is helping Evie along on her journey. Lani stares at the old brown tiles that line the wall of the service station bathroom. The grout she assumes at one time was white. It's now a disgusting mix of brown with black specks that she suspects is the start of mould. There is nothing pleasant about this place. Maybe she should wait until she gets back, to do this in more sanitary conditions.

But she can't wait a moment longer. She has to know now.

The timer on her phone goes off and she presses her eyes tightly shut as she lifts the little plastic stick in her hand up in front of her face. Her hand is shaking with fear as she opens her eyes, sucking in a deep breath as she sees two pink lines. Pregnant. She is pregnant with Connor's baby.

Her whole world that was already shattered breaks to pieces once more.

What on earth is she meant to do now?

If she found out this news three weeks ago when her future was still bright and Connor was by her side, she would be overjoyed.

Now she's only got two options. Go break up the fated pair before they have even had a chance to make it work or raise a child without a father.

Leilani clutches the stick in her hand, walking and steadily out of the dingy bathroom instead of walking towards Finlay and Madden who are in the car waiting for her. She walks blindly out into the treed area.

Her heart is beating in her throat. Her lungs compressed so heavily that she is struggling to get air.

She had a feeling that this was going to be the result. It has been over three weeks since she left Connor and due to werewolf pregnancies being a lot shorter time span, she is already starting to show, not an obvious sign of pregnancy. It just looks like she has had a big meal, but it is impossible to lie to herself any longer, there has been no big meals since she left, even keeping enough food in her body to sustain her as being a full-time job for Hudson and Arlo.

Levi has had his work cut out through caring for Terrance, as he is still shattered by the news made worse by the fact that they escaped Connor straight away.

Knowing that Connor is hurting with the separation, it is hard on his friend but Leilani knows it is for the best.

Connor will eventually see that it is for the best. The moon goddess wouldn't have fated him to Evie if it wasn't. He can't have two failed fatings because of her. That is not fair on him and it is not fair on Evie.

Going in now telling him that she cannot get him off her mind and that she loves him like crazy. It is not going to help anything. But now there is a baby and that makes all the difference. Leilani feels conflicted like never before, the whole situation is not fair. It's not fair on her. It's not fair and Connor. It's not fair on Evie and it most definitely isn't fair on the baby Connor's baby that Leilani is carrying.

Madden frowns when Leilani still hasn't emerged. She hasn't wanted to leave the house in weeks and now suddenly she wants to go in alone to a service station in the middle of nowhere.

It is rather odd and he keeps having a bad feeling.

"I'm going to go check on her"

Finlay isn't about to sit still while Madden leaves, so they both exit the car, walking to the bathrooms but not even entering before following Leilani scent into the trees.

Leilani just wanders blindly, unsure of anything anymore. Before Connor she was always sure of everything, during Connor she knew exactly what she wanted, but now she is just lost. Madden and Finlay walk on either side of her as soon as they catch up. It didn't take long as she is walking at a snail's pace. If they didn't know better, they would think that she's drunk. "Are you feeling alright? What are you doing out here?"

Leilani frowns. She can't even pretend she is okay with this. She doesn't know what to do, but her brothers can't help her with this. This is all on her.

"Not really, I just need a moment to think. Do you mind if I walk for a while by myself?"

There is an identical frown marring both Madden's and Finlay's faces as they check her over.

"Link us if you need us"

Finally, nodding and walking away. Leilani continues on her walk. Her fingertips brushing against the textured hard surface of the tree trunks, smelling fresh air, feeling the warm gentle breeze.

Everything feels wrong. She can't replace pleasure in all that surrounds her at the moment. Everything just feels so dull and as her thumb strokes the window of the test stick once more she can tell it is only going to become more and more dull.

Leilani doesn't even notice the figure ahead, the tall hulking shadow that steps out from behind the tree where he has been waiting patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity.

"I was wondering when you would be by yourself"

Leilani looks up in shock and sees a very naked, very dishevelled looking Gabriel. He has lost a lot of weight and if she didn't know better she would think that he was a rogue, he is getting that skinny sort of scruffy look that one gets when they are in their wolf form for too long living wild.

His usual golden blonde hair is unusually oily and thick with dirt and mud twigs and leaves are caught in the usual silky tendrils.

Leilani takes a step back. Usually she would be ready to fight. But suddenly she's very aware that she is not her usual self. She has an extra on board. She has been feeling weak, as it is from her lack of food and lack of sleep. The reasoning behind it all is becoming clear, but doesn't mean she's ready to face Gabriel by herself.

Gabriel has a slightly crazed look in his eye as he takes in the woman in front of him. She looks a little bit paler than the last time he saw her and the light in her eyes has dulled slightly, but there is no denying how beautiful she looks. Even that shocked expression, even with that hint of fear at the sight of him.

"I've been following you since the moment you left the house"

Lani links her brothers straight away. Hoping that they haven't gone too far as Gabriel's eyes drift down to the plastic stick that is held tight in Leilani's hands.
