Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 144

Oscar looks at Aubrey before hugging his sister. He tries not to make a big deal of it, but it is impossible not to worry about her leaving this type of life with her wolf's comatose state. Gabriel says that he can still feel her wolf somewhere deep in there, but it is far from showing itself and it's far from being able to protect her or heal her or any of the other bonuses they get from their life.

"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?"

Aubrey rolls her eyes as she looks at her mate.

"And ruin our girls' night with everything you got going on in your pants. I think you're missing the whole point of it"

"You usually like everything that I have got going on in my pants"

"I do, but you do not have the required equipment for a girls night. How are all the other men meant to admire us if you're there, standing guard?"

"You go there to have men admire you?"

"Not to do anything, but it is a good old stroke of the ego to have some sets of eyes on us"

"Isn't my set of eyes enough for you?"

"Nah, you already know what's under my clothes. They aren't quite as invasive as they used to be"

"You want me to have invasive eyes?"

Leilani and the other girls just laugh at the two. They bicker all day every day but they always make for a good time. Whenever they are in the amber pack, they are all business, so soon as they get to the fusion pack they are busy playing around and having fun. The play fight ends in a big kiss and sure and Lani is sure of lots of promises of what is to come when Aubrey gets home.

Finally, the four girls load up in the car as the seven anxious men watch on.

In the car, Lani leans back in the comfortable seat, the soft black leather wrapping around her body as she closes her eyes and tries to push out the person that is always plaguing her mind.

Aubrey is the most upbeat of all of them.

"So where are we going tonight?"

Kelsey is the one to reply.

"Let's go to The Warehouse"

Leilani sighs silently as she looks out the window.

**15 months after separation**

Leilani is finally at the point where she can walk for a long enough distance. The first two months since she woke up from her coma she spent either on bed rest or in a wheelchair in the hopes of being able to draw her wolf forward. Nothing has worked so far. Her wolf is still just being in a stasis.

Trying to rehabilitate her body, even with all the hard work that Gabriel put in. Trying to get her human back to the elite level she was at is still a hard task, but the stronger her human is the stronger her wolf will be.

Lani still spends time with Gabriel, hoping that the fated bond will help. She has been using her and Gabriel's time together to teach him things. Teaching him history, teaching him humility. Teaching him fighting and teaching him business management all the things that he didn't pay that much attention to in school. All the things his father should have made sure he knew before taking the role.

She never thought she would be at the point of spending normal time with Gabriel.

Her body was completely shot by the end of the pregnancy. Every time she died it took a massive toll on her body. Her wolf not being present to heal her and then just a general inactivity of lying in a comatose state for six whole months. Leilani packs up a few things. A few items of clothing. A few photos that she has had printed out and takes the car in the early morning before anyone else is awake.

Leilani drives until she reaches near the stormy pack border. She spent enough time in the stormy pack that she knows how to get through undetected. One bonus to not having her wolf is the fact that Connor won't feel her as she crosses the border. It will just be a nothing to him.

Lani walks gingerly through the pack grounds. She is nowhere near as fast or as agile as she used to be and her legs start to hurt after the distance. But she keeps walking clutching her bag tightly.

She has given up on being with Connor. She is nothing of what she was. Connor doesn't need a wolfless luna when he has an alpha she wolf like Evie.

But Connor does have a right to know about his children. It would be completely unfair for both the kids and Connor to not know each other.

Luckily, Leilani's skills can transfer even without a wolf's help. She did do a large majority of her elite training before her wolf had awoken, so she just had to learn not to rely on her wolf again and be strong as she is. But being pure human is a lot harder than even before her wolf awakened, as there is no inbuilt healing and all the other ways that it will help out before the age of eighteen. Now she has to be cautious.

The boys have kept her well guarded and well protected, but this is something that she has to do by herself. She has to explain how she got into the situation she did. Why she didn't tell him before this moment. She has to take the blame for all of that. Finally, the training grounds coming to view and Leilani breathes a sigh of relief. It is a long way to travel without being detected.

When she approaches the training grounds, she sees Evie and Connor training together. She stands back and smiles slightly. The progress that Evie has made in this time is nothing short of a miracle.

She watches Evie's moves, knowing that Connor is training her with dedication.

The sun is shining down on the two. Evie's hair that looked so lifeless before is now glittering golden strands that catch every bit of the sun. Her skin that was so pasty and sickly is now sun-kissed. Her cheeks are rosey with the exertion of the training. She looks healthy. She looks beautiful. She looks amazing.

Leilani is truly happy for her. Happy that she could get to this stage, but watching Connor and Evie together, it's impossible not to feel a pang of jealousy.

Leilani has none of her wolf abilities so she could not smell that Evie and Connor's scents and not intertwined as a mated couple should have. She cannot see that there is no mark on either of their shoulders, Connor has a t-shirt on and Evie is wearing baggy training clothes.

All she can see is a happy couple. She can't see it for what it truly is.

But she isn't here for that. It is not within her rights to be jealous of the couple because it is not about her. It is about her children. She came here knowing exactly what it would be like, but it doesn't mean it hurts any less to see it.

In the ring, Connor smiles as he looks at Evie.

"You did well. That was a complicated manoeuvre, but here you need to twist your leg just that little bit more to stop yourself sustaining any damage when you hit"

Connor moves forward, grabbing Evie's foot slightly and showing her the correct stance. To the two training, it is nothing but natural, but to the heartbroken woman. It is a loving caress.

Leilani takes a deep breath in and moves closer to the training area. Stopping dead in her tracks as another woman approaches, Leilani hasn't seen her before but it has been a long time since she's been in the stormy pack, so it comes as no surprise that there are new members. "Evie, are you ready to go shopping for baby things?"

Evie looks at Connor because, technically, their training time isn't over yet and Connor is strict when it comes to these things. Connor looks back at Evie and just nods and smiles. "Have fun you two"

Leilani clutches a hand to her chest, trying to steady her frenzied heart. Lani watches as Evie runs happily from the ring and joins the girl. She doesn't notice that the girl in question is showing a small belly.

Evie walks off, arm in arm with Harvey's mate, who is pregnant. Evie knows that that is not on the cards for her, but it doesn't stop her replaceing joy in other people's happiness and to do something as normal as going to shop for baby clothes and all the furniture required. It is something that fifteen months ago she would dare to do. Now she can walk into a shop without being frightened. She can leave the stormy pack without a bunch of bodyguards. Harvey will be going on the trip as well as the silent guard, as he is not as generous as to let his pregnant mate out of his sight off pack lands.

But it is all still progress.

Lani stares at Connor, who just looks up in the sky basking in the sun. From the outside, it looks like he is happy. She doesn't notice that there is no smile on his face, that all he is thinking about is Lani. She doesn't notice that he is consumed by the same level of heartbreak that she is feeling. Lani thinks he is thinking about how perfect his life is, when all that is on his mind is what could have been. He could have been going baby shopping by now. That could have been him. He could be rubbing Lani's pregnant belly and protecting her from all the bad in the world.

Leilani watches transfixed as Connor finally exits the ring, his back is always to her. He walks back to the pack house without a single pause. Leilani retreats back into the safety of the thick trees with tears falling.

Leilani had been so busy thinking about having Connor in the twins' life that she hadn't stopped to think for a second that technically they are Connor's first born children. They are in the lead to be the heirs of the pack. With Evie being pregnant, if she just comes in now with two kids, won't that just be casting Evie's child aside? Isn't that just making massive division between the siblings? Shouldn't the heir technically be from the fated partner? Not just some random wh*re that had a bit of a fling with the alpha outside fate. They had some fun and played some games.

If Lani is to take the twins there now, won't that just cause a rift in Evie's and Connor's blossoming relationship? Won't this just cause tension and problems for the pregnant woman?

If the two are due to be heirs of the pack, then doesn't that mean that she will struggle to be in their life? Doesn't that mean that they have to be in the stormy pack?

Leilani has kept Connor away for so long, for a reason at first, then while she was in a coma, and then she wanted to talk to him face to face. So it has been so long now. The twins are happy and healthy. Shouldn't she just let Evie and Connor have their time and have their heir?

Lani presses her eyes closed. She has no idea what is right anymore and what is wrong. Every path she takes causes hurt.

Maybe she is just better to leave the happy couple as a happy couple.

The moon is still sitting in the sunny sky. Leilani looks up at it with tears in her eyes.

"I don't know what you wanted. Is this the fate you want for me? Is this the fate you want for him? Am I meant to tell him? Or I meant to just allow your design?"
