Tiffany awoke in the luxury suite at Nocturne Nightclub.
She found herself sprawled on a vast bed with a thin blanket draped over her. She was still clutching the sleeve of Vincent's suit jacket, but Vincent himself was nowhere in sight. Her phone was next to her, still showing no signal.
Just as she slipped out of bed, the doorbell chimed.
A waiter stood outside. "Good morning, Ms. Llyod. Mr. Lewis had this sent up for you."
The tray held an elegant breakfast spread and a note in bold, precise handwriting.
It read, "I've gone back to the office. Enjoy the breakfast, and then go home and rest. You can have the day off and no deductions from your pay."
Tiffany then remembered to check the time it was already past nine. She wondered if the bed was just too comfortable, seeing as she'd slept in until so late! After a quick breakfast, she hurried back to the dorm.
While she was in the shower, her phone blared with alarms. It gave her the nagging sense of something important prickling at her memory.
When she finally checked her phone's screen, the realization finally hit her. It was William's birthday!
Their breakup had been so sudden that she'd forgotten to delete the reminder. However, the date now seemed meaningless. It was just another day.
After deleting the reminder, Tiffany grabbed her jacket and canvas bag. She buried herself in the college library for the entire day.
The quiet hum of the space and the focus on her books calmed her mind. By late afternoon, the chaos in her head had dissolved, leaving a sense of ease.
The library was framed by a sprawling green lawn that led to a clear, man-made lake. Willows swayed gently by the water, their leaves shimmering in the soft glow of the setting sun.
A sense of serenity hung in the air, drawing Tiffany toward the lakeside.
With dinner time approaching, the area was nearly deserted. Tiffany climbed a gentle slope, planning to rest on a lakeside bench.
But as she crested the rise, a startling sight made her freeze in place a man and woman were entangled on the grass, locked in a passionate kiss.
Tiffany was shocked by the sight.
Relationships were common in college and she'd been in one- herself. Still, the brazen display made her feel a pang of
awkwardness.
Not wanting to intrude, she turned to leave.
However, the man looked up, his gaze clashing with hers.
Tiffany's stomach lurched upon seeing him.
Jenson? Again? Why did every encounter with him involve a different woman?
Tiffany wanted to leave, but Jenson's eyes pinned her to the spot like nails.
Sensing his distraction, the woman beneath him tapped his shoulder, looking displeased. "Jenson, what are you doing?"
Her voice was a sultry whine, and she wrapped her arms around his neck like vines, pulling him closer.
Their kiss deepened, but Jenson's hand braced against the ground, keeping his eyes locked on Tiffany. Even with the woman clinging and playing with his body, his gaze remained unwavering.
The blatant display rattled Tiffany. She averted her eyes, stood frozen for a moment, then turned to leave.
Her steps were hurried, as though she were fleeing something unseen.
Tiffany stopped near the library. She covered her chest and took a deep breath.
Suddenly, it occurred to her that her reaction had been rather strange After all, she wasn't the one who should be embarrassed. Why had she run away?
She slowed her pace, walking through the long corridor of the library, only to encounter another intimate couple the next second.
This time, the shock was far worse-it was William and Brianna, locked in a passionate kiss.
"William, William..." Brianna's voice drifted toward her.
William pinned her against the wall, deepening their kiss.
A wave of nausea washed over Tiffany. She spun away, only to collide into someone's chest.
