Vincent paused before responding. Kelly's text message hadn't seemed like a mere joke to him.
However, he couldn't fathom why she would want to harm Tiffany and hesitated to jump to conclusions.
"Mr. Lewis, don't you believe me?"
Kelly's voice was deflated and weary, "Even you don't believe me..."
Kelly's pitiful crying tugged at Anna's heartstrings, prompting her to speak up, "Although I don't know the specifics, the police were involved and cleared Kelly. If she had done something wrong, they wouldn't have let her go so easily." Vincent nodded. "I believe this was unintentional, but Brianna can't stay at the company any longer."
He was always meticulous about his employees. He had sensed early on that Brianna was trouble. If Kelly hadn't vouched for her, he would've fired Brianna on her first day.
With this incident, there was no way Vincent would let her stay at Lewis Group.
Kelly agreed, "Sure, I only spoke up for her last time because she seemed pitiful, and Ivy pleaded on her behalf. I didn't realize she was this kind of person. Keeping her is asking for trouble."
After this incident, Kelly loathed Brianna. It was bad enough that Kelly had been foolish, but Brianna had then betrayed her to save herself!
Even if Vincent didn't fire her, Kelly would ensure Ivy found reasons to force her out.
...
Vincent briefly visited the doctor's office to inquire about Anna's condition.
"It's common for elderly people to have stomach problems," the doctor explained, reviewing the lab results.
"It seems she ate something that didn't agree with her. It's nothing serious, but ensure she doesn't eat indiscriminately. Stomach issues, while often minor, can lead to complications if left unchecked." "Alright." Vincent thanked the doctor and returned to the room to ask Kelly about it.
Upon his return, he found that Kelly was absent while Anna mentioned she had stepped out to answer a call.
Vincent approached the bedside."Grandma, the doctor said you shouldn't eat indiscriminately anymore, it could lead to severe gastritis."
Anna looked puzzled. "I haven't eaten anything unusual. I don't eat anything else besides my regular meals."
Anna's diet was very consistent, and aside from occasional fruits, she rarely consumed anything else. The accusation of eating recklessly irked her.
Vincent probed, "Could you think back to yesterday? Did you eat anything out of the ordinary? Something unusual could have upset your stomach."
Anna thought hard and replied,
"Apart from my meals, I didn't eat
anything else... Except last night,
Kelly came back and cooked spaghetti for me. My stomach started hurting about half an hour after eating-"
"Mrs. Lewis Senior." Kelly entered, interrupting their conversation. "What are you discussing?" she asked.
"Oh, nothing," Anna quickly dismissed, clearly not wanting to elaborate.
Vincent pondered for a moment, then said, "I'm considering hiring a nutritionist to manage our meals at home."
Kelly nodded. "That's a good idea. But it might make me even more redundant."
...
With Vincent absent from the office
that day, Tiffany's workload was lighter. During lunch, she
approached Alex to subtly inquire about Anna's condition, but he had no news.
Tiffany pondered whether she should visit Anna in the hospital, Coptheir shared hospital room experience and Vincent's role in saving her life.
It felt like the right thing to do, both ethically and emotionally.
After work, she purchased some imported fruits at the supermarket downstairs, spending a few hundred dollars.
As she left with her bags, she received a call from Teresa. "Hello, Teri."
