Chapter 127

"No thanks. I don't like to drink plain water unless I'm really thirsty," replied Lorraine.

She always carried a thermos filled with either lightly salted water or tea she brewed herself whenever she left the house. Logan retracted his hand, replying, "I'll get you some canned drinks next time."

"It's fine. I always bring my own water bottle whenever I leave the house. Best not to drink too many canned drinks."

Lorraine drove the car as she continued, "That's especially true for the kids! You can give them fruit juice instead."

Logan replied with a hum. He rarely allowed Finnegan and Luna to drink too many sugary drinks, and their diet had always been carefully planned by the family nutritionist to ensure they received balanced nutrition.

"Do you usually eat at the construction site or go back to make lunch?" asked Lorraine.

"I usually eat at the construction site. Everyone orders takeout, but I've gotten sick of it over time. I'd rather go home and make something simple like oatmeal."

Logan had been to the construction site before and learned about what the average worker had for lunch. As such, he had already prepared a flawless reply to Lorraine's question.

"Oatmeal alone won't be able to keep you full for long considering the heavy labor you have to do. I'll cook for you whenever I have time to come to the city. You can go back to your place and reheat it for lunch instead of ordering takeout again.

"If I'm too busy to make it, you can prepare the meals in the morning instead. Just reheat them and you'll have your lunch ready in no time. I do the same whenever I get busy in the orchards. I only cook once, and I get to eat all three meals for the day."

Smiling, Logan replied, "I don't feel like leaving the construction site when it's so hot outside. Ordering takeout is much more convenient, and I can take a rest under shelter."

He was hinting at her to cook for him if she was so worried about him.

Lorraine, however, did not give her response.

The couple returned to Logan's rental apartment in no time as it was quite close to the construction site. As soon as they got inside, Lorraine immediately started to work in the kitchen. Logan offered to help her in the kitchen, but she rejected his offer and insisted on him taking a rest in the living room.

Lorraine did not buy a lot of ingredients, but she still masterfully cooked a hearty dish with what she had. She also saved the tomatoes to go with scrambled eggs for dinner, which were Finnegan's and Luna's favorite.

"Lunch is ready!" shouted Lorraine from inside the kitchen.

Logan immediately headed to the kitchen to help bring the dishes out to the dining table. As the couple enjoyed their lunch together, Lorraine kept placing all the meat onto Logan's plate.

Logan did not even voice his objection about the fatty and oily meat as he appreciated Lorraine's gesture more than anything else.

He then placed some meat onto Lorraine's plate as well. "You should have some too, Lorraine. You don't have to save it for me."

"You're gonna need some meat to restore your energy for work. I'm not doing as much labor as you anyway, so I don't need to eat as much meat."

Logan felt a warm feeling enveloping his heart as he realized that enjoying a simple lunch with his wife was even better than tasting the best delicacies the world had to offer.

Suddenly, Lorraine's phone started ringing.

She put down her cutlery and pulled out her phone. She noticed that the call came from a stranger, but she still answered it right away.

The caller then asked, "Hello, are you Ms. Lorraine Somner?"

"Yes, I am. And you are?"

With a laugh, the caller replied, "My name's Steven Hall, and I'm a fruit wholesaler. I heard that you have several large orchards, and I'm interested in visiting them. When would be a good time for you?" Lorraine's face immediately lit up with joy. "I'm available any time, Mr. Hall! Where are you now?"
