"I'm really sorry about that. No one taught me that since I was young."

While Edward was speechless, Merlin said to him, "You're in no position to make any decision in thisfamily. So, just be quiet." When he was done, he turned to look at Brian. "Brian, come sit next to me!"

Brian responded and brought a chair next to him. Then, he gestured to the bodyguard holding Tres toremove the tape over Tres' mouth.

"So, Tres, was I right?"

Even though Tres looked indignant, he had to succumb at another person's turf. For the past few days,Brain really went all out with him; taking turns with him from day until night so that he couldn't catch anysleep at all. Otherwise, he wouldn't have allowed Brian to have his way.

In the end, he could only face Lara in embarrassment as he stole a look at her and answered in aresigned tone, "Yes, it's Miss Lara who instructed us to do all that!"

Staring at him in disbelief, she couldn't believe that Tres would be so unreliable when he was usuallyso respectful toward her. "When did I instruct you to do any of those things? What's my motive?"

After snorting, Brian then said, "That's because Dr. Maxwell is Eugene's girlfriend, and you would neverlet any chance against Eugene to pass by. Moreover, I think the most important reason that makes youhate her to the core is because she cured Grandpa of his illness! Because Grandpa has recovered, allthe time you spent taking care of him has gone down the drain, causing a delay in your plans to takeover the Nolan Group. That's why you're blaming this on Dr. Maxwell."

Lara chuckled. "Since you're so good at making up stories, why didn't you become a storyteller?"

"We can tell just how ambitious you are through everything happening today which was caused byyou," Brain sneered. "Even though your ultimate aim is to take the Nolan Group as your own, Edwardhas no intention to fight for the position of the president at all, and you prodded him from the back. Itdoesn't matter whether you admit it or not because this makes no difference to the things which youhave done, and it's impossible for you to wriggle out of the situation as the innocent party!"

Hearing that, Edward lifted his eyes at Brian, and he had to admit that Brian hit the nail on the head.Then, he cast a suspicious look at Lara. Although he knew that she was ambitious and admired thistype of woman, he never thought that he would become a part of her plot and be made use of.

How should he describe his feelings?

Maybe it was a disappointment for him. As it turned out, the woman whom he had wholeheartedlybelieved and protected thought of him as nothing different from anyone else in her heart.

Lara panicked more and more, especially when she saw the disappointment in Edward's eyes, she waseven more afraid. If even he didn't speak up for her, she may really not be able to walk out of thisconference room today!

"Don't believe them, hubby. They're making up all these stories just to crucify me. Look at the injurieson Anna Maxwell and Tres. Isn't that because Eugene made them say the things which he wanted?Dear, anyone can doubt me, but not you!"

After listening to her, Edward thought that it made sense. It was true that not many people can tolerateEugene's methods, and it was highly possible that Eugene had fabricated the truth in order to avengewhat happened back then so that Lara would be exiled.

Others may not believe her, but not him! She was the person who shared his bed, and if he didn'tprotect her, it would be as good as watching them hammer her to death!

Coming to this resolution, Edward placed his arm around her shoulders. "I know. Don't worry, I believeyou!"

However, Eugene sniggered at those words. "I'll give you an extra chance, then. People like youdeserve it even if others do you in!"
