Chapter 6
Mother Confessor:
Sparks and molten metal fill my vision. Raising the hammer in a defensive manner. I am taken aback by the fact that whoever is outside is cutting the hatch, instead of blasting it. In my concentration I freeze in place as they expend their efforts. Counting the seconds until they breach my domain. Gritting my teeth, I watch as the arch in the metal follows on it’s course.
My hearts beating like mad, I care not who, or what is on the other side. My eyes trained on the molten arch as it approaches it’s final destination. My anticipation mounting . A loud clang of metal hits my ears as the makeshift entry is now complete. In my adrenalin fueled state I react. The weight of the hammer to bear on it’s target. I feel the impact with my sensitive hands. My severed digit aches from the connection. The sound of metal impacting flesh and bone, is nauseating and satisfying.
Marckus:
Holy shit! I watch the engineer leave the ground several centimeters.
“Drop your weapon, and no harm will come to you! If not, then we will use force”, I loudly order at the gaping metal hole. I catch Captain Graxis glancing at me, as I raise the short sword. The sound of metal on metal as well as the body hits the solid floor with a thud. The light from the makeshift opening is blinding. I can hardly tell what is protruding for the dead engineers body. Cautiously I pace myself to the left of the scarred metal. I glance down at the corpse. Now I see what was embedded in the stiff. A war hammer of unknown origin to myself, though I am sure under further investigation the origin will be known.
“Step ten paces from the door to the center of the room,” I order the inhabitant.
Holding my position, I listen to the footsteps in compliance. Giving myself a few seconds pause, I holster my pistol.
“I am coming in, remain where you are and no one will hurt you”, I address the inhabitant.
“Under who’s authority do I comply”, escapes the hole.
“That is of little concern at the moment, just that I come in defense of you from the Confederation. So just remain calm and no sudden movements, alright”, I exclaim.
Several seconds pass before an acknowledge returns. With sword in hand, I slowly make my way from the wall to the opening. Once in the blinding light I halt, blinking out the brightness as my eyes adjust. Taking up a defensive stance as things start to focus. Training my eyes on the occupant once I can see clearly. What my eyes see is almost beyond my comprehension. That goes without saying that I have seen a fair amount of beings in my many years of service, but this one in particular is surprising. The best thing my mind can come up with is that this poor being is definitely not natural, but more synthetic. I will address my inquiry later. For now my team and I need to get this current situation wrapped up.
