Wait! Werewolves Exist? -
Chapter 13
ELLIE.
I was so grateful for Amber’s help. Usually, my son Adam would be here to help on a Friday night, but he had been away all week and hadn’t made it back in time. We had sent him to visit some of the other packs in the country in the hopes he would replace his mate. No luck so far, unfortunately, but it will happen when it’s meant to.
Mary had clearly raised that girl well, I smiled at the thought. She had jumped in to help out of the goodness of her heart. She was a very good waitress too. Now that it had quietened down, Amber was back at her table, continuing her meal. I turned to my husband, Peter, who was just finishing her next plate. “For a human, that girl doesn’t half eat like a wolf.” I chuckled. He stopped and looked at me “Are you completely sure that she’s just human?” He asked. “What makes you ask that? What else would she be?” I replied “She doesn’t smell like a wolf to me or anything else.” Peter shrugged and said “It’s just a feeling, I can’t explain it.”
I was taking the plate to Amber when the Alpha walked in. I froze for a moment. Him being here probably didn’t mean anything good. He didn’t usually come to the restaurant as he had a private chef. I handed the plate to Becky to deliver and headed over to replace out what he wanted.
AMBER.
Becky set another plate down in front of me. She was giving me a really strange look. “Do I have food on my face?” I asked, my hand instinctively wiping my mouth. “No” she smiled “Is OK if I join you gorgeous a minute?” I nodded, and she took a seat. “It’s just that I didn’t know that humans could eat like this.” There was something about the way she said humans that caught my attention. As if she wasn’t one, but that made no sense. Maybe I imagined it. I must be more tired than I thought. “I’ve always had a big appetite, but something about this place has made it even bigger. Maybe it’s the clean air.” I grinned. “Or maybe it’s just that the food is so good.” She laughed and told me “My dad will love hearing that.” I looked at her quizzically, and she said “Peter, the chef, he’s my dad. Ellie is my mum. This is a family business.” We sat and chatted for a few more minutes before a table asked for the bill, and she headed off to get it, taking my now empty plate with her.
I looked up and noticed the man stood talking to Ellie. He was easily the best-looking man I had ever seen. I had always thought that way about Chris. He had always stood out in a crowd. This guy made Chris look average. His black hair, which was longer on top, was tied neatly in a little bun. His tanned skin made his steely blue eyes stand out. My eyes wandered down to his broad shoulders and muscular frame, which were shown off perfectly by his tailored, charcoal grey shirt. He turned and looked in my direction suddenly, and I quickly looked down, blushing. I hope he didn’t realise I was staring at him.
ALPHA JASON STONE.
I had spent the day trying to replace this f*****g woman, and annoyingly I was still no closer to knowing who she is. Mike from the grocery store had told me that he’d served a stranger this morning, but all he could tell me was that she had bought cleaning supplies. Sam hadn’t been anymore help. I was getting pissed off with the whole situation. The Alpha shouldn’t be wandering around looking for some random f*****g human, I have much more important things to do. I was ready to give up and start fresh tomorrow.
One of the pack warriors Luke Watson almost bumped right into me. He was a little tipsy and not paying attention to where he was walking. “Whoah. Watch where you’re going.” I growled at him. “Alpha Stone, s**t I’m sorry. I didn’t see you.” He apologised, swallowing nervously and running his hand through his short dark blonde hair. Ben Rodgers one of his fellow warriors cut in “Its our fault Alpha, we were winding him up about him practically drooling over the new waitress at Ellie and Peters. Like shot him a look, then looked back at me a little embarrassed “I was not drooling, I just said that she’s cute, you know especially for a human. They haven’t shut up since.” I was about to walk away, I had no interest in their childish behaviour. Something he said caught my attention. “What new waitress” “I didn’t catch her name.” Ben replied. I looked at him sternly. “Luke said she’s human. Is that right?” Ben thought for a moment before responding. “To be honest I’m not really sure. There was something about her and her scent was off but she definitely didn’t smell like a wolf.” Ben’s sense of smell was fantastic, he was our best tracker, so his opinion was one I trusted. I waved them on their way and headed to the restaurant.
Ellie looked surprised to see me. “Alpha Stone” she bowed her head respectfully “What can I do for you? Did you want a table?” I shook my head “I am here on pack business. Its come to my attention that we have a new arrival in town, and that she is working here. The proper channels were not gone through. So I have to ask, and I am asking politely as you and Peter are respected members of the pack. Did you bring an outsider into Lakeside and employe her, without permission of your Alpha? I would also like to know who and what she is?” my voice was steady but firm. Ellie looked up at me, her brown eyes big and full of panic. “No Alpha. I mean yes there is a new girl in town, and yes she did help us out a little bit tonight. However I only met her for the first time this morning. She came in for breakfast and directions. I had no idea that you hadn’t given permission for her to be here. I swear. As far as I know Amber is human.” I raised my hand to stop her. “I believe you Ellie, but now I need some information from you. Where did she ask for directions to? Do you know why she is here?” She sighed in relief “Thank you Alpha. From what I have gathered Amber is the adopted daughter of an ex pack member. Mary James who left around eighteen years ago. Amber inherited the house here when Mary recently passed away, and decided to move in. I gave her directions to Bluebell cottage, Mary’s old house. I’m sure she didn’t mean any disrespect Alpha. She is a lovely girl, maybe she doesn’t know how things are done. She’s right over there. You can see for yourself.” I looked in the direction that Ellie has gestured to and saw her. Luke was right. I had never seen a human that attractive before.
