Chapter 104 Divorce Him, You Name the Price.
Without turning around, I could recognize Evelyn's voice.
Christopher discreetly withdrew his arm. "What are you doing here?"
"My father brought me," Evelyn said in a soft tone. "He said I should get familiar with these people since I'll be helping you manage your family in the future."
I felt a surge of sarcasm before I heard Christopher respond coldly, Then go replace him. Why are you following me?"
"Why? Are you that annoyed with me now?" Evelyn feigned irritation before attempting to appease him. "If it's about the photos from a few days ago, I'm over it. Why are you still upset? Besides, it wasn't me who had the extramarital
affair."
"Evelyn Valence!" Christopher snapped, seemingly desperate to shake her off.
Just then, Charlie appeared with the air of paternal authority, instructing, "I ran into some friends and went to say hello. Evelyn's new to these events. Look after her, make sure she's not taken advantage of." I hurried away before hearing Christopher's response. It was irrelevant. He would have to oblige, as he always did. He likely didn't even notice that this was also my first foray into such high society. Just as I reached the door, Cecil, having just finished greeting a guest, approached me. His gaze flicked to my bare legs, and he smiled warmly. "Come on, I'll take you to the banquet hall. It's cold out here." As we stepped onto the mansion's steps, Charlotte, looking displeased, began, "So, you're the woman he's so hung up on. You do look quite fetching. No wonder my son, who's been laying low for so many years, couldn't resist."
Charlotte had mistaken me for the woman Cecil fancied. I frowned, about to clarify, but Cecil interjected sharply. "If you have something to say, say it to me. Don't take it out on others." Charlotte adjusted her fur coat, raising an eyebrow. "Why are you so tense? I just made one comment and you're already upset?
Though she wasn't nice, it was a step up from the day she hit Cecil at the altar. That day, she had looked down on him as if he were a dog. Today, it was clear she was more restrained. Cecil remained calm. "She's just a friend."
"Just a friend?" Charlotte's skepticism was palpable.
I sighed, "Mrs. Brown, we really are just friends." To convince her, I pointed to Christopher, who was being pestered by Evelyn. I have a husband."
Charlotte looked me up and down, then asked, "You're the wife Christopher's been secretly married to for three years?"

"If you don't believe me, ask him," I replied coolly, then turned to Cecil, rubbing my hands together. "Cecil, let's go. inside. It's freezing."
Behind me," Charlotte muttered, "Open relationship?"
Unable to suppress a wry laugh, 1 followed Cecil into the hall. Cecil glanced over at me. "Don't mind her."
"It's fine," I shook my head. "What did you do? She seems completely different from the other day."
"Want to know?" he asked.,
"Yeah, I admitted. After all, I had always thought of Cecil as a very gentle person. I hadn't expected him to make Charlotte so wary in such a short time.
Cecils
Cecils lips curved into a smile. "I found evidence linking her to my mother's death years ago."
"What?" I was stunned. "After all these years, you managed to replace evidence?"
Cecil's eyes flickered slightly as he looked ahead. "Yes."
I asked, "Then why not call the police?"
"Fool, Cecil chuckled softly. "Do you think the person celebrating his 80th birthday today would agree? Sometimes, using a different approach can achieve the desired result." His words were somewhat enigmatic. I looked at Cecil, surprise etched across my face, and then smiled. "Cecil, it feels like you're a different person than the one I used to know," "Why?" Cecil seemed taken aback and looked at me. "Or do you mean you don't like me this way?"
"Not at all!" I quickly denied it, showering him with praise. "I think you're even more impressive and smart than the Cecil I knew before. I really admire how thorough you are." People like Cecil, and me, had no one to rely on but ourselves, especially when his family was a den of wolves. Being thorough was the only way to survive.
For a moment, Cecil seemed stunned, his eyes brightening slightly. "Really?"
"Absolutely," I nodded earnestly.
Perhaps it was my imagination, but Cecil seemed to let out a silent sigh of relief, visibly relaxing, as if my question had made him very anxious.
Once inside the banquet hall, I realized that today's guests included not only the high society of Jacquar but also some unfamiljar faces.
Cecil went to the buffet table to get me some food, uttering, "I need to step out for a bit. You rest here, and call me if
you need anything."
"Okay," I smiled slightly, accepting the plate of food.

In the banquet hall, amidst the clinking of glasses, I, a person with low presence, could enjoy some peace. After enjoying some food, I got up to use the restroom. When I came qut, I saw Evelyn being blocked by a wealthy socialite named Kimberly Harris.
It seemed everyone had their nemesis. I decided to stand at the corner and avoid unnecessary drama.
Kimberly, dressed in an outfit worth at least seven figures, looked to be in her early twenties. Her exquisite face radiated confidence. She asked, "Miss, you're the wife Christopher has kept in the shadows for over three years, right?"
Her words hit a nerve. Unexpectedly, Evelyn, without a moment's thought, proudly lifted her chin. "Yes, that's me. So what?"
Evelyn probably hadn't attended many such events before. She was meticulously dressed, flaunting a deep V-neck dress that highlighted her cleavage and a high slit that revealed her legs. Too high-key for someone else' birthday.
"Divorce him," Kimberly commanded.
Evelyn's eyes widened. "What did you say?"
"I said, divorce him," Kimberly repeated, crossing her arms and handing over a check. "Name your price."
Quite bold, I would give her that. I never thought that being Mrs. Valence would one day lead to this-having a woman approach me with a blank check to make me leave. Although, at this moment, it was a fake.
Evelyn, usually quick to argue, surprisingly showed a look of confusion and a sense of crisis. "What do you mean? Do you have feelings for Christopher?"
Kimberly considered for a moment, then replied with indifferent confidence, "You could say that. In any case, I must have him."
Evelyn gritted her teeth, spitting out, "What kind of parents raised you to interfere in someone else's family so brazenly and claim you must have him? Do you have no shame?"
I found the scene incredibly amusing and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
