When she left, He went crazy

Chapter 139: Hasn't She Caused Me Enough Trouble Already?

In the steadily oxygen-deprived haze, my consciousness began to fray at the edges. The discomfort was unbearable, a creeping anguish that gnawed at every fiber of my being.

In that moment of torment, the only person I could think of was Christopher. Despite my previous resolve to distance myself from him, now, in this dire situation, he was my sole hope.

Save me.

Christopher, you must be coming soon. Say

Just as my vision started to blur completely, a basin of ice-cold water was dumped over my head. The frigid shock jolted me partly back to my senses, the cold wind in the basement amplifying the chill. I shivered uncontrollably as the water snaked down my cheeks, into my neck, and seeped through my collar, the cold penetrating to my very bones.

I lifted my eyes and saw that Kimberly was also tied to a pillar nearby. Her face bore two distinct handprints, and her once pristine clothes were now dirty and torn, rendering her thoroughly disheveled.

Yet, even in such a state, Kimberly stood on a chair, exuding a calmi, almost regal composure.

Despite my weakening state, I couldn't help but muster a feeble sneer. "Looks like you're quite the actress too."

Kimberly responded with unwavering confidence, "Does it matter? You just need to know who he will choose."

At that very instant, the distinct sound of a car engine rumbled from outside. Kimberly kicked away the chair beneath her feet, her eyes alight with arrogance. "Hope Royston, don't blame me. Blame yourself for being so easy to manipulate, for your lowly status."

A familiar figure emerged from the light, tall and elegant, still dressed in the same handcrafted suit he wore that morning. Christopher's eyes locked onto mine, his pupils narrowing slightly before he was intercepted just a few feet away.

Noah, with a casual smirk, lit a cigar. "Mr. Valence, it's really not easy to meet.

Christopher's face darkened as he fixed Noah with an icy glare. "Release them."

Reclining into a chair, Noah said, "I had initially hoped to discuss business with you through Mrs. Valence. But then my men informed me that this Harris family lady also has ties to you. Caught in a dilemma, I decided to bring both."

"Name your conditions, Christopher demanded, impatience lacing his voice.

Noah chuckled deeply. "I'm not interested in conditions right now. I simply want to see who Mr. Valence chooses to

save."

Christopher's eyes narrowed dangerously. "What's your game?"

Soundlessly, a gun was handed to Christopher. Noah's voice took on a cruel edge. "There's just one bullet left in this gun. Mr. Valence, you decide who gets it. The rest is up to fate."

A chilling realization dawned: the gun could be almed at me or at Kimberly.

Christopher's jaw clenched, his expression unreadable from my distance.

I held my breath, waiting.

His tone was glacial, almost lethal. "Are you serious?"

Noah maintained his nonchalant demeanor. "Mr. Valence, can anyone truly love two women at the same time? Killing one insignificant person-what's the harm?"

Christopher gripped the gun, but remained motionless.

Suddenly, Noah grabbed a gun from one of his men, swinging it from me to Kimberly and back again.

My heart thundered painfully in my chest.

No one was unafraid of death. And I was no exception.

Kimberly's desperate plea echoed in the room, "Christopher, save me!"

"Still haven't decided?" Noah skillfully loaded the gun, his voice laced with mockery. "Tll count to three. If Mr. Valence hasn't decided, I'll have to make the decision for you! Three..." Christopher's demeanor grew even darker as he slowly raised the gun, aiming it directly at Kimberly. She shook her head frantically. "No, Christopher, please, no."

His expression remained impassive, but as our gazes briefly intersected, I caught a glimpse of profound restraint in his

eyes.

Noah continued his ominous countdown. "Two..."

With a clenched jaw, Christopher gave a quick, practiced flick of his wrist, loading the gun single-handedly with a chilling precision.

Noah's voice hit the final note. "One..."

In the fraction of a second before the gunshot, Christopher's hand pivoted, and he pulled the trigger, aiming at me with unwavering accuracy.

I was completely stunned, a paralyzing cold seeping through my entire being.

The realization struck painfully: Christopher had chosen to sacrifice me again. Even if that meant condemning me to

death.

Despair took hold, spreading through every inch of my body. I stared blankly in Christopher's direction, my vision blurring as shock overwhelmed me. Despite the absence of the expected pain, a part of me felt brutally shattered.

His words echoed mockingly in my mind:

"It was my choice."

I'm working hard to win you back."

this last step."

Tll take the next ninety-nine steps; you just wait here; don't back out of this

"Hope Royston, I'm serious, and I will make amends. I don't want to lose you."

"Now I have ulterior motives."

"No matter what happens, you have to trust me."

Every promise, every declaration of love felt hollow, a cruel joke unraveling in the cold reality of the moment.

It was all a facade.

Christopher's deep affection for me was never worth a penny.

It was laughable that I naively hoped Christopher would choose to save me.

Christopher would never choose me.

Never.

Noah laughed once more, the sound grating. "Mr. Valence, don't be so uptight. It was just a prank. One is a Harris family heiress, the other still your wife for the moment-how could I dare harm them?"

He continued, “But I must say, I didn't expect even Mr. Valence to fall prey to the age-old adage of cherishing the new and discarding the old!"

Christopher's blue eyes were covered with a thin layer of icy mist. "Can you let them go now?"

"Since you chose Ms. Harris, of course, you can take her away. Please go ahead!" Noah said with a flourish.

Christopher moved forward slowly, a subtle struggle evident in his demeanor, perceptible only to those who knew him

well.

The man who told me to trust him this morning didn't even spare me a glance me now.

In front of me, Christopher loosened the ropes binding Kimberly and lifted her into his arms.

"Christopher, I was so scared. You're so amazing-I wouldn't have known what to do if you hadn't come!" Kimberly's voice was trembling with fake fear.

Noah, pushing the boundaries, inquired, "Mr. Valence, what about Mrs. Valence? If you insist on taking both, it's not impossible. We can both make some concessions on the West Side project. You just need to give up an extra twenty

percent."

Christopher's sneer was palpable, as though he had just heard the most ludicrous joke. "Noah Gomez. What makes you think I would give up such a huge profit for a woman who is about to become my ex- wife? Hasn't she caused me

enough trouble already?"

His last words, as clear as they were low, cut through me like a knife, twisting painfully. I glanced up at Christopher, his faint smile as if in casual conversation.

The sourness surged from my heart to my nose, overwhelming me instantly.
