Chapter 47
Rhett didn’t offer an explanation, just shot York a look and commanded, “Get someone on it.”
His gaze landed on Summer’s cheek, and Rhett turned sour. “Who hit you?”
Summer hung his head, silent.
Garner sneered. “What do you mean, Mr. FitzGerald? Aren’t you the type to trample people underfoot at will?”
Summer looked up at Rhett, with his eyes rimmed red.
Suddenly, his nose felt warm, and blood started to flow again.
Scared, Summer covered his nose with his hand, crouched down, and turned away, not wanting
to scare Rhett.
“Summer.” Garner dropped the stick he was holding and quickly grabbed a tissue to clean. Summer’s nose, but his hand was injured. He clumsily smeared blood everywhere.
York wanted to rush over to help, but Rhett beat him to it, taking a tissue to clean Summer’s
nose.
“To the hospital” Seeing Summer’s nosebleed wouldn’t stop, Rhett frowned and spoke up. anxiety in his voice.
“Give me back my kid.” Garner eyed Rhett warily, unsure of his intentions. Was he playing philanthropist?
“Mr. Garner, we’re just looking out for Summer’s best interest. You’d better come with us to the hospital, now’s not the time to be stubborn,” York chimed in, opening the car door for Rhett.
Garner hesitated for a moment, dusted himself off, and got into Rhett’s car.
York stole a glance at Rhett in the rearview mirror, sensing something wasn’t quite right… Plus, York had this weird feeling that Summer and Rhett looked alike.
Could it be, six years ago…
Startled by his thoughts, York quickly shook his head. No, Ferris was the schemer back then, he said it was Hertha who had admitted it, even able to recount details of that night, including the room number.
No girl would joke about her reputation.
Besides, if the person that night had been Kristin, how could she not recognize Rhett?
In Silvergrove City, was there any woman who didn’t know Mr. FitzGerald?
Shaking his head, York figured he was probably overthinking it. Maybe Mr. FitzGerald just genuinely liked Summer.

“Daddy…” On the way, Summer sat quietly, his nose stuffed with tissues, softly calling out.
Rhett gently rubbed Summer’s head. “Don’t be scared, we’re almost at the hospital.”
Summer looked at Rhett with teary eyes. “Daddy, where’s Mommy?”
“Your mommy’s gone to buy you a toy, and she’ll be back soon.” Rhett signaled York to quickly replace Kristin.
York nodded.
Summer had bled a lot from his nose. With the beating and shock, he felt dizzy.
Garner looked back at Summer, concerned, and asked quietly, “Mr. FitzGerald… do you have any food in the car? Summer gets hypoglycemic…”
In his desperation, Garner had realized he’d hastily jumped into the car and forgotten to bring snacks for Summer – something he wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t for his dire need for Rhett’s help.
Rhett was taken aback for a moment. He had a thing for cleanliness, so he normally wouldn’t keep anything in the car.
York, equally anxious, shook his head. “Mr. FitzGerald, there’s nothing.”
“Keep some snacks in the car from now on,” Rhett said with a frown.
For the past few days, York had been so spooked by Rhett he didn’t dare to talk back and just nodded repeatedly.
At the hospital, Rhett held Summer for the examination, while Garner was dragged away by the doctor to get his hand treated and X–rayed.
“The medical fees and the check–up costs for Summer? Sir, they have been paid already.” When Garner went to pay, he was told it had already been taken care of.
Garner frowned, unclear about Rhett’s intentions.
Rhett was also a member of the FitzGerald family.
The ones who almost ruined his family were the FitzGerald family and the Turner family.
Garner couldn’t have a good impression of anyone from the FitzGerald family, yet Rhett, such a powerful figure, had no reason to take advantage of Summer, and his concern for her seemed genuine.
“How much was the total cost?” Garner asked quietly.
The receptionist glanced at the record. “Sir, the total for the check–up and medical fees is six thousand seven hundred.”
Garner was stunned for a moment… He didn’t have that much money to repay Rhett right now.
“Mr. Collins!” York, having bought snacks for Summer, approached with a serious expression.
Chapter 47
“About Summer’s condition, we need to talk. The tests have revealed hemolytic anemia. Are you aware of this?”
Garner nodded.
“Could it be genetic? Who’s the father?” Rhett had sought a specialist consultation, and the expert recommended that the biological father should cooperate to determine the specific cause and then decide if a heterologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant would be
necessary.
“Heh… I’d like to know who that bastard is.” Garner spoke under his breath.
York looked at Garner in shock. Kristin couldn’t be joking about Summer’s condition, which required the father’s cooperation.
Could it be that Kristin didn’t know who Summer’s father was?
