"Complexion?" Sherilyn lifted a hand to touch her face, trying to steady her nerves, recalling the secret kiss... She flashed a wry smile, "Must be just the sleep rubbing off." Bad complexion from just waking up? Gilbert's gaze dropped, his brow furrowing in frustration. It was clear Sherilyn didn't want to share, didn't want him meddling in her affairs. "Sleep poorly?" Gilbert's lips twisted into a bitter smile, "I'm finishing up early today. You should head back and get some rest."

"Sure," Sherilyn nodded with a smile, "Sounds good."

She grabbed her phone and picked up her backpack from the couch, "Jenna's still asleep, might need some soothing when she wakes."

"Don't worry."

"Then I'll be off..." "Alright."

Sherilyn exited, leaving Gilbert with a furrowed brow. Was it his imagination? Why did it feel like she was avoiding him? These past days, she hadn't been acting this way towards him. Could it be... Gilbert pressed his lips together, recalling the kiss. Had Sherilyn been awake?

Heading back to Sunset Ridge, Sherilyn's mind was racing. What should she do? Right! Her big brother! He had always said, if she ever ran into trouble, she should come to him. Just a few days ago, when he and James visited Jenna, he had said the same. Sherilyn didn't want to bother him unless absolutely necessary. But she knew, now was one of those times. With her own capabilities, she couldn't handle this crisis!

Deciding her next move, Sherilyn pulled over and dialed Francis's number on her phone.

[The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.]

What's going on? Bad signal? Sherilyn tried a few more times, but to no avail. Maybe big brother was busy. She'd try again later.

With a heavy heart, she returned to Sunset Ridge. Later, she attempted to reach Francis again, but with no success. It wasn't like her big brother to intentionally ignore her calls. en Ebookex

Unable to get through for so long, could it be that Francis was out of Sunhaven? He often traveled for work; it was a strong possibility.

Gilbert might know something.

Should she ask?

As she reached for her phone, she remembered that kiss on the couch... If she asked, he'd surely press her on why she needed to see her brother.

"No way..." Sherilyn closed her eyes,

setting the phone back down. It was

too late tonight, well past office hours. First thing tomorrow, she'd go to the Johnson Group to inquire.

That night, Sherilyn was destined for a sleepless night.

The next day, she left Sunset Ridge early for the Johnson Group. On her way, she texted Gilbert.

[I'll be a bit late today, you go ahead. The caregiver is there, I won't be too late.]

Gilbert replied quickly.

[Okay, got it.]

On his end, Gilbert held his phone, his eyebrows knit together. Sherilyn was indeed hiding something. But what exactly?

Meanwhile, Sherilyn arrived at the Johnson Group. Without an access card, she went straight to the reception desk in the lobby. "Hi, how can I help you?"

"Hello," Sherilyn got straight to the point, "I'm here to see Mr. Johnson."

"I know, without an appointment, it's impossible to see him. Could you please call the executive office for me? My name is Sherilyn; he'll see me once he hears my name." "Please hold on a moment."

The receptionist dialed the executive office. Being just a receptionist, she was unaware of Mr. Johnson's whereabouts and had to call the executive office to replace out the situation.
