The corner of his mouth quirked up, unable to suppress the underlying mischief.

"If he's threatening you, he should know better than to mess with someone under Nine Harrison's protection."

Sherilyn's heart skipped a beat.

She understood what Gilbert was doing. He was not only solving her problem but also sending a warning to that person. If that person had any sense, they'd back off now. With that, it seemed the matter was resolved.

The room suddenly fell silent.

The tension that had been coiling in her mind relaxed instantly.

Sherilyn fluttered her eyelashes, pursed her lips, and after a moment, spoke softly, "...Thank you."

"You're welcome."

Gilbert nodded, his smile faint. "Don't mention it."

He looked down at her, his gaze so intense it seemed almost tangible.

Sherilyn felt a flutter of nerves and awkwardly turned her face away to avoid his gaze.

Gilbert's smile faltered for a moment. "I'll go check on Jenna."

As he stepped inside, Rebecca White rushed over to Sherilyn, phone in hand.

"Sherilyn, look!"

Thanks to Gilbert's post, public opinion had done a complete 180.

"Let the dust settle... I'm over the drama..."

"Where are the haters now? Why so silent?"

"How can anyone dislike Mr. Harrison? Such a shame."

"I was really rooting for them as a couple."

Followed by numerous technical analyses proving the photo was doctored!

"Can whoever photoshopped this just stop?"

"Did Sherilyn step on someone's toes?"

"Is dancing at Neon Nights Bar a crime now? Sherilyn and Mr. Harrison are just a normal couple, okay?"

"Everyone should back off, you might disturb Sherilyn. Mr. Harrison wouldn't like that!"

"Oh my! What is this lovestruck, strong, tragic hero vibe from Mr. Harrison?"

"Sob! Can my OTP get a happy ending?"

The wonder of public opinion:

overnight!

"Ah..." Rebecca White sighed, "Finally, it's over... It was like a rollercoaster... like a dream."

"Yeah."

Sherilyn's eyes were downcast, murmuring, "...like a dream."

...

A few days later, Jenna was napping in the next room.

Sherilyn woke up before her and went to the outer room.

As she was tying up her long hair, a knock came at the door.

Not wanting to wake Jenna, Sherilyn went to answer it. Outside stood Edgar, whom she hadn't seen for days. "Edgar." Sherilyn smiled gently, "You're back? Come in..." She stepped aside to let him in.

"Yeah." Edgar nodded slightly and sat down on the couch.

Sherilyn followed, "Want something to drink? Water or soda?" "No need."

Edgar shook his head, cutting her off, "Sherilyn, sit. I've got something to say."

"Oh, okay." Sherilyn replied with a smile, sitting down. "What's up? You can tell me."

Sherilyn paused, then laughed softly, "Why apologize? It's all sorted now..."

"I know."

Edgar's smile was bitter, his eyes clouded with complexity.

"But when you needed someone the most, I wasn't there..." Sherilyn was taken aback, "You shouldn't say that..." "Let me finish."

Edgar lowered his voice, self-mockery lacing his words.

"I always thought that we didn't work out because of my parents, but

"Now I realize, the problem was me."
