Trey sat there quietly holding Kailee. “I promise everything will be known to you one day. I only have my certainty and suspicion but no hard evidence or I would tell you.”

“That is fair. I am in the same situation. I have a lot of pieces and can almost see the picture. But with the pieces that are missing I can’t go making accusations without proof.”

Trey smiled. “You are very clever. I had thought that you were more naïve.”

Kailee smiled. “So how did you already know me? You already knew you were going to take me from my uncle… when did you decide this?”

Trey chuckled. “The moment I laid my eyes on you I knew I would be taking you. I just had to bide my time and look for the best way. The land opportunity was perfect. Otherwise… well my other plan would have ruined everything. So it was a good thing the opportunity came when it did. I couldn’t wait much longer.”

“You are so confusing.” Kailee could not help but laugh at him. It didn’t make any sense. He acted like she was someone so dear to him that he couldn’t handle going without her.

“There is a lot going on that you don’t know about. But soon you will know everything, and it will all make sense. I promise.” Trey leaned down and tenderly kissed the top of her head.

“Well, I can’t wait until I can start seeing you without your mask. It will be nice to be able to recognize my husband’s face.” Kailee listened as her stomach quietly grumbled announcing that it was hungry. She bit her bottom l*p and tucked her head into him. She felt his chest move as he quietly laughed.

“Are you getting hungry?”

“No, I’m okay.” Kailee said in his chest. She was enjoying this nice quiet moment they were having. And she didn’t want it to end already.

“Come on. It probably is lunch time now. Let’s go get something to eat.” Trey went to scoot up but she pushed back into him.

“No, I don’t want to go yet.” Kailee pouted. “Besides, what about you? You can’t eat with your mask on.”

“I have a top half-face mask that I can wear. How about I use that so we can have lunch together?” Trey didn’t let her respond and this time just lifted her body into his as he stood up. He let her body slide down in front of him allowing her feet to slowly replace the floor. “We can’t keep you in the dark all day.”

“I didn’t mind. It was nice that we were able to talk like this.” It was more than nice though. It was becoming comfortable. His warmth and scent were starting to take on another existence to her. Her body was recognizing them and claiming them as her own. She was feeling herself being pulled towards him by an invisible thread. It kept tugging her and binding her to Trey. She didn’t feel it all the time but in certain moments when they were close. Same thing with smelling his scent. It wasn’t until she had him in her arms that she could catch a faint scent of it but then it would start growing stronger. Little by little she felt like her life was being weaved together with his. Almost as if they were no longer two different beings but together, they made one. And if she was being honest, while it scared her, she liked it.

Kailee had enjoyed lunch and seeing Trey with his new mask on. Though it didn’t give her much to go on and he sat at the opposite end of the table. Reggie joined them eating and then again on their walk outside.

They were walking through the flower garden and talking about the upcoming activities. Trey had put his full face mask back on and Kailee was sure he was baking in the sun.

“The Monog summer festival will be starting soon.” Reggie said with a wide smile.

“I have not been to one of the kingdom’s festivals since I was a child. I always watched the villagers light the big torches from the attic window though.” Kailee walked a bit ahead of the two men and turned around walking backwards with a smile. “It will be nice to actually get to celebrate too.”

“It is an important festival. It marks the kingdom of Monog unifying the lands into what they are today. It helps us feel connected. Especially being all the way out here in this far outskirt village.” Reggie grabbed a pebble off the path and tossed it in the distance.

“Does it though?” Kailee tilted her head to the side and looked at the two men. “It feels like this place is cut off from the rest of the world. A village of normal humans. The rest of the world is very different from here…” Kailee’s voice trailed off as an icy feeling crept into her chest.

Something sinister flickered. A black energy sputtered, and she spun around quickly. Her gaze set in the direction of where her old manor was. The one that had burned down years and years ago. Something from that direction was taunting her. It was like it was teasing her existence next to it.

She closed her eyes and flashes of dark visions popped in her head like bursts of lightning. A dark shadow of black clouds, that seemed to be sizing her up. Within the darkness of the shadows was another dark form. A creature wrapped in a tar-like substance. It was still hard to make out, but it was there. The creature had white eyes and blinding white fangs.

From deep within the shadows a deadly low snarl crept out. A smokey hand outstretched towards her.

“This time… you won’t be able to stop me.” His voice hissed.

Kailee stared back at this creature. It was trying to scare her. It was trying to intimidate her. That led to only one logical conclusion… It was afraid of her.

She reached her mind out to the creature. “Who are you? What do you want?”

“B***d. B***d. B***d. B***d. B***d. B***d.” His voice repeated with a creepy raspy air to it. “I want b***d.”

An orange light crashed in front of her and the vision was gone. She opened her eyes back up to see Sparks hovering in front of her with his wings outstretched widely. As if he was blocking her and shielding her.

Kailee! Get back. Sparks screamed out loudly. RUN!

“I don’t understand? Run from what?” Kailee said frantically. Trey was at her side along with Reggie. Sparks was flapping frantically and was in distress. Then they heard a sound hiss from behind them. They turned around and saw something crawling out from the shadows.

RUN Kailee! Sparks flew between them and the creature. His flames outstretched around him as he defiantly blocked the creature.

“What the hell is a shadow orc doing here?!” Reggie growled as he took a protective stance next to the phoenix.

It’s eyes pinned on Kailee and it tilted its head to the side. It made a loud clicking sound as it bared its teeth. It straightened its murky dark green body into a tall upright position. It’s skin looked hard and callused and it’s arms were bulging with its strength. Dark b***d vessels popped up overs his muscles and it shifted its body side to side. He had two off white large tusks that raised up from his mouth and his black beads for eyes were locked onto Kailee. Sparks screeched again loudly and turned to look at Kailee. He was desperate for her to leave.

Trey had stayed calm and almost disinterested. There was an unreadable look in his eyes as he stared back at the creature. He reached his arm out and pulled Kailee into his waist. “You’ve got this Reggie? I’m going to get her back inside away from this. She doesn’t need to see it.”

Reggie nodded his head. “Get her away from here. I’ll give our dear guest a proper welcome.” He then turned his attention to the shadow orc. “How dare you stand there defiantly in my presence , you lowly insect. You’ve come for the girl? Well then… come and get her.” Reggie smirked as he goaded the creature to his death.

Trey lifted Kailee and carried her away calmly. He carried her back into the castle and then lowered her into a chair in the inner library. He knelt down in front of her and brushed his hand through her brown caramel hair. He looked into her confused eyes. “Are you okay? What happened back there?”

“What about Reggie? We just left him there with that thing.” Kailee frowned and glanced up at the door.

Trey chuckled. “Reggie will be just fine. It is you I’m concerned about.”

“That thing came for me…” She wondered if whatever she saw in her vision was connected to the creature. The creature that wanted b***d.

“Kailee what happened out there? Before the shadow orc showed up?” Trey’s low tones were calm and soothing as he held onto her hand.

The door to the library opened up and Reggie came in with a frantic Sparks flying in behind him. “I guess he wanted to make sure you were okay.”

She looked at Reggie who looked completely untouched and was back so quickly. She wanted to ask him how he was but Sparks started yelling loudly at her. His loud squawking and flapping of his wings showed how agitated he was.

Don’t communicate with it! Ignore its presence. Sparks squawked loudly.

Kailee scoffed and folded her arms defiantly over her chest. “You see what happens when you keep secrets from me? You can’t not tell me anything and then expect me to know what I am supposed to do. And here you are giving me orders and still telling me nothing. YOU owe me an explanation.”

Sparks flapped his wings and little ashes and embers flowed around him. But he remained quiet.

“What does that thing want?” Kailee asked as she stared at the fiery bird.

Did it talk to you? Sparks asked seeing her nod her head. What did he say? He held still and leaned his head to the side to stare at her with one eye.

“That…” Kailee stopped for a moment. She looked at Sparks who nodded his head for her to continue. “He wanted b***d.”

Sparks stilled and went eerily quiet for a moment. He then tilted his head to the side to the two men and then back to her. He watched her nod her head for him to say something. You are going to have to wake soon. We have to prevent him from coming into existence. He is being revived and it must be stopped. Your uncle is mining sivium.

“Sivium?” Kailee tilted her head in confusion.

Sivium is a rare metal. It is a metal with an energy all of its own. And Your uncle is mining it off the land he just acquired. This metal can be used to revive that creature. This is his goal.

“Wait… What? Why?”

It isn’t important right now. Let your husband know what he is doing. And I am going to reach out to the others. It seems like we are running out of time. Sparks hopped back a couple feet and lifted his head up to Kailee. I wish your mother was here during this time, but I am going to do the best that I can. Have faith in yourself and stay close to these… men. They can protect you better than I can.

Kailee watched as Sparks turned and flew out of the door and through the hall window. So, she was right. Her uncle was after the land for a reason. But why would he want to revive that evil thing? And does this mean he was behind Trey’s fathers’ death as well?
