Who Is My Husband -
Scene 36
Kailee felt the gentle tapping on her hand. She looked at Koma who was smiling up at her.
“There there. Calm down before you end up subconsciously killing the girl.” He chuckled and rubbed her hand.
It was a bit comical. Someone so small rubbing her hand. It almost felt like a small bug crawling on her if not for the warmth that came from it. She smiled back a bit embarrassed. “Sorry. I guess I am a bit possessive too.”
“As you should be. If anyone in this entire world should get to keep their mate it is you. And no one should get a say in it.” Dio said and walked a bit closer to Kailee. “You are going to replace out just how important you are. You have a lot of us that are on your side.”
“On my side?” Kailee asked. “I’m on a side?” She tilted her head in confusion.
“If you make a side then we are on it.” Pyro said with a chuckle.
Kailee looked at Pyro and sighed. “I don’t think there should be a side. I think we should all just exist together. We all share this world together, right?”
“That is a tough philosophy though. Who decides what is wrong and what is right? What is good and what is evil? What crimes are crimes that need to be punished? And how are crimes determined? You see everyone has a different perception of evil and good and wrong and right. Just like the current monarch. They are not evil, but they took a stance that they felt was needed. This made a lot of us feel wronged and isolated… but that is all the past now. All we can do is set our mind on a future that we want and reach for it. And for us, that future is you. We will always follow you.” Grant looked up at the other three gnomes who were nodding their heads in agreement.
“I understand what you are saying. So what kind of magic can you guys do?” Kailee was curious about her new little friends.
“Well, we can put up a masking barrier to make your presence undetectable. We can hold it forever with ourselves but not very long for others. Then we can each do minor things. Like minor healing, shielding, teleporting, we dabble in a little bit of everything.” Dio said with a shrug.
“What can I do?” Kailee asked.
Pyro grinned and looked at her. “Fishing for information?” He chuckled as he watched her smile.
She shifted to get more comfortable and winced from the shocking pain that shot through her body.
“Easy. I wish we could heal this for you.” Koma said with a frown.
“It’s okay. I just wasn’t expecting it. I forgot about it.” Kailee said and this time moved slower as she adjusted herself. “Are you guys going to always be here from now on?”
“We will be in the area. Don’t worry. We are not going to be constantly spying on you or anything. But we will be close by.” Grant looked over at Dio and they both nodded. “The masking barrier is coming down. That is about all we can do for now. Unless it was an emergency.”
“And not just for fun to pick on your guards.” Pyro snickered.
“Should we go?” Koma asked.
“I think it would be better for me to introduce you all. I want you all to be on good terms.” Kailee watched as Pyro rolled his eyes.
“If that is what you want. We will wait here then. They will be able to sense your presence now.” Grant said.
“I’m not going to lie. This is a bit satisfying knowing we one upped them.” Pyro said as his eyes glinted with humor.
“Let’s hope they don’t decide to kill us over it.” Koma said with a nervous chuckle.
“I would never let them.” Kailee said with a smile. “Which has me thinking… If it is up to me to take care of Bane, am I stronger than them?”
“Depends on how we are talking. When it comes to brute strength then the answer is no. But…” Dio started as Grant took over.
“But when it comes to your magic there is no one who compares. They can have all the strength in the world, but you can subdue them. So, if I was betting it would be on you.” Grant smiled and looked up at her. “Not that you would ever have to fight against them. Your mate is someone that is incredibly strong in both strength and magic, but your magic could still subdue him.”
“From what I could gather Trey would love to just disappear somewhere with you and ignore the whole world. But he also has a strong sense of duty.” Koma reflected on how he interpreted Trey’s character. In his opinion his devotion to Kailee was stronger than his sense of duty.
Loud thumping noises were heard in a frantic sound. Then suddenly the door to the room came open in a hurry. Lance rushed in. He looked relieved when his eyes met with Kailee’s, then darkness came over them as he looked at the four gnomes.
“Lance. These are my stewards. They are my little protectors.” Kailee smiled up at Lance. “Come and say hi. I want you all to be friends.”
Lance chuckled. “Grum is going to kill them.” He smiled and shook his head. “Are you okay Kailee?”
“I’m fine. They just wanted to introduce themselves to me and maybe play a bit of a trick on you guys as well.” Kailee giggled and another set of rushed footsteps came inside. She looked up to see Trey and Grum race into the room. She could see Trey’s eyes through his mask and the worry in his eyes. She gave him a reassuring smile as he walked over to her.
He ignored the gnomes and knelt at her side. His hand reached out and he took her hand into his. She felt his hand shaking and listened as he was trying to control the shudder in his breathing. He lifted his head up to her.
“I was so scared Kailee.” Trey’s voice came out in a breath.
“I’m okay.” She gave him a small smile. “These are my stewards. They are protectors of mine.” Kailee motioned to the four gnomes who had gathered together on the cushion of the couch. “This is Pyro, Dio, Grant and Koma…” She then motioned her head over towards Trey. “And this is my mate and husband, Trey.”
Koma hopped over and walked over towards Trey. He took his hand out and patted over Trey’s fingers that were laced with Kailee’s. “There there. She is okay.”
Trey could feel the unusual warmth from the gnome’s hand. And he felt himself relaxing under it. He smiled behind his mask. “You can manipulate moods? You might come in handy if she is ever angry at me.” Trey chuckled and Koma laughed with a small nod.
“We are also your stewards now too. Since you are her mate, we are obligated to keep you safe as well.” Pyro said with a small frown.
Trey chuckled. “You can spend all your energy on keeping her safe. I don’t exactly need the protection.”
Kailee clicked her tongue. “Actually, Trey I am told I am stronger than you are. So maybe they should be protecting you more.” She smirked at him as he quirked a brow up at her behind his mask. He then looked at the four gnomes who nodded their heads with a smile.
“Not physically of course.” Dio added in with a small shrug.
Trey looked a bit puzzled at this. “Are you quite sure about that? You know enough about me and her to determine that?”
“Easily.” Pyro said with a grin.
Grum scoffed at this and folded his arms in disbelief.
“She could subdue the four of you put together.” Dio snickered as he looked up at Grum.
“Well, what is she that she is this strong?” Trey asked.
“There is no way we are disclosing that information. Not until she knows about herself first. It will be her choice whether she tells you.” Grant said as he looked up at Kailee.
Koma smiled. “Though I can’t imagine she would keep it a secret. They are quite adorable together. Even their heart rates sync up when they are close.”
Kailee blushed and raised her hand up to cover her face. “No empathing out loud.” She looked between her fingers over at Trey. She noticed that Reggie never came in so he was probably still with their guests. “You can go back to your guests.” Kailee said quietly. Trey continued to stare at her with his green pooling eyes.
“I got the gist of what is going on. I am just going to say this. I’m sure your family means well… at least I hope that they do. But bringing someone else here to try to force you to take them as a mate is going to end up getting that girl killed. I realized I am more possessive than I ever realized. I don’t intend on ever giving you up. You are mine. Just keep that in mind while all these discussions are going on.” Kailee wanted to let him know that she knew what was being discussed and she wanted to show what her stance is over it.
Trey never wanted to devour her body more than he did in that moment. Hearing how boldly she was claiming him ignited a strong desire for her. He clenched his jaw and fought for control against himself.
“You are just going to have to wait until she is all healed up, sorry buddy.” Koma said with a knowing smirk.
“Like she said no empathing.” Trey said lowly.
“Like you need to be an empath to see what you are thinking Trey.” Lance chuckled and flashed him a wide grin.
Trey shook his head and looked at Kailee. He brought his hand up to rest on her cheek. “Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly love you anymore you go and say something like that. You are going to make me lose my self-control.” He watched as the crimson red seized her cheeks. “Kailee, you are mine and I am yours. I will be marking you soon which will permanently bind you to me. Prepare yourself for it.”
“I’m still not a fan of his, but he does seem to really care for her. I guess I don’t mind protecting him.” Pyro said with a shrug. “Well, we will be around Kailee. Call for us if you need us.”
“Wait. You guys are going to be staying here too?” Grum said in a low growl.
“Yeah, and she wants us to get along and be friends.” Dio gave Grum a crooked grin.
“Wonderful.” Grum said in irritation.
“Guess we have to k**s and make up.” Pyro said grinning widely at the grimacing Grum.
“Let’s see what food they have in the kitchen.” Dio said happily. The four gnomes jumped off of the couch and disappeared through the floor.
Kailee glanced down in awe. That seemed like a handy skill. She looked up at Lance and Grum. “Are they not adorable?!” She listened to Grum’s low mumble. It was obvious he was still upset over them getting the better of him.
“Kailee…” Trey said in a soft baritone sound. He was looking at her feeling conflicted about leaving her side after thinking he had lost her.
She turned her head and met with his. She reached out grabbing onto his arm to pull her body closer to his. Searing burning pain shot through her and her brows furrowed a bit as she fought through it. She wanted to give him a hug to reassure him. She felt his arms come around her and he held her close.
“I was so worried Kailee. I don’t think I can live without you.” Trey’s breath fanned against her neck as he nuzzled his head into her neck gently. “No… I know I can’t live without you.”
“Same. I need you as well.” Kailee whispered back to him quietly.
“Don’t worry. I will settle things with my family. No matter what. I won’t ever choose another but you.”
Kailee felt her body being cradled and then hoisted into the air. Trey gently carried her to Grum and shifted her body into him. His eyes met with Grum’s.
“I won’t leave her side for a second this time.” Grum said with a small head nod.
Trey lifted his hand and traced it over Kailee’s cheek and then let his fingertips travel over her lips. “I’ll be by your side soon.”
He walked out of the room with Lance following behind him. When he heard that Kailee had been taken he was ready to destroy everything around him. He would burn the world down, leaving no stone unturned trying to replace her. He ran out of the room leaving his family there sitting with Reggie. To hell with them. Life had no meaning without Kailee. And he was going to make sure they understood him clearly. There was no other choice for him but Kailee. She was it. And if they tried to force him into taking someone else, he would quit being him. He would take Kailee and leave. Together they would live a simple life in a village somewhere. Anywhere. It didn’t matter to him as long as she was always by his side.
“You must be feeling pretty good right now hearing her claim you.” Lance bumped his shoulder against Trey and shot him a toothy smile.
Trey smiled widely and chuckled, nodding his head. “If she wasn’t recovering…” He shook his head as they walked down the stone hallway. “Once she is completely better… I’ll give her another day of recovery after she is feeling better to be safe but then I am going to mark her. It is time.”
“What do you make of them saying she is stronger than you… than the four of us?” Lance looked at Trey who slowed his pace for a moment.
“I don’t know. I don’t know what she could be that could be stronger than the four of us. But if that is true…” He stopped walking and turned to look at Lance. He grinned and shrugged. “I replace that even more attractive.”
Lance laughed. “Well, I think you are in for it. The only thing that I can think of that would be stronger than you is a demon. Brace yourself, you are about to be burned.”
“Don’t make me excited.” Trey grinned and resumed walking.
“Such a masochist.” Lance and Trey’s laughter echoed down the hall as they walked back to the parlor.
Trey would be asserting himself and his stance. It never mattered to him what Kailee is. From the moment he saw her he knew then that she was his.
