The past few days had been very hectic for the group. The guys were out looking for signs of Jane and anything out of the ordinary. They were now having a meeting with Alistair who had stopped by to visit letting them know that Fredrick had disappeared. Kailee, Trey and Alistair were sitting in a private closed room so Trey would not need to have his mask on.

“I wonder how deep the treachery of the Order is in my kingdom.” Trey rubbed his temples as he felt the stress building up. With the order behind trying to revive Bane, how was he going to stop it? How many followers did the Order have at their disposal? He was going to have to bring down the Order, there was no other way. He felt a soft warm hand rest on his forearm, and he looked up to meet with Kailee’s brown eyes. That was the other thing he was worried about. What should he do about the knowledge of who she is?

“Alistair…” Trey looked up to the man who sat across from him. “What do you think is the best way to handle Kailee? I’m worried that…well if what she is becomes public…”

“I’m glad to see we are on the same page with this. I was already wanting to speak with you over this issue. It isn’t just Kailee who would be a target. Her children would also be a target. It would be easier to obtain one of her children… your future children.” Alistair frowned and shook his head. “Those of us in the forest realm already know who she is, and she is safe among us. There is no reason you need to announce what she is. Just call her a magic wielder. That would best describe her abilities without suspicion.”

“Without her shifting, no one will ever know of her existence. I also think it is best to keep her a secret. My biggest concern is keeping her safe… and our future safe as well.” Trey smiled over at Kailee. He reached his hand over hers that was still resting on his arm. He gently squeezed her hand before lifting it up to his lips. “If I have to disappear with her in order to keep her safe then I will.”

“Thank you.” Alistair said quietly. He watched as Trey and Kailee looked up at him with questioning eyes. “Thank you for being someone worthy of her.”

Trey shook his head. “I don’t know about that. But I will do everything that I can to keep her safe.”

“Trey.” Kailee scolded.

Alistair shook his head smiling. “That is exactly why you are… I do have something I would like to discuss with you though.” He watched as Trey shifted more upright, staring at him curiously. “We have talked this over and would like for Bethany to stay with you. Bethany has asked to become Kailee’s guard and we thought this would be most fitting since she is a dragon. And don’t worry about her strength. She is a fierce warrior and not just for a female. She will be an asset and a trusted protector for Kailee.”

Trey looked at Kailee and tilted his head to the side. “What do you think? I must agree that we could use her. There are events that are just for women and having her as a guard then would make me feel more comfortable.”

Kailee smiled and nodded her head. “I’d love it if Bethany could join us. Is she sure she is okay with that? Is she leaving any family behind?”

Alistair shook his head. “Yes, she is more than okay with this. She is a warrior at heart while the other few dragons that reside in the forest are very peaceful. She is not the type of person who likes being shut in while the world burns. She wants to be out there using her skills. And for her protecting you would be the greatest honor she could ever ask for.”

“Well, I don’t know about that. But I’d love to have her as a friend. I haven’t really had any friends that were girls.” Kailee liked Bethany. This would be her chance to form a real girl friendship with someone.

Alistair chuckled. “Well, Bethany isn’t really the girly type. Her demeanor is more like a man, but she is fierce and loyal. She may not be into the dresses and frills, but she will be a dependable companion. And I am sure you two will become good friends.”

“I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the past few days. I think I need to return back home. I need to see if I can uncover the traitors. I’ll leave Phill here in charge of taking over as the Lord of Clover Estate. Luckily, if he wears the mask no one will know the difference. With him and Will here they can get word to us if anything seems off. If Bethany wishes to travel with us then let her know we are leaving at first light.” Trey felt Kailee’s body tense beside him and he turned to look at her curiously.

“Kailee? Are you okay?”

She turned her head and gave him a small smile. “I guess I’m a bit nervous… I mean your parents were not exactly happy about you being with me. And I wasn’t raised with the right upbringing to know how to act mmfff.” She felt his lips press into hers shutting her up.

Trey chuckled and pulled away from her. “Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” He smiled as he looked down at her. He hadn’t seen her act like this since when he first had her brought to Clover Estates. They have come so far in their relationship since then. Kailee has really come out of her shell too.

He recalled how nervous and excited he was after he had made the deal with Fredrick. He practically ran inside yelling for Lance and Grum. He was flustered and talking so fast. He had a childlike excitement over him. He paced back and forth as he waited for her. He kept playing in his head how he wanted to act and what he wanted to say. He told himself he would put her in the room next to his and give her time to adjust… Yeah that didn’t happen. When he saw her walk into the room his breath caught in his chest. His heart started racing and her scent drifted heavenly around him. There was no way he couldn’t sleep with her. It was agony just being close to her without touching her.

He continued to grin at her. He leaned forward kissing her forehead brushing his nose against her hair. Now he could k**s her anytime he wanted. And as fate would have it, they were mutual mates. She looked so adorable how she sat there biting her bottom l*p nervously. She had no idea how crazy he actually was about her.

“We will keep looking for Fredrick and will deal with him if we see him.”

Alistair’s voice snapped Trey from his thoughts. He easily got consumed by Kailee when she was near him. He looked across the table and nodded his head. “Please leave word and let us know if you need anything. I am leaving behind a couple of good men who wouldn’t hesitate to help if needed.”

“Thank you, Trey.” Alistair stood up. “Well, I need to be heading back. I need to let Bethany know of your plans so she will have time to prepare. I know she will want to go with you. Just a heads up… she can have quite the short temper…”

Trey chuckled as he stood up helping Kailee up alongside him. “That’s normal for dragons. Don’t worry I am used to dealing with hot tempers.”

“I’ll visit when you guys come back… how long are you anticipating?” Alistair asked, glancing down at Kailee.

Trey shrugged with a sigh. “I don’t know. Either until something happens here or we replace the traitors there. It could be a short or long visit.”

“It will be a good way for Kailee to get her feet wet. She will get to have a dose of her upcoming life and know what to expect when the move is permanent.” Alistair smiled as he saw the nervous look on Kailee’s face. “Don’t worry Kailee. You will do well no matter where you are. Your mother was nervous at first leaving the forest. She wasn’t sure how it would be living among regular humans. She was worried for nothing and the same goes for you.”

Kailee smiled and nodded her head. “I’ll be fine with Trey by my side.”

“That’s exactly what your mother said about your father.” Alistair winked at her. “Alright, I can see myself out. I’ll be in touch.”

Kailee watched as Alistair left the room, closing the door behind him. When she turned to look at Trey she instantly felt his lips on hers. His hand reached up to cup her cheek as he held her in place. She felt his tongue push into her mouth licking over her lips as it entered. She found herself reaching her arms up to hold his head in place as she responded to his passionate k**s.

She took a step backwards as he pressed into her. His urgency and passion building every second. Then she felt her back land upon the cold wall as he pinned her against the solid barrier.

“Trey we found something interrr…” Reggie stopped and smirked as he entered the room. He grinned when he saw Kailee’s embarrassment crawling over her face and down her neck. Even her ears were turning red. “Let me correct that statement. That would be two interesting things.” He chuckled as Trey growled at him. “Hey, don’t growl at me. How am I supposed to know that you were about to deflower an innocent right here in the not your bedroom?”

Kailee buried her head under Trey’s arm and she felt him hold her closer into him.

Later… She heard his gruffer voice in her mind. The sound of it sent chills up her body as she read the hidden meaning in his tone.

“What did you guys replace out?” Trey kept his eyes locked onto Reggie as the door opened. Lance and Grum walked into the room, shutting the door behind them.

Lance looked at Kailee hiding in Trey’s arms and arched his eyebrow up at him. But he could see Trey wasn’t planning on explaining her actions.

“Remember how I mentioned before that Jane frequented a male visitor?” Reggie said, bringing the attention back onto him. He watched Trey nod his head and Kailee peaked her eyes out from under his arm. “Well that man is actually a warlock. And guess who his sister is… it’s Cresha.” Reggie nodded his head with disgust. “Yeah you are thinking correctly. Jane has been betraying us for quite some time.”

“So that’s how that damn witch knew I was here and who I was. She found out from her brother who found out from Jane…” Trey rubbed his forehead with his free hand. “Gosh, who else is involved with all of this? And how did this even happen?!” He always thought his people we completely loyal. This hurt and shook him slightly. Why would his own kind betray him? How long has it been happening and who all was involved? Was it something the monarchy did? What were their reasonings behind this?

“Trey… this isn’t your fault. Why does anyone look to do something like this?” Lance said and smiled at Trey. “This is a heart problem not a species problem. It could be because of the promise of power or wealth. Anything. But this has nothing to do with how you do things. Trey…”

“He’s right Trey. I can see you blaming yourself already. You are the best person I have ever met…period. You are the only one who looked at me twice and treated me normally. I follow you as a person Trey. It isn’t because you are a prince… it is because you are Trey.” Grum said sternly. He wouldn’t have him thinking badly about himself. Not when Trey was the reason, he has the life he does now. He is living a good life now because of Trey. He doesn’t need his birth family because he has a better family now.

“Thanks… I guess we will have our work cut out for us. We are going to have to be diligent to catch everyone who is conspiring against the kingdom… We leave at first light. Will and Phill will take care of things here. We will need to act as normal as possible to not draw suspicion. But everyone is a suspect… we can’t trust no one at this point.” Trey sighed and looked upwards. Who else was involved? He hoped it was no one else that they were close to.

“What about your parents?” Reggie asked.

“The fewer people who know what we are doing the better. So not that they are untrustworthy, but I think it is best to keep this a secret. As far as they know we are coming to introduce the kingdom to their future queen.” Trey smiled shifting Kailee a bit forward.

Kailee bit her bottom l*p and felt a small pit in her stomach. Great… this wasn’t going to be an undercover visit. She was going to be made a spectacle. Upon further consideration maybe she should have chosen to remain a unicorn.
