As the dragons flew overhead a certain orange dragon kept looking back to where Kailee was left. He felt the pull as soon as they came into the area. He eyed the dark dragon curiously. Who was she? And he wondered if she felt the pull too. It has happened when you end up not being mutual mates and that only one dragon has the pull. He looked back ahead as they flew over the castle. He couldn’t think about that right now. His eyes widened as he looked down at the fight going on beneath them.

“What the hell are those?” Reggie asked as he moved closer to Trey. The dragons looked down in horror at these dark black tar oozing creatures that resembled an oversized salamander attacked the dragons. The dragon army was being pushed back and was no longer holding their own. They had casualties on their end in just a short amount of time.

Trey looked down at his people frantically until his eyes landed on his father’s dragon. He was fighting against two of the weird salamander creatures. “Dad!” Trey yelled and dove down to his side. Reggie, Grum and Lance followed with him.

They landed protectively in front of Richard blocking the salamanders from him. Trey looked at the red liquid trickling down his father’s scales. His dragon was already exhausted from the fight. “Dad retreat back to the castle. We will hold the line. Stay by mom, she will need you right now.” He added the last part knowing his father wouldn’t leave willingly.

Richard hesitated and then took a step backwards. “Be careful son. I’ll come back after I heal up some.”

“No, dad, just stay at the castle. In case they break through they will need you there.” Trey had no intention of letting any of these creatures pass by him. But this would keep his father from returning back into the fight. He watched his father leave and resumed his attention on the fight in front of him. Grum and Reggie were fighting the two creatures in front of them while Lance was watching Trey’s back.

Trey leaped forward. His throat spewed orange flames over the salamanders, but nothing happened. “They are immune to fire…” Trey felt his stomach sink. These creatures were about the same size as the dragons. They had fangs and lethal claws. Without their flames, their only advantage would be the air. And they could not exactly fight them in the air.

He glanced down the line at all the disturbing tar-like salamander creatures that were attacking like a pack. The dragons were neither winning nor losing. They were just holding their own. But the outcome wasn’t looking good. At this rate, there would be many casualties. One of the hardest-hitting battles they have faced.

“Watch out Trey!” Grum yelled as another salamander came in from the side. It spit a ball of black towards Trey. Right as it was about to make contact a ripple happened in front of Trey. The ball disintegrated in front of him. Then a mass pulsing wave of energy shot out from him. The wave pushed forward and slammed against the salamanders. It then shot out again creating a blinding light explosion effectively pushing the salamanders even farther back.

Trey looked out in awe. Kailee’s shield had protected him and then she shot out an attack so strong that it wiped out a large section of the creatures. They were gone. As if her energy disintegrated them. A fraction of her power just took out what the dragon army was struggling to take out. He turned his head backwards in the direction his mate was. He was worried because she took the hit for him. He hoped she wasn’t injured from it.

“Now is the time to push while we have this gap in the lines.” Grum’s voice snapped Trey back to the battle.

“Yes. We need to use this to our advantage.” Trey looked ahead as more salamanders crawled out of the hole. There would be no end until Kailee got to them. They needed to hold the line long enough for her to get to them and seal the tear.

“Kailee, are you okay?” Sorsha asked as she flew beside Bethany. She had been preoccupied thinking about the orange dragon she had seen fly over top of them. She knew he was her mate but didn’t know who he was. She felt nervous and excited. And she was now also worrying about the perfect stranger.

“Yes, I’m fine. Something was attacking Trey. We need to seal this tear so we can get to them quickly.” Kailee rubbed her shoulder from the burning sensation. She had a small burn mark from whatever had tried to attack Trey. The hit startled her as it was stronger than the last thing that attacked him. It made her retaliate even harsher. The surge she sent out from her was on a mission to destroy whatever was attacking her mate.

I think we met that one before… Sparks said as they came upon the other tear. A large frog was sitting right in front of it. He should know who you are here.

“If you don’t want to end up in a bubble again I suggest you go right back where you came from.” Kailee watched as the frog studied her for a moment. She wondered at first if he was sizing them up for a meal. But then he turned and hopped back to the hole where he had come from.

Luckily it was the frog outside this hole. He kept other creatures from coming out since they would be afraid it would eat them. Sparks flapped his wings in place as they held their position. He watched as the rip in front of them sealed back over disconnecting the two worlds once more.

“Well, would you look at that? My niece isn’t completely useless after all.”

Kailee snapped her head around at the familiar voice. On the ground was her uncle surrounded by two others she didn’t recognize and then behind them was Jane.

“Sorsha… go and help Trey. We will catch up after we take care of this mess.” Kailee turned and looked at the dark dragon. “I think they need help with whatever they are dealing with there and I’m not sure how long this will take me.”

“You sure you don’t need me here?” Sorsha asked.

A crooked smile raised up on Kailee’s lips. “I’m positive. Bethany will fly me over after this. We will be there as fast as we can so just help them hang on until then.”

Sorsha glanced down at the group. She recognized them as members of the Order. But she also knew who Kailee was and that she had an untapped strength inside of her. She spun in the air and flapped her wings quickly in the direction of the castle. Her mind began thinking about the orange dragon once again. She hoped he was safe.

“Lower me down.” Kailee said to Bethany. Once they reached the ground Kailee slid off of Bethany’s back. She walked out just in front of her to face the four people standing there.

“You discover a little bit of magic and now look you are brimming with confidence.” Fredrick sneered.

One of the people next to Fredrick lifted their hood over their head. It revealed a woman with silver hair and dark sunspots over her old skin.

“You… it was you who injured me before.”

Kailee glared at the woman. “Cresha, I presume?”

The old woman curled her l*p up at Kailee angrily. Without any notice, a bolt of lightning flashed towards Kailee. But Kailee effortlessly halted the charged energy and it disappeared in front of her.

The old woman’s eyes widened as she scowled at Kailee. “What the hell are you?”

“That really doesn’t matter.” Kailee stared with a small smile on her face. “It isn’t like you will live long enough to need that knowledge. For taking what is mine I am sentencing you to death.”

The old woman cackled. “We are part of the ancient Order little girl. What power do YOU have to defeat us?”

Kailee eyed the group. She could sense the magic and power… it was no match for her. But their lives were connected to Bane’s life now. So, in order to truly kill them, she would need to kill Bane. “You have sealed your own doom. In order to kill everyone in the Order we only need to get rid of Bane.”

Fredrick laughed loudly as well as the man next to him. The man next to him wasn’t old but he didn’t look young either. By the way Jane clung next to him he was someone she cared about.

“Take out Bane? That is impossible. Bane can’t be destroyed.” Fredrick said with a venomous hiss.

“I wonder…” Kailee smiled. “Hmmm just what should I do with you four until then.”

Seal them Kailee. Don’t waste your energy on trying to kill what can’t be killed. Either seal them or put them to sleep.

“Don’t worry, Sparks. I don’t plan to let them waste any more of my time. I need to go and help the others.”

“I don’t like your smug arrogance little girl.” The man next to Jane growled. “You think that single dragon can protect you from us?” He asked, pointing at Bethany.

Kailee’s smile widened. “She is not the one who will subdue you. I can do that all on my own.” She then directed her gaze to Fredrick. “You killed my parents. You killed others all in order to revive Bane. But you will never get a chance to meet him. I want you to know that I despise you and there are no feelings of remorse for what I am about to do. You didn’t realize this but you brought your own doom into your front door the day you brought me home.”

A ball of flame launched towards Kailee as well as a bolt of energy from the witch. Kailee stared at the incoming attacks and imploded them together. The force was pushed backwards and into the four unsuspecting people.

“How I would love to actually kill you… but this is the most I can do for now. Watch as your dream burns.” As Kailee said this Jane shifted into her dark brown dragon and charged forward.

Bethany lunged into her and the two colossal creatures clashed together. The ground shook as Bethany slammed Jane into the ground. She was having her way with the dragon. The guy next to her uncle tried to unleash his power but Kailee stopped him. Kailee began sealing the three people’s hands in a ball of impenetrable ice. Then next their feet as the ice grew up their legs.

“This is impossible.” Cresha said as she struggled in vain.

“What kind of demon child are you?” Fredrick looked up at Kailee and glared at her angrily.

“I want you to stay here frozen and conscious in your last moments. I want you to die knowing that all of your efforts have been in vain. Bane will not be allowed to exist in this world and neither will you.” Kailee then raised the ice over their whole bodies holding them in frozen place.

She turned and looked at Bethany who held Jane down by her throat. “It’s no use Beth, you can’t kill her. Step away from her.” As Bethany did Kailee focused her energy on Jane and deshifted her.

“How did you do that?” Jane’s shrilled voice screamed out to Kailee. Her eyes filled with fear and panic as her body began to freeze over.

“How dare you put your filthy disgusting lips on my mate. I really wanted to kill you myself…oh well… I guess I’ll take solace knowing the last moments of your life will be in fear. You know it’s coming but don’t know exactly when your existence will cease to exist.” As the ice covered over Jane’s head Kailee smiled. “Why don’t you use those lies of yours to comfort yourself. Tell yourself everything will be okay because we can’t defeat Bane.”

Well done Kailee. Sparks marveled at Kailee’s determination and power. She managed her magic effortlessly. A sign that she has truly embraced who she is.

“Alright Bethany time for us to go rescue the men.” Kailee winked at Bethany who roared in agreement. She hopped onto Bethany’s back, and they raced against the wind in the sky. Deep down she was really worried about everyone there. She hoped they would be okay until she arrived.
