Wing Of Change
Chapter 19

**

Aria has been so busy settling into her new workplace that she totally forgot about the upcoming book launch with Frank.

It was as if her life has been fast forwarded to that very moment she has always dreamt about.

Her personal space with an incredible view to keep her mind relaxed while she took that well deserving break from the pile of manuscript waiting on her table to be reviewed.

She never thought reading through other people ideas could be so mind blowing and at the same time demanding.

Her new boss was so polite and considerate. He took it upon himself and made sure her office was comfortable enough even though she wouldn’t mind any of the possible discomfort at any point in time.

Everything was more than she had hoped for and she was totally thanking her lucky star for it.

After two days of intensive training on how to go about her editing exercise, she settled in perfectly. The pay look promising even though it was nothing compared to what she was earning at the Okoji company.

She was still cool with it.

Her mind wondered off to Frank and the upcoming event and couldn’t help but shiver involuntarily at the thought of it.

His mere presence does things to her mind and sometimes causes her knees to grow weak with flags of butterflies waving around in her stomach.

Only God knows how she’d live through the night hanging so closely by his side without being so vulnerable in his presence.

Ever since she finally remembered everything they did that night. Nothing has been same for her again.

Aria’s thought were no longer peaceful and innocent like they used to be before it all happened. She couldn’t even bare to sleep at night without the thought of him invading her mind like a thief in the night.

Her body arches at the memory of them being together that night and whenever he was close by, she just couldn’t understand the force pulling at her heart strings even though she was pretty good at masking it with distain.

Was that night she spent with him to blame for her recent reaction to his presence or her raging hormone that has tasted the forbidden fruit that doesn’t want to be subjected to a life of celibacy any longer.

After promising herself no s*x before marriage and breaking that same promise all together. Aria was left to battle an unquenchable taste of what she swore never to have again even if it killed her on the inside.

Each night she would toss and turn the length and breadth of her bed without catching a single ounce of sleep and waking up to yet another heart wrecking day.

Pushing the thought to the back of her mind, she let her eyes close for a moment and inhaled deeply before glancing at the wall clock hanging on the blue painted wall. It was still 12pm and still has two more hours to call it a day.

Her phone vibrated on her desk causing her to jolt slightly before reaching for the little buzzing device.

She sighed in relief when she scanned through the message content._for a moment there, she thought it was a message from Frank but obviously it wasn’t as she had forgotten for a moment there just how annoying these telecommunication network can be when it comes to sending random messages in order to advertise one promo or the next .

Placing the device where she has picked it from. She leaned back against her chair still staring out the window._to even think that someone who had invited her to an event would think to call and remind her or maybe just to make it, was an understatement.

She hasn’t even gotten as little as a missed call not to mention a text message from him since he went dragging her to a shopping mall and picking out a dress she still hasnt bothered to try on.

Aria was beginning to let the thought of him get the best of her with each passing second and she was starting to hate every bit of it.

Thinking of someone who doesn’t even think of you is punishment enough but pretending not to think about them when your mind already has them on repeat is the worst punishment even.

She continued to push herself through that day with much work and determination. And once it was 2pm, she rounded up before heading down to the parking lot.

She ran into one of her colleague, Mr Joe on her way there. He seemed not more than thirty. He is in charge of publishing and has a friendly aura that Aria had been drawn to since her resumption.

“Hello Miss Davis. I see that you are heading home now” he told her.

“Yes I am and I see that you are also heading home as well?”

“Yes you are right. Am trying to beat traffic if not avoid it entirely. You know how badly it get during the weekend” He told her with a knowing look and Aria couldn’t help but agree as well.

“You are absolutely right. It’s really crazy on weekends so we better head out and not waste any more time talking about it when we can actually beat it”

Aria began to walk away before she heard him calling at her again.

“Do have a wonderful weekend” he told her with a smile.

Aria gave a small smile and a nod. “You too Mr Joe. Thank you”

She waved him goodbye and proceeded to her car.

**

Aria got home later in the evening more exhausted than she had earlier imagined. She got stucked in traffic for two whole hours even though she left for home a lot earlier than necessary.

Someone gas refilling tanker had decided to nap on the road after its tyre was punctured by a nail.

She took a quick shower and head straight to bed after having dinner. She was lucky to have grab dinner on her way home.

She just lay in bed very much unable to sleep so she decided to call her parent. It has been a while she last spoke to any of them.

She decided to dial her mother’s number first and she picked on the first ring.

“Good evening Mom” Aria had said into the receiver the moment she answered.

“Evening my dear, how are you doing? Your father and I have been worried about you. You didn’t even think to call us so we could know how you are doing.

I hope everything is fine”

Her mom had went on and on in one sentence.

Damn!

“Mommy chill na. I am fine and nothing is wrong with me and I have just been busy with work” Aria had explained.

She could sense how worried her mother could be feeling just from her voice but when has she never been worried about her before. She was the type to fret over almost everything that has to with her children._left to her, she’d be home where she could see her and be sure she was really okay.

“Your brother told us about your new job. I hope your boss is a good man and he is not giving you troubles”

“Everything is fine mother. My new boss is a good man and he hasnt given me any issues at all._” Aria took a deep breath and paused. “_how is dad and grandma?”

When her mother took a deep sigh from the other end. Aria knew she was about to tell her all the latest gist at home she had missed out on.

Aria did listened with full interest while her mother narrated every single happening at home to her. Right from their neighbour’s son who had gotten into a fight with a tenant who had gotten his sister pregnant even though he was about to be married to another girl who lived just outside of town.

And then over to her cousin who have given birth to a set of twins boys which had automatically placed her in a bad mood. Not that she was jealous or anything but it reminded her of how she was treated at that very wedding some time back.

The only thing she wanted to hear about was her grandmother’s health and how she was faring not the extra gist that was starting to get her in a bad mood.

Aria gave a loud yawn. Exhaustion was starting to kick in full force.

“This one you are sounding tired. I hope you are eating well my dear” her mother has asked feeling more concern.

“Yes mother. Am eating perfectly well so stop worrying”

“Why won’t I worry eh! You are my only daughter and I can’t help but worry more about you especially when I don’t get to see you for so long”

Aria couldn’t help but sigh in frustration. It hasn’t been long ago she visited home and now she was making it look like it’s been ages she last went home for a visit.

“You worry too much mom and sometimes you forget that am old enough to take care of myself”

“Maybe I will stop worrying so much when I know you have someone other than your father and I to worry about you”

Okay!_now she get exactly where all the talk was headed but now is not the time to argue on it. Her eyelid was literally shutting down on its own from exhaustion.

“I doubt if that will stop you from worrying even more. So where is Dad?”

“He went out to visit his friend. You can call him back with his phone”

“I will call him tomorrow. I need to sleep right now because am really sleepy. It has been a long day for me”

Saturday is just hours away.

“Okay my child. Goodnight!”

“Good night mom!”
