Wing Of Change -
Chapter 45
Aria stood with wide eyes. Her mouth slightly agape as her eyes narrowed in on the unexpected scene before her.
Her eyes darted from the little boy seating by the corner watching whatever he was interested in on TV while Frank stood not two inches away from the woman in red facing his butler Larry.
Her eyes blink a few times as the ongoing scene registered in her mind and suddenly everyone went still like a song on a pause, every single head was turned at her direction.
What was going on?
Was she intruding on something?
Doesn’t seem like it but the presence of damn woman at his house so damn early in the morning was definitely not the kind of scene she was hoping to come home to.
She took a step closer and stood before Frank. Her expression giving her thoughts away as she low key asked him what could be going on and why in the world was that woman in his house.
Did she spend the night there?
“Look who showed up and was allowed entry without much trouble” Sandra’s had snickered behind them.
“What’s going on?” Aria had asked Frank and ignoring her comment completely.
Frank suddenly reached out and pulled Aria into his chest for a rather tight hug. He began to whisper hushed words into her ears while caressing at her back to soothe her anger.
“I need you to stay calm and listen to me okay? I will explain everything later but for now, I need you to play along”
Aria couldn’t help but melt against him. That man has a way of taming her thought even without realizing it.
“Did she spend the night here?” She whispered back.
“Of course not! She just showed up this morning with the kid because he wanted to have breakfast with me and we were just about to do that before you came in”
Aria was irked but relaxed nonetheless as she felt her initial anger dissolved at his words before she finally exhaled the breath she didn’t realized she was holding in.
Frank knew her so well. She was already on the verge of breaking down in tears and just about thinking the worst of the situation.
Sandra on the other hand only rolled her eyes at their public display of affection before she walked back to kneel beside her son.
She noticed Aria approaching them the mom Frank hurried back upstairs. Standing up to full length, she turned to face her with both hands anchored against her waist with a bored expression.
“Is this the part where you ask my son and i to leave your boyfriend house?” Her tone taunting.
Aria glanced over her shoulder to look at the little boy who was oblivious to what could be going on around him before settling back on her face.
“No! But this is the part where I get to meet my boyfriend son if you don’t mind” Aria had replied with a rather sweet little smile.
She didn’t wait for Sandra’s approval before she walked pass her and squat beside Daniel on the floor.
“Hello Daniel, my name is Aria; nice to meet you” she said with a smile.
“Hello” He said back in reply and spared Aria a little glance before turning his attention back on the TV.
“What are you watching Daniel” she enquired further trying to get the boy to interact more with her.
“Pjmask” he answered without looking at her, his attention not wavering from the screen not even for a second.
“Okay Daniel. Let me leave you to your pjmask okay?”
He answered with a nod.
Turning around on her heels, she came face to face with Sandra who has a satisfied grin on her face.
“Let me guess, you think your son doesn’t like me”
Shrugging_ she answered “I think that was a miserable attempt at playing little miss nice with my son”
“You know? It’s funny how you think that was a miserable attempt when all I see is a perfectly normal reaction from a little boy to a strange lady trying to get to know him right when he is totally distracted by the things he sees on TV”
“Alright if that’s how you choose to see it but I know my son and I can tell that he doesn’t like you”
Aria glance over her shoulder to stare at the little boy whose attention was still very much on the screen before shaking her head in disbelief.
“You might be his mother but I doubt you know the first thing about a child way of thinking. Just because he doesn’t pay attention to me doesn’t mean he dislike me. He simply don’t want to be distracted”
“And you know all these things about children because you are a mother? Oh no, you are not one yet! Not even a wife too. Just a girlfriend”
Aria took a step closer with every hair on her head standing on edge. But a little voice in her head had to remind herself why she needed to keep calm and not scratch her eyes out at that very moment.
“If i don’t know better I would think you want to be his girlfriend at this point but unfortunately you like the role of a baby mama better so keep playing it because it suit you best” Aria had replied with a sly smile.
“Tsk tsk tsk! You don’t want to play this game with me girl..I know Frank more than you do and before you start warming up to the idea of playing mom to my son in the nearest future simply because you are his girlfriend, you better think again because that will never happen”
Aria could clearly see her intentions now as she smiled at her nasty comment.
“I don’t know what you are afraid of but it’s good to know that you are afraid of something but dare not think for a second that you know my boyfriend more than I do because you are already six years late” her tone serious and threatening.
Aria must have hit a nerve with her last statement as she saw anger reflect in her eyes before she quickly covered it up with a chuckle.
“You seem pretty confident don’t you my dear” She asked with a raised brow.
“As confident as you are that Daniel is truly his son”
Aria had no idea what she was playing at but she wasn’t going to let that woman have the last say.
Frank emerging from the staircase finally put an end to their bricking as both ladies turned to stare at him.
“What’s going on?” His eyes darting between the two ladies.
“Nothing_I was just getting to know Daniel and he seem like a cute little boy” Aria had replied with a wide grin causing Sandra to scoff at her.
“I know right? Look how cute my boy is”
Frank lowered himself beside Daniel on the floor while Aria walked over to do same beside him too but that was after she threw Sandra a warning glare.
What better way to mark her territory against the woman locking around like a demon from hell than to show her she was the angel of the house.
Aria wasn’t going to let that woman get away with whatever she was planning without a good fight.
And not withstanding the sight for sore eyes before her, Sandra realized it was time to leave. Or better still retreat as she picked up her Denim hand bag before calling for her son.
“C’mon Daniel, it’s time to go home”
The little boy didn’t want to leave but the warning glare in his mother’s eyes told him he had to do as she had said.
He grudgingly got up on his feet and walked towards his mother who was impatiently waiting for him.
“Can’t you just let him stay a bit longer?” Frank had to ask. Seem he was already on the bridge of enjoying his company while looking at his masks entertainers on TV.
Looking at her waist watch briefly, she shook her head.
“No, I have to be somewhere and I promise to drop him off at his grandmother’s so we have to go”
Frank knew arguing with her would be useless as he turned to Daniel and gave his cheek a little pat.
“I will see you soon okay?”
“Okay”
Daniel turned to wave at his father before he was forcefully dragged out by his mother
