Wing Of Change -
Chapter 66
Aria was driving in a speed of light with only one destination in mind. Her feet slip off the gas pedal a few times as she kept trying to get the car to go even faster while maneuvering through the busy lane that was filled with yellow commercial buses that were very much in her way.
She needed the speed but no matter how much she pumped the gas, it still couldn’t go any faster than she already is. Her nose flared in anger as her grip tighten a little more around the steering wheels.
The nagging desire to bang her head against the steering at some point just to ease the frustration swelling up in her chest when another bus had crossed her lane without any notice was getting stronger.
Her throat burn in anger as tears threatened to stink her eyes but yet no tears made it down her cheeks. she was too upset to allow her emotions to spill over which only reminded her to keep calm with every deep breath she took.
She couldn’t wait to do the one thing she should have done long ago. She let her guard down in the worst way ever and it has cost her the trust of the only man she loved.
Heck!
How would she have been blind to all the signs. Lizzy even told her at some point only for her to brush it aside like it was nothing.
Aria should have known everything was deeper than that.
Henry had told lies just to manipulate her relationship with Frank and she had believed every bit of it without a single doubt.
Was she that gullible?_she wondered still as the line ahead began to pile up more and pulling her attention to actually hit the brake pedal before she run into one of the fleet of cars lined up ahead of hers.
Forty five minutes later_Aria was in a much worse mood after getting stucked in traffic for a while. Her neighborhood was just a few drive away as she kept driving towards home with burning anxiety.
A tingling sensation kept ringing in her ears causing a wave of emotions to hit her all at once. she could only blame how she was feeling at none other than Henry and all the trouble he has caused her up until that moment.
Aria finally drove into the parking lot of the building as she made it out of her car with great difficulty. Her stomach was churning out of control as she was feeling a bit dizzy and weak.
She leaned against the car for support for a little while before proceeding towards the entrance. She ignored every urge to just crawl into her apartment instead as she head for Henry’s apartment and gave a resounding knock against the door while she continued to leaned against the opposite wall for support.
She pushed herself off the wall after she heard footsteps approaching towards the door before it cracked open to reveal Henry who only stared back at her with a surprised gaze.
“What are you doing here?” His voice was incredulously bored and detached.
“Why did you lie to Frank that you and I are in a relationship”
His eyes widen in shock for a split second before it was quickly replaced with a blank expression.
Taking a deep sigh, he cocked his head to the side as he let his arms fall back to their normal position beside him.
“I should have known that’s the only reason you could be here at my door step at this very moment”
Aria who was starting to feel worst only forced herself to speak through gritted teeth.
“Answer the question Henry and stop playing games with me”
“I don’t know what he has told you but you can be sure, there are all lies. You know me. I would never tell such lies just to get on anyone good side”… He took a paused after Aria snorted at his ridiculous statement before adding….
“… Yes it’s true that I like you but I respect your decision to be with him and not me”
“I don’t know you Henry. You are just a guy who moved into this block and ever since my life has became a constant mess. So no, I don’t know you at all” she cried out.
“C’mon Aria. I’m not the bad guy”
He tried to reach for her hand but she step all the way back and swayed a little before leaning back against the wall.
He tried to reach for her again but Aria could only hold out her left hand to stop him.
“Just stay away from me. You have done more than enough don’t you think?”
She tried to focus on his face but she was loosing it as her vision has become blurry with heavy pounding in her head which was causing her stomach to grumble even more.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” She heard Henry’s voice calling at her.
“It’s none of your business if am okay or not..just stay the hell away from me”
She struggled back to her full length even though she could barely see an inch from where she stood before she turned to walk away but met with total darkness before she felt two strong arms wrapped around her followed by someone calling at her.
**
Meanwhile…..
Frank who had followed suit after Aria had ran out of his house arrived in front of their building when he noticed her car parked outside.
He was about to turn off the ignition of his car when he noticed Henry emerging from the entrance with Aria in both hands.
Frank wasn’t sure what could be going on but the sight got him jumping down from his car without a second thought as he race towards Henry who has noticed Frank approaching with such speed.
“Whoa whoa! You need to calm down man. I didn’t do anything to her. She was already feeling bad when she got here and am trying to get her to the hospital after she fainted” Henry had explained in panic.
Frank whose anger had evaporated at Henry’s words, came to an abrupt stop before him as his eyes beheld Aria’s unconscious body again for the second time.
He felt a peg of pain stink his heart when he noticed the little frown grazing her forehead even though she was out cold.
Her lips looked awfully dry as there were tightly pressed against the fabric of Henry’s blue and white plaid shirt. She looked really fragile and weak; causing the panic in his chest to contrast even more.
He reached for her hands and squeeze gently at them but was met with silence as her hand lay still in between his warm grasp.
Trying not to show Henry just how conflicted and scared he was. He took a deep breathe to steady his shaky breath.
“How long has it being since she passed out?”
“Not very long but we need to get her to the hospital as soon as possible”
Frank didnt have to ask before Henry had thought it wise to quickly hand her over without hesitation and after she was resting safely against his arms_he began to walk away toward his car only to pause a few inches away before he turned back at Henry again with a warning glare.
” I don’t know if you were telling the truth or not but if I were you then I’d start praying very hard that nothing should happen to her or you will be sorry.”
“I don’t doubt it man” throwing his hands up in total surrender.
**
Frank stood with anxious feet outside the door while the doctor attend to Aria on the inside.
At that point_all he could think of was how much he has neglected her this past days not to mention how upset he has been with her. He couldn’t help but feel like everything was his damn fault.
Could it be she has fallen ill and refused to talk to him about it because of the tension growing between them?_ Frank was a nervous wreck as he continue to pace around not knowing what exactly could be wrong with her.
He took a stroll down the lobby and settled down on the bench with his face buried into both his palms.
To Frank, time had stopped the moment he saw her lifeless body in another man’s arms that wasn’t his. The fear that overcame him was nothing compared to how he felt the day his late father passed away.
All the anger he felt towards her at that point got dissolved that very instant.
Thirty minutes felt like forever with
Frank seating in the same position for a while before he heard some footstep beside him and looked around, only to notice Henry leaning against the wall beside him.
He must have followed him
Frank could see the hesitation in his eyes as he stared back at him.
“How is she?”
Frank gave no reply as he simply stared back at Henry with a blank expression.
He hate that he was standing right there and speaking to him like everything was just okay when all that had happened was because of him.
Henry might be worried about her well being but to him?_he is still the same guy trying to steal her away from him without remorse or shame and everything he has done up until that moment was to separate them and Frank wasn’t in the mood to entertain or accept his sympathy towards her.
If he could have his way_he’d ask him to leave but now is not the time to create such scene because all he want at that moment is for her to be okay.
Nonetheless_ Frank was about to ask him to leave before the nurse attending to Aria had walked out through the door with a sliver tray in search of him.
“Mr Okoji?” The nurse had asked not sure who among the two men was bearing the name as they had both walked towards him at the same time.
Frank who was too eager to hear what the nurse has to say, had rushed over to where he stood without paying much attention to Henry who had also tagged along as well.
“Is she okay nurse?”
The nurse who was average in height had answered with a small nod before replying.
“She is awake and fine. You can go see her in a minute but the doctor will like to speak with you in his office for a while”
“Okay”
“Follow me”
Frank only shot Henry a warning glare before walking away in the same direction the nurse had followed.
