Sarah's POV.

I stood at the large windows of my office, looking out at the city below. The view was impressive, but my thoughts were miles away.

It had been a few days since I slammed the door in Richard and Wesley's faces.

A part of me wondered if I had overreacted, but the larger part of me knew that it was time to take control of my life.

I was done being pushed around, done letting them dictate my emotions.

Richard married me for his inheritance-that truth still stung. But what hurt more was that I spent years hoping he'd fall in love with me.

That one day, he'd see me as more than just a means to an end. And Wesley?

I didn't even know where to start with him. He claimed he was helping me with my business, but instead he was just using me to get under Richard's skin.

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I needed to stop thinking about them.

I had more important things to focus on, like my company. After everything that had happened, my business had become my lifeline.

It was the one thing I could control, the one thing I was proud of. And now, I was determined to take it to the next level.

A knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts. "Come in," I called, turning away from the window.

Zoe stepped inside with her usual clipboard in hand.

"Sarah, you have a meeting in an hour with the team to discuss the new product launch. And I've scheduled a call with the potential investors for tomorrow morning." "Thanks, Zoe," I said, smiling at her. "I'll be ready."

She hesitated for a moment before speaking again. "Are you okay? You've seemed... distracted lately."

I forced a smile, not wanting to burden her with my personal drama. "I'm fine. Just a lot on my mind. But I'm focused, I promise."

Zoe nodded, still looking a little uncertain, but she didn't press further. "Alright. Let me know if you need anything."

As she left, I sat down at my desk and opened my laptop.

My company had made a lot of progress over the last months, but I wanted more.

I wanted to expand, to push boundaries. Richard and Wesley's businesses were always looming in the background, but I refused to compete directly with them.

I wanted to grow my company on my terms, not by stepping on anyone else.

I clicked through some reports, looking at potential new markets to expand into.

I had been considering Europe for a while, but I wasn't sure if we were ready. The idea of going global was exciting, but it was also risky.

Still, I couldn't help but feel a surge of determination. If I could make this happen, it would be the ultimate proof that I didn't need Richard or Wesley.

I could succeed on my own.

The phone rang, pulling me out of my thoughts again. I glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Emma, one of my closest friends and a business mentor of sorts.

I picked up the phone with a smile. "Emma! I was just thinking about you."

"Sarah! How's it going, girl?" Emma's cheerful voice was always a breath of fresh air.

"I'm surviving," I replied with a chuckle. "Work is keeping me busy, which is good."

"I hear you. I saw the news about your company's latest product line. You're killing it!"

I smiled, appreciating her support. "Thanks, Emma. But there's still so much to do. I'm thinking about expanding into Europe, but I don't know if we're ready."

"You're definitely ready," Emma said without hesitation. "You've built something amazing, Sarah. Don't doubt yourself. If you want to take your company global, do it. I'll back you all the way."

Her confidence in me was exactly what I needed to hear. "You really think so?"

"Absolutely. And if you need investors or advice, you know I'm here."

We chatted for a while longer, and by the time I hung up, I felt more energized.

Emma was right-I could do this. I wasn't going to let fear or the ghosts of my past hold me back.

I spent too much time worrying about Richard's approval, about Wesley's intentions. Now, it was all about me and what I wanted.

As the day went on, I dove deeper into work. The meeting with my team went well, and the plans for the product launch were moving forward smoothly.

I could feel the momentum building, and it excited me. I stayed late, going over numbers and strategies, fueled by the thought of what the future could hold.

At around 8 p. m., I leaned back in my chair, feeling a little tired but satisfied with the progress I'd made. My phone buzzed, and I glanced at it. It was a message from Wesley. Wesley: Hey, can we talk? I know you're mad, but I want to make things right.

I sighed, tossing the phone aside. I wasn't ready to deal with Wesley right now. Or Richard, for that matter.

They had taken up too much space in my life for too long. Right now, I need to focus on myself. They could wait.

The next morning, I was up early, preparing for the investor call. This was a big opportunity, and I wasn't about to let it slip through my fingers.

As I went over my notes, Zoe knocked and stepped into the office again.

"Sarah, I just wanted to let you know everything is set for the call," she said, smiling.

"Perfect. Let's do this," I replied, feeling a surge of confidence.

The call went better than I expected. The investors were impressed with my vision and the direction I wanted to take the company.

By the end of it, I had secured not only their interest but also a potential deal that could help me expand into the European market faster than I had anticipated.

As I hung up, a wave of excitement washed over me. This was it. This was the beginning of something huge. My company was going to grow, and it was going to grow on my terms.

I stood up and walked over to the window again, looking out at the city below.

For the first time in a long while, I felt free. Free from Richard's shadow, free from Wesley's games.

I had spent too long worrying about what they thought, about how they affected my life. But now? Now it was all about me.

I wasn't the same Sarah who had waited for Richard to love her, or the Sarah who let Wesley manipulate her emotions.

I was stronger. I had built something amazing, and I was going to keep building it-without their help.

A knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts. "Come in," I called, turning to see who it was.

Zoe peeked in with a grin. "Just wanted to say congrats on the call. You nailed it."

"Thanks, Zoe," I said, smiling back. "I couldn't have done it without your help."

She gave me a small nod and then hesitated for a moment. "By the way... there was someone asking about you earlier." My brow furrowed. "Who?"

Zoe looked uncomfortable. "Richard. He came by the office, but I told him you were in a meeting."

I felt a pang of irritation. Of course, he couldn't just leave things alone. "Thanks for handling that, Zoe."

"No problem. Just thought you should know." She gave me a quick wave and left the office.

I sighed, feeling the familiar frustration bubble up. But instead of letting it consume me, I pushed it aside.

Richard could wait. Wesley could wait. Right now, I had bigger things to focus on.

My future was in my hands, and I wasn't about to let anyone take that away from me.
