As Cedrick took a deep breath, he couldn't help but feel a burning sensation in his nose.

Over the last half a year, he had escaped from the jaws of death many times and went through hell and high water with Gwendolyn. Only God knew how much he desired and was looking forward to finally receiving the marriage certificate.

As tears clouded his vision, he bit his lower lip and curled into Gwendolyn's arms before burying his face in her shoulders.

With her arms wrapped around his broad back, she patted him gently to comfort him.

Cedrick kept his head down as he sobbed inaudibly. It wasn't until a short while later that he regained his composure and uttered in a deep voice, "The strong wind has caused sand to enter my eyes. Let's hurry home now, Gwenny."

Gwendolyn played along with a smile. "You're right. The wind is kicking up a lot of dust. If we stay here any longer, even my eyes will turn red."

With that, both of them held each other's hands and clasped their fingers tightly together.

Even though registering the marriage was a glorious occasion, Cedrick and Gwendolyn decided to keep the matter under wraps.

They didn't receive any congratulatory messages or spark an uproar. All they did was spend the day quietly as if it was just another uneventful day of their lives.

When evening arrived, Cedrick invited Nico and Summer over for dinner. They planned to open a bottle of wine and enjoy a simple celebration together.

Since Nico didn't know how to cook, he assisted Cedrick in the kitchen.

As for Summer, she watched TV together with Gwendolyn while helping her peel some fruits.

Once in a while, voices of men arguing could be heard from the kitchen.

"Cedrick, what should I do with this vegetable?"

"Remove its stalk and cut it into smaller pieces."

A short while later, Nico's voice rang out again. "How many pieces do you think is appropriate?"

Thereafter, another question was heard. "Cedrick, how do I peel garlic?"

"Cedrick, what shape should I cut the meat into?"

"Cedrick, the prawns look pretty clean. Do you still want to remove their veins? By the way, how do I do it?"

"Cedrick..."

Unable to endure it any longer, Cedrick blew his top. "Get out!"

Nico let out a cry before he was forcefully pushed out.

Meanwhile, the two women stared at him from the couch.

Scratching his head in embarrassment, Nico pointed his finger behind him. "Cedrick seems to be in a good mood today, so he plans to single-handedly cook up a storm for us!"

A sarcastic snort was immediately heard from Summer.

"You're such an idiot, Nico. When will you ever become like Mr. Jenson and learn how to cook? Stop making me do all the chores already!"

"What are you blabbering about in front of Gwendolyn? Since when did I make you do all the chores?"

Lacking confidence, Nico leaned over and sat next to Summer. "You seemed to have put on weight recently. Even your cheeks have grown chubbier. Who do you think has been working hard and paying for all your food?"

"I've put on weight?"

Summer cupped her cheeks as a horrified look flashed across her eyes. "Gwendolyn, have I become ugly?"

Pursing her lips into a smile, Gwendolyn pinched Summer on her cheeks. "You're not fat or ugly. You look perfect. In fact, you're growing increasingly gorgeous."

Reassured by Gwendolyn's words, Summer shot Nico a glare as she complained, "Look at him, Gwendolyn. He's nothing but a clueless boy. Does he not know one can never call a girl fat? This is outrageous! Nodding matter-of-factly, Gwendolyn added fuel to the fire. "It's outrageous indeed. He needs to be taught a lesson. I happen to have a stick in the storeroom. Do you want to use it to put him in his place?" "Can I really?" Summer's eyes lit up in excitement.

She had been itching to teach him a lesson for a long time.

Gwendolyn egged her on. "Yes, you can. I'll be the judge here. You can hit him all you want, and Nico isn't allowed to dodge."

With that, Summer hurried to the storeroom to retrieve the stick and returned with a devious look on her face.

Nico's eyes widened in horror. "I dare you, Summer! Don't forget who's paying all your bills now. Do you still want your allowance for next month?"

The threat snuffed out Summer's desire to hit him. Pouting her lips in frustration, she settled back on the couch.

Gwendolyn couldn't help but smile. "Have you admitted defeat?"

Despite her defiance, Summer had no choice but to bow down to power. "He can behave with impunity, as he's holding onto all the cards now."

Gwendolyn nodded with an indiscernible grin. "That's why it's important to be financially independent. Only then will your fate be in your hands, don't you think so?"

Her advice triggered an epiphany in Summer, who suddenly had an idea pop into her head.

Nonetheless, to avoid Nico's suspicions, Summer calmly continued the conversation.

"Gwendolyn, you're really amazing. Mr. Jenson has not only offered you all his assets but knows how to cook and care for you. How in the world did you manage to get him to do it?" Even though she remembered how it all came about, Gwendolyn merely smiled in response.

Back then, Cedrick had signed an agreement with her in Fairlake. The first time he cooked was when they were at Bay Villa. He had burned the pork ribs and seasoned the vegetables too heavily. Nonetheless, that was part of a shady past that couldn't be revealed. Otherwise, Cedrick would tear his hair out.

In contrast to the scenes in her mind, she replied in a nonchalant tone, "That's because he always listens to me."

While the three of them were chatting, Cedrick finished preparing dinner.

Due to her pregnancy, Gwendolyn needed her food to be lightly seasoned. Hence, she couldn't take anything that was too salty or spicy.

On that account, Cedrick had researched a few recipes where he could still whip up a delicious meal with as little salt as possible.

Once the food was served on the table, Nico rubbed his hands in anticipation.

That particular day was of significant importance.

Other than being the day Cedrick and Gwendolyn registered their marriage, it was also the day Cedrick rescued Nico from the border.

The very first time Cedrick set eyes on the latter, he was like a barbarian. Nico had no name, let alone a birthday. He didn't know how to speak and could only make unintelligible sounds.

As a result, Cedrick set Nico's birthday to the day he took him in.

That evening, Nico was in a significantly better mood than usual. Having had too much to drink, he had to walk out of the villa with Summer's help.

It wasn't until he stepped out that his drunken voice echoed out loud.

"Cedrick! Boss! My life belongs to you. Even if I were to face death, I would gladly do so by your side!"

It was quickly followed by Summer ranting.

"Save it! Mr. Jenson will just kick you aside. Do you know how heavy the stench of alcohol is on you? How can you even compete with Gwendolyn's fragrant scent."

Back inside the house, Gwendolyn and Cedrick couldn't help but chuckle in amusement.

Thereafter, Cedrick narrowed his eyes and placed his head on Gwendolyn's shoulder. While he nuzzled against it, a mischievous smile emerged across his lips. "Darling, can you give me a night that I'll never forget?"

"A night that you'll never forget? Which kind?" Gwendolyn raised a curious brow.

"The kind where I'll be sent to heaven and hell yet helpless to do anything about it."

Cedrick's raspy voice sounded especially alluring.

As a devious look descended upon Gwendolyn's eyes, she broke into an equally vampy smile. "I got it, Hubby! In order to make it unforgettable, I'll first make it feel like hell before it feels like heaven!" As Cedrick locked gazes with her, his sharp senses detected a crafty look in her eyes.

Gwendolyn gently ran the tip of her fingers across his handsome face as if to tease him. "You're right! It's exactly what you think it is."

Rendered speechless, Cedrick wondered if it was now too late to retract his words.
