Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) -
Chapter 458
Kieran was slightly stunned. His eyes soon fell on the two cups of coffee that she had brewed.
He didn't expect her to prepare one for him too.
Picking up a cup, he took a sip of the coffee.
The water temperature was carefully controlled. After Inez poured away the first round of coffee that she had brewed, the bitterness of the coffee had been reduced. Every sip of the rich and delicate flavor melted in his mouth. Inez had clearly brewed the coffee from her heart.
He finished it and said, "It's good."
Inez gave him a sidelong glance. "Is that all? You sound so half-hearted, Mr. Kieran. Don't be stingy with your words when you're praising a woman."
"This is the most aromatic coffee that I have ever drank. Moreover, it's brewed by my superior. I will never forget the taste for the rest of my life," Kieran said again.
She chuckled, amused by how hard he was racking his brain to sing her praises.
Back then, she had always felt that he was a chaste cold fish. It had never struck her mind that he could be so adorable.
She offered him another cup. "We'll go back after drinking this."
Kieran accepted it. He liked it so much that he couldn't seem to put it down.
The next morning, Cedrick called Craig over for a talk in the name of his superior. Craig could not avoid it.
He appeared in front of the entrance of Harrick Villa at ten sharp.
The security guards let him in quickly. His eyes were narrowed. There was no telling what he was feeling at that moment.
Cedrick and Gwendolyn were sitting in the living room, waiting for his arrival. Their expressions were solemn.
Craig adjusted the collar of his military attire before entering.
"Mr. Jenson, Mrs. Jenson." He stood in front of them with the coffee table sitting in between.
Cedrick cast him a glance, signaling him to sit on the couch at the side. "Sit."
"Thank you, Mr. Jenson." As soon as he sat down, he could sense that Gwendolyn was about to say something, so he immediately spoke first. "I came here today for the matter regarding the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Let's not talk anything about my family's personal affairs."
Right after he finished saying that, the temperature in the living room plummeted in an instant.
Gwendolyn's face was dark. Clearly, she was holding back her fury.
While fixing his eyes on Craig, Cedrick reached out and held her hand to make her feel better.
"Well, as a superior, I think caring about my deputy director's family affairs can be considered an official matter," Cedrick said.
Craig froze. It took him a while to reply. "You're right, Mr. Jenson."
Cedrick went straight to the point. "Jennifer didn't seem to be in good fettle yesterday. She only appeared once at the banquet. Is she better now?"
"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Jenson. She just caught a cold. It's nothing serious. She'll be fine after a few days," Craig replied with a smile.
Cedrick continued asking, "When did you agree to the Abbot family's engagement proposal?"
"Just before the banquet started. It was after Mrs. Jenson and Mr. Treyton asked about the engagement."
In that case, he made his decision after comparing the engagement gifts from the different families.
Gwendolyn flew into a rage. "What do you take Jennifer for? Is she your money-making tool? Why are you making comparisons when it comes to engagements? You don't care about her preferences at all. What a terrible man you are!"
Without the slightest change in his expression, Craig replied calmly, "As a daughter of the Newton family, it's her obligation to bring better benefits for the family."
His remark evoked a laugh from Gwendolyn.
"Tell me, then, did the Newton family play any part in bringing her up?"
Craig pursed his lips and didn't say anything more.
"You know clearly that Jennifer and Treyton have been dating for almost a year. Yet, you sold her off for the sake of interest. Don't you replace your behavior appalling, Mr. Craig?" Gwendolyn continued. Craig stiffened slightly. "Indeed, the Newton family has failed to raise her, but I will make it up to her in the future. As for the engagement..." His voice trailed off. With a resolute look on his face, he went on, "I've made up my mind on the engagement between Jennifer and Remus. Mrs. Jenson, you heard it that day too. Jennifer herself agreed to it. The engagement has been set in stone." Craig stood up and bowed slightly to Cedrick and Gwendolyn. "Mr. Jenson, Mrs. Jenson, if there's nothing else, I'll have to leave first and take care of official business."
Cedrick turned to Gwendolyn. Seeing that she had no intention of making Craig stay, Cedrick let him go.
After taking several steps toward the entrance, Craig turned around and said, "Mrs. Jenson, please help to comfort Mr. Treyton. I'm afraid he doesn't have the chance to be with Jennifer in this life. I hope he can move on from it soon and start a new relationship."
Gwendolyn and Cedrick fell into silence. With a smile, Craig stepped out of the villa.
It wasn't until Craig left that Gwendolyn threw a fit. She picked up the coffee cup at the side and wanted to throw it on the floor.
"Darling, that's the limited edition porcelain coffee set that I bought from the auction last month for tens of millions. Take it easy," Cedrick said.
Gwendolyn narrowed her eyes at him. "Are you worried about money? You think I'm a loser?"
"What are you talking about?" Cedrick smiled. "If you really want to smash it, I'll take out the remaining seven or eight sets in the kitchen and let you throw them until you're satisfied." Gwendolyn couldn't bring herself to do it.
After all, it was a limited edition. There was only one set in the entire world. It would be a pity to break it because of someone as nasty as Craig.
She put down the cup begrudgingly and picked up the glass that wasn't far away.
"Darling, that is the crystal glass from Frosa that costs more than two million dollars. You can throw it. It's a lot cheaper than the coffee cup earlier," Cedrick continued.
Was it worth losing such an amount because of Craig?
Of course not.
She put down the crystal glass and looked at Cedrick in disgruntlement. "Looks like I have no choice but to take my anger out on you."
Cedrick frowned. Biting his lip aggrievedly, he bent his body and moved his face closer to her.
"Anything for you, Gwenny, even if this face of mine is ruined."
Cedrick closed his eyes, waiting to be smacked for real.
Gwendolyn chuckled. She leaned closer to him and pecked his cheek. "How can I bring myself to hurt you?"
Cedrick sprung open his eyes and scooped her up in his arms.
"That answer isn't going to be enough. Only by feeling the warmth of your body can I be satisfied."
