Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) -
Chapter 612
Chapter 612 Showing Off
Logan was stunned, his eyes slightly filled with fear. But he quickly regained his composure and said, "Mr. Jenson, there is no other truth to this matter. Do you think Old Mr. Jenson, who once ran the military world, would lie to you?"
Cedrick lowered his gaze and didn't reply. However, his icy expression was a clear display of his skeptical attitude toward this matter.
"Mr. Jenson..."
"You should go back, Logan. Tell Grandpa exactly what I said. He knows the answer I'm seeking for."
"Mr. Jenson," Logan repeated.
Cedrick simply got up and went back to his desk, then sat down quietly and began to work, acting as if Logan didn't exist.
It was obvious that Logan wasn't welcome there anymore, and it would be humiliating for him to stay any longer. He had no choice but to let out a long sigh and say, "I will convey your message to Old Mr. Jenson, and I might visit again today."
Cedrick immediately frowned upon hearing that. He caught the keyword in Logan's statement, and his gaze became solemn as he watched Logan leave.
Before ten o'clock at night, a confession must be forced out of Yael. This is the deadline I've given him. Otherwise, Xander will be sent back to the previous cell.
And it seems that Grandpa wants Logan to understand the full story today since he's sending him back and forth.
He seems to know about every move I make in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Are his former subordinates and confidants spying on me? Cedrick fell into deep thoughts because of one simple sentence. All sorts of factors and causes began to disturb him in his mind, frustrating him. Ding!
Suddenly, a short ringtone sounded. It was the sound of a WhatsApp message notification.
After giving his phone a casual glance and noticing the sender's name, "Darling Wife," he instantly picked up the phone and checked his WhatsApp.
Gwendolyn texted: How's progress at the bureau? Do you want to have dinner together tonight?
Cedrick stared at the text message for a long while and thought about the things he had to do by that night. Given Yael's temperament, I'm afraid he won't compromise easily before the final moment. Cedrick had no choice but to reject his beloved wife for once. He replied: I can't make it tonight. I'm working overtime. I'll make it up to you next time, Darling.
Gwendolyn: You're working overtime? Until what time?
Cedrick: I'll be done before twelve o'clock.
Gwendolyn: Are you planning to have a packed meal at the bureau?
Cedrick: Yeah...
After sending the message bitterly, Cedrick didn't receive a reply for a long time. Instantly, his heart sank even lower.
Gwenny is used to the meals I cook. She must be unhappy as I can't go home and cook for her tonight.
He sighed, feeling more determined to seek the truth of the matter.
I won't rest until I get the answer today.
An hour and a half later, at six o'clock in the evening, someone knocked on the door.
An officer from the detention center entered Cedrick's office.
"Speak." Cedrick was in a bad mood, so his low voice was laced with a hint of fury.
The officer was momentarily stunned. He quickly answered, "Mr. Jenson, Mr. Yael didn't eat or drink any of the food and water we delivered to him. He gave it all to Mr. Xander." Cedrick was not surprised. "He only has one son. Of course he'll spoil him."
"Other than that, they are putting on a show by hugging each other and acting like a pair of affectionate father and son. It seems that Mr. Yael doesn't plan to confess the truth." Cedrick's face darkened. He continued writing as he said, "Got it. Keep listening to them."
"Yes, Mr. Jenson."
As soon as the police officer left, the temperature in the office dropped by a few degrees.
Cedrick looked cold and terrifying, and he was writing faster and faster.
In his mind, the scene of Logan's visit kept replaying.
How many spies did Grandpa arrange by my side? Or did he keep some contacts he knew from the military?
Xander is merely suffering some minor external injuries; there are no major injuries done to him at all. Yet, Grandpa wants to save Xander so urgently. Is Grandpa actually involved or not involved in the car accident back then?
Suddenly, a cracking sound echoed in the office.
He had exerted so much force on the pen that the tip curved and broke.
Black ink overflowed from the tip of the pen and dirtied the document he had just completed writing.
It was merely a drop of ink, but it had caused an entire paper to be unusable.
Cedrick took a deep breath and suppressed the annoyance within him, forcing himself to calm down.
Without any hesitation, he threw away the pen that had already become useless.
Then, he crumpled the paper that had been dirtied by the ink and tossed it into the bin as well.
He opened the drawer and picked a new expensive pen and dipped it in the bottle of ink. After recollecting himself, he started writing again.
Cedrick forced himself to focus, causing him not to notice someone twisting the doorknob quietly to enter the office.
It wasn't until he heard someone placing down a mug that he suddenly regained his senses and glanced at the item, which had just been placed on the desk.
It was a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
With a frown, Cedrick said in an extremely cold voice, "Who allowed you to deliver coffee to my office without knocking or informing me?"
As he scolded the person who entered the office, he raised his head and met a pair of bright and familiar eyes.
The woman stared at Cedrick with a half-smile, and the smile on her face disappeared when she heard the last sentence.
"Oh? So I also have to behave like your subordinates when I want to get you a cup of coffee personally, huh, Mr. Jenson?"
Uh...
Cedrick froze, and he immediately retracted the hostility in his eyes, his voice becoming gentle once again as he asked, "Darling, what are you doing here?"
Gwendolyn pouted unhappily. "Mr. Jenson, you're working overtime until late at night. Can I not visit you even as your wife?"
"Of course you can. You can always come over and check on me, Gwenny." Cedrick reached out to her, wanting to pull her into his embrace.
She reached out as well but didn't hold his hand. Instead, she slapped his palm lightly as a way to release the anger of being scolded just now. "Seeing that you have to eat packed food alone in the office, I'm here to accompany you."
Taking the opportunity of Gwendolyn withdrawing her hand, Cedrick hurriedly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms, then nuzzled the tip of her nose affectionately.
"You're the best, Darling." His heart was filled with warmth. The gloominess caused by Yael, Xander, and the truth of the car accident back then had vanished instantly. Gwendolyn leaned into his arms and lowered her gaze, glancing at the documents he was working on.
A little worried, she reached out and smoothened his furrowed brows. "It's impossible for someone as skilled as you not to notice when I enter your office. Besides, you don't look so good. What's troubling you?"
"It's still about Xander, of course." Cedrick didn't hide anything from his wife and told her everything.
Although he didn't want Gwendolyn to worry as well, she might think that he didn't trust her if he didn't tell her. It would be better for him to explain the situation truthfully to prevent any unnecessary arguments. Gwendolyn's expression turned solemn after she listened to him. "So, what do you plan to do now?"
"We'll wait," Cedrick replied after kissing her on the lips.
"Wait?"
Cedrick responded with a nod, then caressed Gwendolyn's flat stomach. "Are you hungry, Darling? I'll ask the chef in the cafeteria to cook a more delicious dinner."
"No need for the trouble. I'm here mainly to accompany you. What we eat isn't important."
The two held hands and went to have dinner at the cafeteria.
