Chapter 1689: You're My Mother-in-law
After Joyce arrived in the city center, she parked the car and walkedinto the BR Ice Cream Shop with the two children.
Kiki enthusiastically held onto Joyce's arm. "Auntie, thank you."
“It's nothing, just a small matter," Joyce smiled slightly. “Is your mommyvery busy?"
"Yes, she's very busy, hardly has time to accompany me. She doesn'thave time to take me shopping or take me out for meals. I'm usuallyalone, or with the butler,” Kiki's eyes sparkled with a hint of sadness, looking pitiful.
Joyce's heart softened, and she ruffled Kiki's hair. "But your mommyloves you very much. Whenever she has time, she will be there for you.Look, what flavor of ice cream do you want?"
It seemed to be the case. Besides seeing Torrance on the day of theschool event, she hardly saw her at all. The last time they were at thedepartment store, Reuben took Kiki to buy horse riding equipment.Torrance didn't even prepare these things in advance, which indicatedthat she didn't even have time to check the essential checklist sent toher by the school.
Kiki nodded. She pulled Anderson to the counter.
"Wow, so many new flavors. This Bouncing Candy Mint Chocolatelooks so delicious. Andres, do you want to try it?"
Anderson shrugged Kiki off. "Don't pull me, you're so annoying. I don'twant Bouncing Candy, it's too sweet. Only girls eat that kind of stuff."Kiki said in a sweet voice, "Okay, how about this Sunny King Grapeflavor? Would you like to try it?"
Anderson glared at her. "Buy your own. Don't bother me."
Joyce stepped forward and gently tugged at Anderson. His temper wasbecoming too much, showing an impatient face to a girl. He was justlike Luther.
Anderson was almost fuming, "Mommy, I want a double scoop ofhoneydew and mulberry flavors. No chocolate bits, no almond bits, nocaramel sauce, no sprinkles, just add lemon slices.”
Joyce “.."
What a picky son. It's unbelievable!
"And you? Kiki, what flavor do you want?" Joyce asked gently.
"Well, I'll have the same as Andres," Kiki raised her delicate chin.Joyce was taken aback. Kiki clearly wanted the Bouncing Candy flavorearlier, but now she wanted the same ice cream as Andres. This littlegirl had quite a talent for adapting to the situation. She would beformidable when she grew up.
"Are you sure? You can try some other flavors too," Joyce remindedher. "None of what Andres ordered are new flavors. His taste is quitefixed."
“It's okay. I want what Andres likes," Kiki nodded repeatedly.
"Alright," Joyce went to the counter, ordered the ice cream, andcompleted the payment with her phone.
After a moment, the server handed her the ice cream.
She carried the ice cream and sat with Anderson and Kiki on the sofaseats. Anderson chose a single seat, wanting some peace and quiet.Kiki didn't mind. She sat next to Joyce, holding Joyce's hand, lookingsweet and lovely.
Joyce pushed the ice cream in front of Kiki. "Go ahead and eat. We'llwait here for your mommy to come and pick you up.”
Kiki picked up the spoon and took a bite of the ice cream, happilyenjoying it. She occasionally glanced at Anderson, who had a coolexpression, and took the initiative to start a conversation. "Andres, forthe art assignment due next week, we are paired together. Let'sdiscuss the materials we should use later, okay?"
"No," Anderson glanced at her. "I don't even want to turn it in. You canturn it in yourself.”
Kiki smiled brightly. "Okay then, I'll help you with your assignment too. After all, drawing is my strong suit."
Joyce asked, "Kiki, I heard you had an art exhibition?"
"Yes, there are many paintings that I've done hanging in thekindergarten hallway. Auntie, if you like them, I can give you one. I'veheard that when I become famous in the future, my childhood artworkswill become more valuable. Auntie, you can start collecting them inadvance, and I'll give you one every year," Kiki looked charming, clearlytrying to please Joyce.
Joyce couldn't help but smile. "You're so thoughtful. I've always wanteda daughter. I'll treat you as my own daughter, is that okay?"
She couldn't help but think of Iris. If she found Iris, she might be assweet and lovely as Kiki.
She didn't know what progress Luther had made in his investigation, but she couldn't help but feel hopeful.
“I don't want to be your daughter!" K"I want to marry Andres, how can Ibe your daughter? You're going to be my future mother-in-law. Fromnow on, I'll be good to you," Kiki said seriously.
Joyce was taken aback.
“I want to marry you," Anderson said, his face emitting smoke. “I willdefinitely not marry you."
Kiki held back her tears, looking extremely aggrieved. In an instant, twoteardrops fell and hung on her cheek, evoking sympathy.
Joyce couldn't bear it and comforted her, "Don't cry, it doesn't lookpretty when you cry, Kiki, you're such a good girl. Do you want to havecake? Or cookies? I can go buy them for you.”
“I want a banana muffin," Kiki sniffled, looking pitiful.
"Okay," Joyce got up to buy the cake and also bought some cookies forAnderson.
After sitting down, Joyce asked, “Is your mommy coming to pick you uplater, or is it your cousin who picked you up last time?"
“I don't know, it could be either," Kiki shrugged, pouting.
"It seems like you have a good relationship with your cousin. Does heoften play with you?" Joyce casually inquired, feeling that Reubentreated children with quite a lot of patience.
"How is it possible to see him often? My cousin is a prince, you know? Ithink this is the first time I've seen him," Kiki said with a mouthful ofcake. "But he's good to me."
Joyce was surprised.
So Reuben was really from the Rohomes royal family. It turned out thatKempley, the eldest daughter of the Bryant family, married into theRohomes royal family. No wonder there was no news about her.
