Chapter 1713: Can He Still Be Trusted?
Joyce realized that the problem was far more serious than she hadimagined.
She stood up and paced back and forth in the living room, replayingrecent events in her mind, trying to replace the connections.
But no matter how she thought about it, she couldn't come up with anyclues.
At that moment, her phone rang again.
She stopped in her tracks and turned to look at her phone. The callerID showed Juanita's name. She hesitated for a moment, but if shedidn't answer Juanita’s call, Juanita would only become more worried. After answering the call, sure enough, Juanita's voice came throughscreaming, "Oh my god, Joyce, you just returned to Khebury, what onearth happened? Mr. Warner's first love from ten years ago is back? Isit true or not?"
The voice was too loud, and Joyce couldn't bear such a high decibellevel. She couldn't help but close one eye.
"Maybe it's true, maybe it's not,” she replied vaguely.
"What kind of answer is that?" Juanita complained, "Tell me quickly, what's going on? Mr. Warner has another first love? I've never heard ofit before, and I've been at R&S Group for quite some time. I wouldn'thave missed such a big gossip. I always thought you were his firstlove."
Joyce rubbed her temples. "Juanita, the situation is a bit complicated. Ican't explain it right now. Just focus on taking care of yourself and don'tget involved in these matters. Karl must have advised you as well, solisten to him."
"He told me not to get involved, that it's a matter between you and Mr.Warner. But how can I not ask? You two have been through so much, and you finally had some peace for a few days, and now a first lovesuddenly appears to intervene between you." Juanita shouted.
"All I can say is that there is such a person, but there may be someinconsistencies," Joyce explained, "Give me some time at least. I willhandle it."
"Joyce, no matter what, don't believe those rumors. I believe in Mr.Warner, and I believe in my own intuition. Mr. Warner is not that kind ofperson. The way he looks at you, his actions towards you, it's all filledwith deep affection, and everyone can see it. I don't believe any otherwoman can take advantage of that, even if he had a first love, it'salready in the past." Juanita said.
Joyce responded with a noncommittal "Hmm."
"And you absolutely cannot back down, and you absolutely cannot letthings escalate. You must drive that woman away, do you understand? This is not the time to prioritize your pride. Think about Anderson, thinkabout the fact that you're pregnant with twins. Don't be reserved when itcomes to matters of the heart, understand? Don't hide away justbecause you've been hurt, and end up helping others, understand?"Joyce rubbed her forehead, accepting Juanita's advice. “I understand. Iwon't."
If it was just about a woman, things would be simple.
But it was probably not that simple at all.
"Juanita, another call is coming in, I'll hang up now," Joyce glanced ather phone and saw that her mother Cecelia was calling.
"Okay, remember, if you need someone to talk to, remember to call me.If you need advice, remember to ask me! Bye."
"Okay," Joyce replied before switching to Cecelia’s call.
"Mom, did you call me?" Her voice sounded calm.
Cecelia's gentle voice came through, "Joyce, have you beenexperiencing severe morning sickness recently? Do you need me tocome and take care of you for a few days?"
Cecelia's wording was tactful, indicating that she already knew aboutthe situation. Joyce naturally understood that her mother was askinghow she was doing and if she needed their support.
She replied, "Mom, I'm fine. I'm used to being here, everything is good.Don't worry, everything is normal.”
Unlike Juanita, Cecelia was calm and reserved. "Since you say so, Inaturally feel relieved. The military is changing defense positions at theborder these days. When Mr. Dewey passes through Khebury, I'll havehim bring some things for you to eat and use. You'll replace them useful.”Joyce paused for a moment. It was probably not just about food andnecessities. If Mr. Dewey was making a trip alone, there must besomething else important, whether it was equipment or tools.
"Okay, thank you, Mom," Joyce replied. “I'm sorry for worrying you"Howcould I be worried? I hope I can help in any way possible. Don't worryabout the Capital, I'll take care of it. I'l hang up now, you must be busywith many things." Cecelia spoke softly.
“Yeah, goodbye, Mom."
After hanging up the phone, Joyce let out a heavy sigh. As expected, her phone had been ringing non-stop. Almost everyone who needed tocall her had already done so.
She needed to catch her breath. Cecelia understood her well, notprobing too deeply and offering help without burdening her. It was warmenough to have a mother like her, a true blessing in life.
After taking a short break, Darrin returned to the Warner residence afterdropping off Anderson. He reported to Joyce, "General, I've taken careof everything at the kindergarten. There won't be any privatediscussions.”
Joyce nodded.
Just then, Mr. Arnold suddenly walked in. "Mrs. Warner, someone hasreturned in Mr. Warner's car. He said he wants to collect Mr. Warner'severyday clothes and personal items. I don't know this driver, but hehas a handwritten letter from Mr. Warner."
Darrin was taken aback. "Collecting personal items? Is Mr. Warner notplanning to come home? Is he moving out?"
He turned to look at Joyce, his expression displeased. "General, in thatcase, can you still trust him?"
Mr. Arnold spoke solemnly, "I want to say something. I've watched Mr.Warner grow up. I've never heard of his first love. Mrs. Warner, youmust trust him. It's impossible.”
Joyce stood up and walked towards Mr. Arnold. "Where's the letter? Letme see.”
Mr. Arnold handed over a letter with both hands.
Darrin quickly walked to Joyce's side.
Joyce opened the letter, and indeed, it was Luther's handwriting. Itlisted a general inventory. Ten suits, six overcoats, matching shirts, shoes, ties, cufflinks, and everyday items... The last line read, "Handover to the new driver."
She furrowed her brows and said to Mr. Arnold, "Bring him in."
Mr. Arnold nodded respectfully and went out to bring the driver in."You're the new driver?” Joyce glanced at the person, a tall figure withbroad shoulders and a narrow waist, with a slightly fierce appearance."What's your name?" she asked casually.
The new driver was arrogant and lifted his chin. "Mr. Warner didn't tellme to say."
Darrin found his attitude extremely unpleasant.
Joyce smiled and didn't pursue the matter.
Darrin whispered in Joyce's ear, "He looks skilled, definitely more thanjust a driver. His movements suggest he's trained. He's more thanmeets the eye."
Joyce understood in her heart. Her gaze shifted downward, finallyresting on the driver's wrist, where a small portion of a tattoo wasrevealed.
Her eyes narrowed. Karl had reminded her, and now she was seeing atattoo like this again.
