Chapter 1729: Royal Background
On her way back to the Warner residence, Joyce suddenly received aphone call from Reuben.
Darrin noticed Joyce's phone ringing as he was driving.
"Reuben? What could he want? What role does the Bryant family playin this whole situation? It's strange. They're also connected toRohomes. They appeared in Khebury. I don't believe there's noconnection between them,” Darrin remarked.
Joyce's lips curved slightly. "Since you have doubts, let's see what hewants when he contacts us."
With that, Joyce answered the call.
Reuben's voice sounded somewhat excited. "Joyce, I've seen all thethings happening these days in the news. What exactly happened? Why did Luther suddenly... Are you okay?"
The string of concerns caught Joyce off guard.
"Reuben, I don't think our relationship is at the point where we need toconfide in each other. Why do you care? What's it to you?" Joyce spokewithout much politeness, pursing her lips.
“I'm just worried. Joyce, we must meet. I've chosen the BryantMansion's villa as the location. I'll be waiting for you,” Reuben said overthe phone.
"Didn't you understand what I said? I'm busy. I don't have time to chatwith you,” Joyce replied, feeling annoyed. She didn't have time toentertain Reuben.
Moreover, she had no idea what Reuben's purpose was in coming toPascaylia.
"Don't reject me. I have something important to tell you about OGW,"Reuben emphasized.
“I think you might have the information you want,” Reuben added.Joyce was on speakerphone.
At this moment, she and Darrin exchanged glances.
Darrin nodded.
Then Joyce agreed, "Fine. Send me the location. I'll come over now."Shortly after, she hung up the phone.
When Reuben sent the address, Darrin glanced at it and immediatelychanged direction, heading towards the Bryant family's villa.Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the villa was hidden among lushtrees, creating a tranquil environment, resembling a paradise.
Reuben had been waiting for a while. Grizela stood by his side.
As Joyce and Darrin approached, Grizela tactfully took a few stepsback and stood behind Reuben. At the same time, she glanced atDarrin, a touch of displeasure flashing in her eyes.
Darrin returned her gaze with a stare. Each to their own, he hadn'tcome to see her on purpose, so why would he put on an arrogant facefor her to see?
Joyce sat in front of Reuben and got straight to the point.
"Why did you ask me to come? What do you want to say?"
Reuben shrugged. "What's going on with you? Not long ago, you andLuther were fine when we had dinner together. Why did things suddenlybecome so chaotic? I saw the news, and it doesn't seem like baselessrumors."
"Explaining it would be too complicated, so I won't bother. Thank youfor your concern. These minor matters currently won't affect my normallife," Joyce replied with a relaxed smile.
Reuben looked at her with a hint of heartache. He had thought Joyce'smarriage was happy and fulfilling, but apparently, it wasn't what he hadimagined. If that was the case, he wouldn't mind intervening a bit, asJoyce was truly a woman who deserved to be treated well for a lifetime. He suddenly smiled. "I have a suggestion.”
Joyce asked, "What is it?"
Reuben looked at Joyce, his narrow eyes lifting as he ruffled his silverhair. "Mr. Warner's scandal has been exposed. If you feel dissatisfied, ifyou feel it's unfair, you can choose to have a scandal with meintentionally. We can deliberately let people capture us together. Youcan use it to get back at Mr. Warner. What do you think? I can go alongwith whatever you want to do.”
Joyce was taken aback. She hadn't expected Reuben to say somethinglike this.
"Are you joking with me? Are you making fun of me?" She turned herhead slightly, disbelief evident in her smile.
“No, I'm being serious. Everything I said is genuine," Reuben said witha look of grievance. "Even if you don't need it now, maybe you'll need itin the future. Don't rush to refuse.”
“If you called me to talk about these ridiculous things, then I'm sorry. I'mbusy, so I'll leave first,” Joyce said, showing some anger as shegestured to stand up.
"No, no, no. I was joking," Reuben quickly apologized with a smile."Let's get to the real matter.”
"Go ahead. How much do you know about OGW? Why did theyreappearin Khebury? What is their purpose?" Joyce asked, expressingher doubts.
"OGW originated from Rohomes. It didn't cause much trouble a fewyears ago. But this year, it resurfaced, and it's related to one thing,"Reuben explained. "However, this matter is related to my identity, and Ineed to keep it confidential for now..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Joyce interrupted him. "Identity? Ifyou're referring to your identity as a Rohomes royal, I don't think itneeds to be kept a secret anymore.”
Joyce and Darrin both looked at Reuben simultaneously. They hadknown for a while.
Reuben was taken aback. "You already knew?"
He had thought he had hidden it well. He didn't expect them to haveknown all along. But it made sense; after all, they came from thewarlords. If they couldn't obtain such intelligence, it would meanunderestimating them.
Reuben shrugged. "Well, now that you know, there's no need to keep ita secret. Indeed, I am a Rohomes prince."
Joyce's eyes lit up. The Rohomes prince coming to Khebury-what did itmean? Everything seemed to be getting more complicated withAthena's appearance.
“Your Highness, should I address you like that?" Joyce deliberatelyadopted a polite and distant tone.
Reuben felt uncomfortable. "No need to address me that way. I'm justan unwelcome prince. The royal family is in turmoil, with undercurrentssurging. I could be Killed at any moment. It's not as glamorous as youthink.”
Joyce looked at Reuben sympathetically. She had heard that Rohomeswas currently in the midst of a fierce struggle for succession. It seemedthat Reuben had come to Khebury to avoid the limelight. But that wasclearly impossible.
“Your Highness, I think you should be called that,” Joyce said, her tonefilled with sympathy.
Reuben continued with a bitter smile, "Okay, now that you know, I won'thide it anymore. Indeed, I am a prince of Rohomes."
Joyce's eyes brightened, and she glanced at Darrin. They had knownall along.
Reuben paused for a moment, then continued, "OGW has a strongconnection to the royal family. They've always had powerful backing."Reuben let out a cold laugh.
