Chapter 1802: Flying Far Away
Cloud abruptly got up from Vicki's body, supporting himself next to heras he gasped heavily.
He looked at her, but her eyes were cold, devoid of any warmth. She nolonger resembled the person from before, whose eyes reflected thestars in the sky, full of tenderness. They could never go back.
He sat up and took off his jacket, placing it on her. He buttoned it up forher.
He avoided her gaze.
Picking up the food he had brought earlier from the table, he fed herbite by bite.
Vicki didn't refuse. After sleeping for a day, she was indeed hungry andneeded to replenish her energy to sustain herself. Soon, she finishedall the food. Although it had the taste of her childhood, she couldn't feelthe same nostalgia. Time had passed, and things had changed.
Her hands were still handcuffed, but she awkwardly reached for anapkin on the table and wiped her lips before discarding it.
Cloud watched her struggle to move, and deep down, he felt sorry forher. But he didn't want to let her go, not now at least.
"What exactly do you want to obtain from the warlords?" Vicki sat upstraight and asked. She stretched her legs and jingled the shacklesaround her ankles. "There's no need. If I wanted to escape, I wouldn'thave exchanged Anderson for you and come here with you. I wouldn'thave drunk the mineral water you gave me."
Cloud remained silent, squatting down with one knee in front of Vicki. He caught a glimpse of the red marks and even a place where therewas a faint trace of blood on her ankle from the iron shackles. He tookout the key from his pocket and unlocked her shackles, throwing themaside.
Gently caressing her injured foot, he reached for alcohol and ointmentfrom the nearby cabinet, silently applying them for her.
The orphanage was an institution specifically for idle and wanderingchildren from society. Compared to an orphanage, it was even darker,as the children taken in here often carried the lowest behaviors ofsociety. Theft and fighting were prevalent.
It was like a corner where sunlight couldn't reach, allowing darkness togrow and spread.
Vicki was taken in before him, and because she was younger, eventhough she had created a world for herself, she couldn't avoid beingbullied by older children. When he first came to the orphanage and sawher, she was covered in injuries.
At that time, he was just like he was now. Patiently wiping her wounds.Later, the two of them joined forces, and no one dared to bully themagain.
Cloud still didn't answer until he finished applying the medicine forVicki. He finally spoke up.
"What exactly it is, it's best for you not to know. The less you know, thesafer you'll be. Once I obtain it, that will be the day I leave OGW, Vicki."He looked up. "If you and Felix’s affair, I can overlook it. When the timecomes, I'll take you far away. How about that? We'll go to a placewhere nobody knows us, a small island in the Caribbean Sea. We'llspend the rest of our lives together.”
Vicki smiled faintly. “It's too late. How is that possible? Stirring upbloodshed and chaos and then leaving. Do you think I'm capable ofdoing that? Rayan, you should be very clear. OGW, the Ballard family, the Saunders family, and the warlords all have deep grudges. There'sonly one ending to this."
She paused, speaking word by word. "OGW must be completelydestroyed and expelled from Pascaylia. Otherwise, it will never end."Cloud narrowed his eyes.
Vicki's lips curved into an arc. "Since the day I joined Christian, wehave become enemies in appearance. Rayan, Charity only uses you,it's definitely not gratitude. She's using the Ballard family as well, hidingsuch a big secret from OGW. Charity married into the Ballard family togain more benefits, secretly building up her own power. Now, Christiansees through Athena. Working together to eliminate OGW is only amatter of time. Rayan, you still have a chance to stop. Everyone canreduce the price they pay. Think it through."
Cloud's expression stiffened.
He knew very well that OGW would soon clash fiercely with the majorpowers in Pascaylia. Countless people would be affected. But howcould he be willing? He hadn't obtained everything he wanted.
He looked up, his voice cold. "If I stop, will you leave Felix and comewith me?"
Vicki was taken aback and shook her head. She couldn't agree to suchconditions.
Cloud sneered. "That's why I won't stop.”
Suddenly, he liftedVicki up, getting dangerously close to her face. "Withwhat I want from overseas powers and the money they promised me,once I have it all, including you, I will take you away with me."
He caressed her cheek. "With you in my hands, the warlords willeventually give me what I want.”
Vicki took a deep breath. "Is it related to the electromagnetic pulse? Itseems like Rohomes' imperial family's goals are all connected to thisitem.”
Cloud's pupils contracted sharply.
He didn't answer. He didn't deny or confirm it.
Vicki knew she had guessed it right.
This item was related to the power struggle within Rohomes, theselection of the next emperor, and the tense situation between the twocountries. Ultimately, Rohomes' fire had spread to the land ofPascaylia, disrupting peace.
"With me here, I won't let you have your way," Vicki sneered.
Cloud's expression grew colder. Just as he was about to saysomething, commotion suddenly erupted not far away downstairs.
One of his men shouted, "Boss, something's not right. The Saundershave found this place!"
Cloud's eyes ignited with flames, cursing under his breath. "DamnFelix, how did he replace this place?"
He opened the door and shouted downstairs, "Guard the entrance, don't let them come up. Call for reinforcements from other places."After giving the orders, he grabbed Vicki's arm. "Come with me. Hecame just in time to witness how intimate we are."
Vicki furrowed her brows deeply as Cloud dragged her away, unsure ofwhat he was planning.
Cloud brought Vicki all the way to the balcony, a large terrace that wasspacious. Below, what used to be a large garden was now overgrownwith weeds, desolate and abandoned.
Felix arrived with his men. They had searched the entire Khebury, scouring every place OGW might have been involved, but they couldn'treplace Cloud and Vicki's traces. When he was almost desperate, hesuddenly remembered Vicki mentioning Xiao Zhen. Cloud had alsobecome enemies with the Saunders family because he killed XiaoZhen. So, he thought of this place-the villa that Xiao Zhen used to playwith kidnapped girls.
Sure enough, when he arrived with a group of men, there were signs ofhabitation. They surrounded the villa, and he saw Cloud embracingVicki, their behavior intimate, as they appeared on the terrace together.
