Zenora, The Dragon's Fury
60. Suspicious

Upon arriving back at the Castle, we ordered guards to close the gates, and immediately we had send the Royal guards towards the servant’s house, to make sure that no one left there either.

I had ordered to get all the females inside the grand ball room, and within the hour, they were all in there.

“Emily, what is going on? Why are only the females here?” Cirilya asked me, together with Natalya and Anna.

“Please stay here, I’ll explain later.” I said to them, while walking through the massive room.

The women started to chatter, talking to each other, trying to figure out if any off them knew about anything. The noise became louder and louder, until I was fed up with it. I yelled them to be quiet, and they did eventually.

I tried reading all of their minds at the same time, making my eyes glow red with magic.

“What have we done wrong?”

“Our Queen has never done such a thing as this.”

“Why are we all here?”

The voices of all these women sounded through my head, some with worry, some with suspicion and some out of pure curiosity. But I haven’t found the one who lied to me, all this time.

As I walked through the group of females, I saw them move, turn around, to try and see what was going on.

“Think of something else, think of something else.” Sounded in my head, being repeated over and over again, by one single female.

You would only think of this, if there was something to hide. I had to get closer, to search through her mind.

I couldn’t really pin point, who it was, so I focused my mind on solely that voice. I closed my eyes, and imagined that voice to be alone in the room. As I was listening to her ranting, like it was a tape stuck on repeat, I began to realise who it was. My heart sank, I trusted her to be one of the family, and I would have never suspected her to be the spy!

As I opened my eyes, I looked around to search for her, and found her in the back of the ball room. I stormed my way to her, and without giving her any chance of explanation, I invaded her mind, to search what she knew. She screamed upon my rough break in, but I didn’t care. I am the Queen, and was in my right to search for the spy in our midst.

As she is no mage, it was easy to replace what I was looking for. She was not the spy, yet she had her suspicions and some sliver of proof, of the person that was shady to her. The woman that she was thinking about, had made excuses to leave alone, telling her that she had to run some errands, but also returned empty handed sometimes as well. The spy who she was thinking about, also scolded her for being so close to the Queen, and never did something to end her own torture.

I was glad that she herself, wasn’t the culprit, but was still sad for her, as I had to do something about the actual criminal.

Yet, I have to replace out, what the ‘torture’ she talked about meant. But that would be easier if I had the woman in question, close to me.

“Hold her!” I said to the guards, as I pushed her body into the arms of one of the Royal Guards.

All the women in the room gasped, and started whispering again. I had to replace the one that she was thinking about, but failed in my attempt, as I realized that she wasn’t here.

“Where is she!” I yelled to the woman, that was being held in the arms of the guard. She was whimpering and tears rolled over her face.

“I don’t know! She said she was going to run an errand again! Please don’t hurt her!” She begged me.

I knew she was telling the truth, and I will get to the bottom of the reason behind it all, before hurting someone. But my fury was being barely contained, as the woman in fact, has been trusted to be close to all my loved ones, lived inside the castle for over seventeen years, and was granted opportunities beyond her wildest dreams.

It was confusing though, as to how she managed to stay in here, without raising any form of suspicion. I had read her mind on occasion, to replace out what she was up to, yet I never saw a glimpse of bad thoughts all these years.

Nor could I think of something that I could have done, so many years ago, to have her held such a grudge towards me.

I used the mage link to notify Brock about who it was, and that she was missing now. I heard him growl, like he was a rabid wolf. He was just as furious as me, telling me he would search the city, together with plenty of his warriors, to be as fast as possible.

“Take her to the dungeons, but take her gently. Feed her, and make sure she is warm, as the dungeons are freezing sometimes.” I said to the Royal Guard.

If the bitch has one single shred of love, left for her, she will want to come back. And if she does, I’ll be ready!

“Yes, my Queen!” He replied, and took her by the arm, to guide her to the dungeons.

She screamed and squirmed, apologizing for not telling me earlier. Yet, she knew why I had to do this. I knew she has no shred of bad in her body, but I have to make sure that she is somewhere, where I can keep her safe, and with several guards around her. In case the woman came back from her ‘errand’, I don’t want her anywhere near the innocent and gullible female.

Now I have to go and tell someone, that I have locked up his wife. Which will not be an easy task.

“What!? Why? She would never hurt you! She adores you!” He said.

“I know, I haven’t hurt her in any way, but I have to keep her there, until the spy comes back again. She will be well fed and kept warm at all times, but the dungeon is the only place where I can guarantee her safety. There is only one entrance, and no other way to get in, it is even secured by magic, should someone try to teleport in there.” I said to him.

“Yes I know! But she is my wife, I can keep her safe myself!” He yelled.

“No you can’t! You know what awful mind is behind Hayden! He is willing to do anything, to hurt me! You know he has even drank the blood of innocent children, to use for his Dark Magic. Who knows, what he did to her mother, to make sure that she would listen to him!” I tried reasoning with him.

“Could you at least, make her move to our room? Put up the magical shields around there? Because she needs the air from outside, she can’t get sick in there.” He pleaded.

Why is he so worried about her well-being? She will be perfectly taken care of, down in the dungeons.

I read his mind. Fuck!

“Why didn’t you tell me this in the first place!?” I yelled to him.

“Well, we have been trying for several years, she even had two miscarriages. I didn’t want to tell anyone, until we were certain that the baby was alright.” He said, totally sincere and with sadness in his voice.

“Shit! You could’ve told me, I would have made sure you would get the best care! Cirilya can help with a lot of things as well!” I said.

“Yes, I know, but you are so busy, being a Queen and all, that I didn’t dare to ask you about it.”

I hugged him, I was ashamed that I was so occupied with all my chores and duties, that I hadn’t even realised that this was happening right under my nose.

“Don’t ever dare to think that you aren’t worth my time. Next time, you just come and see me. You hear me?” I said to him, and he agreed.

Immediately I had send for the Guards to pick her up, and put her in the room with Axel. I had also mind-linked my mages to put up safety wards, and asked for Cirilya to come and use her skills, to do everything in her capacity to keep the baby and Mila safe.

Mila was going to be the most protected female in the castle right now.

And Rebecca was going to be the most hunted one.
