THIRD PERSON POV:

"I need one of you to accompany me back to the cabin because it would be easier for them to capture one of us," Hazel said, then closed in on them. "In the meantime, you will have to compel us, Bella. Tell us to only listen to your voice and no one else's. We do not know if they would use a vampire or a witch. I can no longer trust anyone, and I believe they work with vampires too."

Bella nodded at once.

"I'll go with you," Finn said, getting up from the bed. "Ryder hasn't been with Bella all night, so it has to be Kai or me, so I'll just go," he added, and Bella looked at them individually, compelling them.

With that, they both left the room, making their way out of the health facility to the path that led to their cabins. Throughout the entire walk in the partly dark surroundings, they looked back, watching for people who might try to nab them as they increased their pace with each passing second.

Luckily, they made it back to the cabin in no time, and Hazel rushed into their room, walking to her cupboard, which was made of finely crafted wood.

Swiftly, she pulled it open, drawing out a black box. She unzipped it while Finn watched her with no clue what she was searching for. After a few seconds of searching, she pulled out a huge book bound at its four corners by a metal clasp.

"I cannot believe that I thought I would be studying this the entire stay at camp," she said as she dusted the cover with her hands.

FLASHBACK:

"You know you are a Baudelaire," Halle said to Hazel, who had her hand on her forehead because of the pain she experienced from the recovery spell Halle had performed on her. "A chosen one at that," she added, drawing Hazel's attention.

Halle crouched down and opened up her box, taking out a black book, then made her way towards Hazel, who took a few steps back.

"Do not fight it, Hazel, because this is what we were born to do. You are a witch, and a powerful one. They have locked you up for quite long, and I am here to set you free," she said, and Hazel shook her head.

"What if I do not want that life? What if I just want to be with my friends, and..."

Halle grabbed her hand at once, placing it on the book, causing Hazel's entire eye to go white.

"Feel the power, chosen one!" Halle commanded, as Hazel felt a surge of power flood through her entire being. Halle took the book away after a while, and Hazel's eyes returned to normal.

"What..... what was that?" Hazel stuttered, and Halle gave a short laugh.

"Your power, Hazel. You are just like my mother, and your speech works wonders. You have cursed speech," she said, and Hazel looked at her with a brow raised. "Speak to the book, tell it to shrink, and it will obey you," she said.

Hazel hesitated before saying the word, "Shrink."

To her surprise, the book became so small it fit into her palm, leaving her mouth wide open.

"That is the littlest thing you can do."

This made Hazel recall how Nyx made her fall asleep.

"You have cursed speech too, and Nyx has that as well," she said, and Halle shook her head.

"No."

Hazel stared at her without a word.

"We both had to learn a spell to use that, but you have learned nothing. The book chose you, and you do not necessarily need to learn a spell to do that," Halle said, and Hazel scratched the back of her head with her index finger. "Come." Hazel found her legs moving as Halle commanded, then Halle opened up her bag again.

This time, she took out a stick.

"This is a wand. Open up any spell, then read it out and point it at anything," she said, and Hazel grabbed the wand. As soon as it came in contact with her hand, everything felt right.

"Grow?" she said, with her face contorted, and the book increased in size. She flipped the pages and found a color spell.

She said the words in the book, which came out as, "By the power vested in me by this sacred book of witches, I ask you to become whatever color I ask you to," pointing her wand at the wall, and to her surprise, everything turned blue.

"I am a witch!" she exclaimed, jumping up in excitement.

END OF FLASHBACK.

"Hazel! Hazel!" Finn shook Hazel's shoulder for the hundredth time, drawing her back to reality. "What the hell is going on? We need to leave because it is five in the morning already, and the bell will go off by five-thirty or six," he said as soon as her body jerked to his touch.

"I am sorry," she said, getting to her feet. "Shrink," she commanded the book and wand, then cupped them in her palms.

"Must be nice being in your shoes or Bella's," Finn said as they made their way back to the health facility.

They got there after a while, stopping for a moment to catch their breath.

"What took you so long?" Kai asked, and Finn furrowed his brows as he stared at Hazel.

"At least they made it," Ryder added.

"This should only take about two minutes," she said as the book and wand grew bigger. She flipped through the pages for a while, and when she could not replace what she was looking for, she groaned in frustration, tossing the book and collapsing to the floor with her legs crossed.

"Halle says I am a powerful witch, and yet I cannot even replace or think of a good spell to shield us from being brainwashed," she said, and they all sighed.

"So, we are all doomed?" Finn asked, and they remained silent for a while.

"Wait a minute. Shield. If we are being shielded from something, then we are being protected, right?" Bella asked, and they all looked at her without a clue.

"Can you ask it for a protection spell? I think I saw Halle talking to the book one time," Bella said, and Hazel nodded. She took a deep breath, then placed her hand on the book.

"Oh, great book of witches, show me a protection spell to shield my friends and me from evil," Hazel said, taking her hands off the book.

Nothing happened, causing her to groan.

"I shouldn't have even..."

Before she could finish, they felt a cool breeze sweep across the room, and the book flipped open...
