Bella:

"Good morning," Ryder's gruff tone woke me from my slumber, and I opened my eyes to see that the sun was out, causing me to yawn as I sat up in bed.

He sat up too, then kissed my cheeks briefly.

"I have no idea what I want to do today," he said while I stared into thin air like I couldn't hear him. This was because

their birthdays were in five days, and I had no clue what I would get the three of them.

"Bella," he called out, reaching for my hand, and I glanced at him, throwing my arms around his neck.

"I needed a moment to get my body awake," I said to him.

When I pulled away, he held his gaze for a moment.

"Are you sure?" he asked, and I hesitated. "Bella, if it's about last night, I..."

"I told you, I do not want to talk about him. It would be better if I didn't open that wound, and the perfect image of my father remained in my memory," I said to him, then I got out of bed.

At that moment, my phone started ringing, and I grabbed it from the nightstand.

"It's Hazel," I said to Ryder, and he nodded, then I picked up the call, walking towards the closet.

"Riley and I are coming over. We're almost there," she said the moment I answered.

A thought crossed my mind as soon as I ended the call.

"I'm going to take a shower. Hazel is almost here, and we'll be going out," I said to him, and he got up from the bed, closing in on me.

"Do

you need me to..."

"No, you can bond with Riley or, better still, Tyler," I said, kissing his cheek before disappearing into the closet. Hurriedly, I took a shower, then I threw on a shirt and jeans. After this, I wrapped my hair in a messy bun before making my way out of my room. As I opened the door, I heard Hazel's voice downstairs.

"Good morning, Mrs. Carmille," she said, causing me to run down the stairs, meeting them in the living room. There she introduced Riley to Carmille, and I made my way down the stairs with Ryder's eyes boring into mine. "Good morning, ma'am," I said to Carmille, and Ryder walked up to me.

"Why have you been acting strange?" he asked, and I shook my head, walking away from him to Carmille. "Can I get a driver, please?" I asked, and she nodded at once, leaving the room.

I intertwined my hand with Hazel's, then I looked at the boys.

"Hazel and I will be stepping out now, and you boys can have fun..." In that moment, I saw Tyler still standing in his nightwear on the landing of the staircase. "... with Tyler," I said, then I pulled Hazel ut of the living room to the front door before she could react.

"What is going on?" she asked as soon as we got outside.

I sighed.

"The triplets and their birthday. It's tough knowing what to get them," I said as I let go of her hand.

At that moment, the car prepared for us wheeled around, stopping in front of us.

"Well, in that case, we still have time, so let's get going."

With this, we got into the car, and the driver left the house.

Shortly, we arrived at a mall, but things didn't get better for me as there were a lot of gift items, and I felt confused.

"I'll never get them a gift," I said, with my face drawn down as I rested my back on one shelf in the gift aisle. Hazel sighed.

"The beauty of one mate," she said, and I gave her a sharp look.

"You've been with them for months now, so you have to know. What do they like the most?" she asked, and I raised a brow. "I mean, apart from you," she added, and I moved away from the shelf.

"Ryder loves football, and the others are on the fencing team, but I don't really..."

"Buy them something from there, then customize neckpieces with your face since they love you the most," she said, and I chuckled. "They are trust fund children, and I'm sure even if you got them a yacht, they wouldn't care, because they can get one once their parents permit them to," she shrugged.

After hours of contemplating, I settled on getting Ryder a customized jersey and two tickets to a football event. Then I got Finn a fencing mask, and a customized fencing sword with his initials, which was a replica of the first and most powerful fencing sword in the history of Moonfire. I got Kai a replica of the first fencing gloves and a virtual reality fencing game.

"Finally!" I exclaimed as we got into the car.

"Now we wait for the designs to be made and hope they'll be delivered before their birthday," Hazel said as the driver wheeled the car onto the road.

"And we wait for my..."

Before I could finish, my phone began to ring. I took a huge breath as I pulled it out of my bag. It was my father, as I had expected.

"How are you, baby?" he asked the moment I answered, and his once soothing voice slammed into my gut with a feeling of disgust.

"I'm fine, Dad. I'm sorry I didn't tell you I'd be making a huge transaction from the card," I said, and he chuckled. "It's okay, baby. I just wanted to hear your voice. Your mother tells me you're on break, and..." Everything else he said faded away as my mind rushed back to Carmille's story and the fact that my mother had to escape from him.

"So, when do I get to see you?" he asked again, drawing me back to reality.

"I have a lot of schoolwork, Dad, and it will be best if we postpone the visit," I said to him, then I ended the call before he could speak.

I felt as though a stone had been cast on my chest, and my body remained frozen for a moment. Hazel put her arm around my shoulder, pulling me to her, then she rested my head on her shoulder as I tried to fight back my tears.

"It's fine, Bella. We don't always get what we want. My parents were close to perfect, and I don't have them anymore. I think we should live in the moment, and I hope you can forgive him in your own time," she said, and I shut my eyes. Shortly, we got back to the house and saw Ryder, Tyler, and Riley outside with Carmille and Duncan, who were standing by a car.

"We have a function to attend, and we'll be back in two days. Since Tyler has babysitters, we..."

"Mum!" Tyler groaned.

"... he'll be fine. Bye," Carmille said, then she kissed her boys simultaneously before getting into the car with Duncan.

As soon as they drove off, Riley turned to Hazel and me.

"Stay with me, please," Hazel said, fluttering her lashes and giving him puppy-dog eyes before he could speak.
