Bella:
"Do you mind telling me where you went to, young woman?" Mother asked, and I frowned at her, ignoring her and grabbing the blankets on Finn and Kai's bed, plus a bedsheet.
"The moment I saw you leaving school this afternoon, I knew you were up to no good. That was why I had to come over for lights out tonight, and I was so right."
When she said this, I glanced at her and scoffed.
"You spy on me now, Mother? How low can you go?" I asked, then I walked to the window and threw it out for them.
"I didn't expect a student like you to violate the rules too," she said, facing Hazel, who was fidgeting. I could swear by the look on her face that she would pee her pants any time, but I was unbothered.
"What do you want, Mother?" I asked, and she crossed her arms with her brows raised.
The boys jumped back in, and they stood frozen in their tracks when they saw my mom. There was a moment of silence before Ryder stepped forward, all wrapped up in Finn's green bedsheet.
"I'm sorry, Mother. It is my fault that we were outside past bedtime, and I hope you can forgive us."
When he spoke, we stared at him wide-eyed. Why was he taking the blame? Even the twins were in utter confusion. Mother struggled to replace her words because lately, her perfect Ryder had been failing her, and even though it wasn't true this time, I was glad to see her feel wrong.
"I see you would love double detention, Ryder. What has gotten into you? You suddenly do not know how to behave," she said, and he bent his head low.
It was my fault they were in trouble, and I knew at once that I had to save them.
"I am sorry, ma'am. Please do not tell my father about this, because he will..."
"It's too late," Alpha Fredrick said, walking into the room. "I have been trying to hold down my anger, but I can no longer do that. Bella put in a good word for you earlier, but I guess they were not true and she was only trying to protect you," he said, and Ryder looked at him, trying to replace his words.
"I cannot believe you are my only hope in an heir because you are nothing but a disgrace, and..."
"Fred," Mother called out softly.
"Do not interfere, Evelyn. One day I am supposed to leave this pack behind for someone who is..."
"Who hasn't done anything wrong," I said, cutting him short, and both he and Mother diverted their gaze to me. "Ryder has done nothing, and I did it for a good cause."
Hazel looked at me, shaking her head as I spoke.
"Then say it, we want to hear it," Mother said, her face meaner than ever.
"I... we... can we go somewhere private, please?" I pleaded, causing both Mother and Alpha Fredrick to look at each other.
I was the special needs child as a hybrid, so they understood.
"You boys get dressed for bed, and Hazel, hang around in this room until they are back!" Alpha Fredrick ordered, and we left for Hazel's room.
I swallowed hard when we got there, and my heart thumped faster as soon as my mom shut the door.
"Start speaking," she said, and I took a deep breath, looking into her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Mom," I said, and she raised a brow. "You never saw me, the triplets, or Hazel late at night. We were fast asleep like every other student after lights out," I said, and then I took a step back.
She blinked her eyes.
"Bella," she called out in a soft tone, causing me to take a breath of relief.
It worked.
"If you do not get speaking, then I'll give you a heavy ass whoop!" she said in a loud voice, and my heart skipped a beat.
"How?" I asked out loud, looking at her again.
I repeated my words, and she gripped my hand.
"Bellarina Runestone!" She called my full name, and I exhaled deeply.
"Fine!"
"I went out to hunt, and I compelled Hazel to go with me. The boys followed me because they have been keeping tabs on me, and they came after me. I compelled them too, and right now they do not remember a thing about it, so do not bother asking," I breathed out the lie at once, causing her to let go of my cloth.
She was mute for a moment, staring at me like she had seen a ghost.
"Are you sure it worked? What were they like after you compelled them? You shouldn't go about doing that often, I hope you know?"
"Mom, please stop," I said at once, rolling my eyes. "They are fine, and I am fine. I do not need you worrying about me."
"As your mother and legal guardian, I think I do, and you have no right to tell me what not to do," she said, and I sighed, walking over to my bed.
"You want to know why you can't go around compelling people?" she asked, raising her right index finger. "You see this? It is an anti-compel ring, and with it, nothing you say can work on me," she said.
It was quite shocking to know about that, but everything was fine now.
I put down my tote bag.
Then I stared at her with arms crossed.
"I am not here to fight, and I would appreciate it if you allowed me to be. I went hunting. We are fine, so what more do you want?"
"Until everyone starts walking around with anti-vampire stuff, then you'll learn your lesson."
These were her last words before she left the room. Shortly after, Hazel opened the door with the widest grin on her face.
"I don't know what you did or said to your mum, but she was very chill when she came to the room. I wish my mother was the principal or Luna. Maybe I could get away with anything. Gosh, you are lucky."
I feigned a smile when she said this.
Third person POV:
The next day after school, the triplets were relaxing in their room when Fae walked in, looking very happy, which was unusual. According to calculations, she should be red with envy and angry at them because Bella would take her spot.
"Hello, boys," she said, taking a seat at the table.
"What do you want, Fae?" Ryder asked with a straight face. "You are not welcome here for a while, and I thought we made that clear," he added, and she chuckled.
"Aside from the fact my boyfriend is being hostile, I have come with good news," she said, and they glanced at each other. "Good news for me, of course," she added.
"Cut to the chase," Finn said.
"Wow," Fae replied. "I'm glad I trusted my sixth sense when we got into this alliance. I knew you all would switch, so I decided to make you my puppet, and you fell headfirst."
"What are you talking about? Bella won, and it's game over for you," Kai said, and she gave off a short laugh. "That's not how life works, my sweet little Kai. You all played into my nets like puppets, and now you've partially won Bella to your side. She trusts you," she said, staring into Ryder's eyes.
"Yeah, and shouldn't you be off sulking?" Ryder asked, and she scoffed, walking up to him.
"In as much as it would hurt seeing her hands over your body, I am glad she will get the scar of her life. So straight to the point, boys. You won her over according to my plan, and now you play my game."
"And why would we?" Finn asked.
"We had a deal, and I wonder what would happen when Bella replaces out the red-haired kid was paid, and how your act of kindness is acting, and you want to hurt her?" she asked, and they swallowed hard. "And oh, I have it on tape." She played the recording of the alliance, and they kept mute.
"Silence, oh, I love it," she said, taking a deep breath with a smile, which went cold as she stared at them. "The carnival is fast approaching, and you will try to win her over. I don't care how you do it, but make her feel loved and the center of attraction, and when it's time to reject her, I'll let you know. If not, you can kiss your mate goodbye forever," she said, cackling as she left the room.
