300 Days With The Alpha Beta Triplets -
EXECUTION
Bella:
Before I could speak, the guards dragged Ryder roughly across the ground, leading him outside. He struggled
against their grip, his muffled grunts filling the air. His struggles grew more desperate as the guillotine came into view. My heart raced against my chest, and Enzo strolled casually beside me with a smirk on his face. I didn't bother to struggle against the people holding me because I knew it was useless.
"Teenagers," Enzo scoffed, shaking his head in displeasure. "You actually thought you could overthrow me? The arrogance and stupidity amaze me. Even your fathers are no match. All those years I was quiet, I left the instructions to my followers, and you all did nothing but exist in your little fairytale. Foolish wolves!" His voice dripped with mockery as he waved to one of his men. "Let my sidekick have the front seat."
Sidekick. That word brought a disgusting, ill feeling to my stomach, and it made me wonder if things would have turned out better if I hadn't embarked on this journey. I still couldn't believe Mabel is Fae. I had been so close- minded, and I underestimated these people.
I didn't want to fight, but having the front row to the execution of my mate wasn't something I had planned, and it hurt so much to think I would watch something as disgusting as this.
"Let me go!" I yelled, kicking the stone ground, trying to plant my feet on it. I twisted my ankle against their grip, but they were too strong, and they dug their nails into my flesh.
Tears clouded my eyes, and the heaviness in my chest threatened to drown me. I prayed someone would intervene. Even if it were soldiers from the Thorne Pack seeking my blood, it would be better than what was going on. I began to shift the blame, silently blaming Ryder for letting them capture him. Our gazes locked at once, and I mind-linked him.
"Why are you so quiet, Ryder? Please fight."
He stared at me, but he wouldn't reply to my words. I felt he was angry with me, so I stopped trying to speak to him. Then I looked away, as the look on his face only made my heart break more.
"You're lucky I'm feeling generous," Enzo said without even glancing back. "You'll live long enough to see your mate's head roll. Consider it... educational, so if you survive this, you will educate your next generation on why they should respect me!"
Ryder stopped struggling altogether, and I watched as the vampires hit him hard from the back, forcing him to his knees before the guillotine. Then they secured him with iron cuffs. In the twinkle of an eye, a crowd of vampires had gathered to watch the execution.
Ryder bore his eyes into me, as though he were trying to tell me that everything was my fault, and I felt his stare pierce through my chest. He wasn't dead yet, but I could feel it clawing at my chest. It was my fault. I was paying for my foolishness.
Why have you forsaken me, Moon goddess? I questioned, but I couldn't hear her voice. At this point, I began to wonder whether she was real. The vampires didn't really have a particular deity; for example, Enzo had his followers who believed he was going to save them. That was far more believable than worshiping an unseen goddess who had done nothing but forsaken me.
"Go ahead, Bella, call upon your dead goddess. She isn't going to save you. Do you know how many people we have taken from you? And the list keeps going on. I will make sure to crush you, and when I am done, you will willingly submit your life to me," Enzo sneered. Then he stepped forward to the stand where the guillotine was placed in the
arena.
"Behold, the mighty heir of the Frost Pack," he announced with his gaze focused on me. "He has been reduced to a trembling pup. How tragic," he stated. Then he glanced at Ryder, his face curving into a smirk.
"Stop, please. I will give anything!" Words managed to fall from my mouth, but Enzo looked at me, his face contorting in disgust.
The executioner placed his hand on the lever, preparing to release the blade. My heart plummeted, and I shut my eyes, praying for one last miracle. I swore to the Moon goddess that if she didn't save Ryder, I would stop believing in her.
Suddenly, the air shifted. A thunderous boom echoed through the compound, shaking the ground beneath our feet. The barrier protecting the vampire den rippled, shattering like glass. Gasps erupted from the crowd as chaos unfolded. The sharp scent of blood filled the air at once, and my eyes flipped open. Could this be the Moon goddess? I questioned.
Alpha Fred burst into the compound at once, his eyes blazing with fury. Behind him were warriors. In the twinkle of an eye, there was a clash of claws against fangs, and the roar of wolves filled the compound as the pack fought to hold ground.
Fred advanced further, with his men covering him. My heart was still in my throat, but the fact it slowed the execution made me feel a bit relieved. I began to look around to see if there was something I could do. I looked up to see that the vampire holding me was distracted. This gave me an opening to reach for his flesh with my fangs, sinking my teeth into it. He yelped, letting go of me, and then he fell to the ground as the venom began to spread. Enzo glared at me, but I didn't stop. I ran at the speed of light with the chain in my hand, heading towards him, but he struck me before I could get close. I went flying in the air, landing on the ground. Then I looked up to see Alpha Fred staring at
me.
He looked displeased, and he didn't say a word to me. Rather, he morphed into his wolf at once, heading towards Enzo, and Enzo charged at him.
Fred's massive wolf collided with Enzo, sending a cloud of dust into the air. This caused Enzo to stagger back a step, but his smirk never faltered. Fred didn't wait-he pounced again, his claws swiping at Enzo's chest.
Enzo sidestepped effortlessly, and then we watched the little mark on his chest heal at once.
"Is that all you've got, wolf?" Enzo sneered, his voice laced with venom. Then he moved with high speed, driving a fist into Fred's ribs, a sickening crack echoing through the yard.
Fred groaned from the pain, but he didn't relent. He charged at Enzo with all his might, then he caught Enzo's arm. He sank his teeth deep into his flesh, and Enzo gritted his teeth, twisting his arm and slamming Fred into the ground with bone-jarring force. My heart leapt in my chest. The fight between the werewolf warriors and Enzo's army seemed insignificant, as the one in front of me had me on my toes.
Fred scrambled back to his feet, blood matting his fur. His steps were slower now, but he didn't want to give up. He was trying to save his son, and I knew it was life and death. He circled Enzo slowly, and Enzo let out a bone-chilling chuckle.
"You're persistent, wolf," Enzo mocked, then he licked the blood off his arm like the psychopath he was. "But persistence doesn't win wars."
Fred let out a deep growl, the sound vibrating through the air. He charged again, his claws extended, then he aimed low, but Enzo anticipated the move and delivered a kick to Fred's side. His wolf yelped as he crashed into the stone ground, creating a huge dent. Alpha Fred struggled to stand up, but his body failed him.
I rushed towards him, but before I could get to him, Enzo blocked me.
"Do not be foolish, child!" he sneered, then he turned to Fred, stomping on his chest with his boot, pinning him to the ground. Fred let out a low grunt, changing back to his human form with blood dripping from a cut above his brow.
"I expected more from the mighty Alpha Fred, but you have proven yourself as pathetic as the other wolves." "Now, are you ready to watch your son die?" Enzo asked, applying pressure to his chest, causing Fred to whimper in pain.
I had never seen him this weak, and it scared me. Enzo raised his hand to signal the executioner, but Fred spoke. "Stop." Enzo let go of him, then looked down at him. "You win, Enzo. You've made your point, but please spare my son."
Enzo raised a brow, amused. "And why should I do that? I could take him out on one swipe, and you would watch him die pathetically."
"I will give you my life in place of his." My eyes widened when Alpha Fred said this, and then Enzo let out boisterous laughter, turning to face me.
"Do you see that? Two alphas gone," he said, and I swallowed hard. Then he grabbed Alpha Fred, pulling him up like he was nothing. "Ask your men to surrender now, and watch your demise, or your son gets what's coming to him."
As he said this, Fred roared at his warriors, and they came to a halt.
"This fight is over!" he commanded.
Enzo pushed him toward one vampire like he was nothing. The executioner freed Ryder at once, and Fred was pushed up the stand. Ryder grabbed his father's hand.
"Dad, you do not have to do this," he spoke for the first time.
Fred let go of Ryder as the executioner pushed him to the stand. "You have a great future in front of you, so do not
feel sad," he said to Ryder, and I expected him to cry or groan, but a smirk formed on his face.
