THIRD PERSON POV

Ryder's eyes gleamed with mischief, and suddenly his body morphed as he turned into a random vampire. Both Fred and Bella remained in shock, but it was too late for Fred, as he had been placed against the stand.

"Ryder...?" he managed to choke out as his face paled. The vampire turned to him, letting out a chuckle before facing Enzo.

"Well, isn't this a surprise?" he chuckled darkly with a smirk on his face. "A wolf becomes a vampire."

Everything began to make sense to Bella now, and she realized why Ryder couldn't speak to her with a mind link. The tension must have made her think he even heard her in the first place. How Enzo was outsmarting them made her feel foolish. He was truly one step ahead. She had fallen headfirst into this because Hazel said the triplets were attacked, and she believed they may have captured Ryder.

"I am sorry, Bella," Fred muttered, and she shook her head with tears crawling down her face.

"You wolves are pathetic, and your emotion is the reason I keep being on top," Enzo said, snapping his fingers. Before Bella could say or do anything, the lever was pulled, and the blade fell with speed, cutting Fred's head clean off. Enzo stood over the head with his eyes cold and satisfied.

"I hope you have learned your lesson," he said to Bella, who found it difficult to breathe at that moment. She felt her whole world crash down, and soon her breathing thinned out, causing her to crash to the ground, blacking out.

"Come here!" Enzo beckoned to one of his vampires. "Take her away and lock her up. Make sure she doesn't escape. Then you scoop up the royal blood. Drain his entire body," he ordered, and the man nodded.

Then he commanded the rest to clear out the bodies of the dead wolves and vampires. The werewolf warriors were also captured. They had surrendered easily after seeing their alpha's head roll.

**

Hazel had been living her days in hiding after Enzo and his cohort struck their cave. She had been trying to communicate with the triplets and Riley, but their phones were dead. That was expected, as they had been wandering through the wild like fugitives.

For hours, she had been walking with her magic, serving as protection. It was really her and her spell book against the world. After hours of wandering, darkness crept in, and she built a protective spell around her. Then she laid her back against a tree, trying to get some rest.

Not long after she shut her eyes, she felt a cold, gentle breeze engulf her, causing her eyes to flip open. Her surroundings became misty, and as she squinted her eyes, she saw a figure step forward, glowing brightly, making it impossible for her to see who it was.

"Hazel," a familiar voice called out at once, and relief crept into her chest.

"Halle?" Hazel whispered, and then the bright light dimmed a bit for her to see Halle. She was in her last form, with her skin and eyes sparkling like the stars.

"Yes, Hazel, it is me, but as you can see, I am dead." Hazel felt her breath hitch as she heard those words. She hoped Halle was pulling her legs.

"You are joking, right?" she asked Halle, who remained still. When Hazel realized Halle wasn't changing back to her human form, she knew she wasn't joking.

"I do not have much time left, and I am here to pass on what I have for you," she said, and Hazel shook her head at once, tears crawling down her skin. "There's no time for that, child. Enzo killed me, and Bella is in trouble, so brace up. This is my destiny, and I have fulfilled it."

"No, this is a dream, and I am going to wake up to the fact that you are not dead," Hazel still tried to convince herself. "This isn't real." She tried to push herself up, but her body wouldn't move.

Halle let out a sigh.

"Yes, you are asleep, Hazel, but this is the only way I can reach you without creating a link to the dead. I'm dead, but I still have the power to speak to you, so listen."

"I will be here to guide your every step, so please do not cry so hard for me," Halle said as she reached out for Hazel's cheek.

Her touch felt warm-too warm for a ghost's touch, and warmer than when she had touched Hazel alive.

"Go back to the cave, Hazel. There is a way. You need to replace the pillar with the handprints." Hazel glared at her like she was crazy.

The pillar disappeared the last time.

"Ten witches guard the cave. They are not descendants of our family, but they are known as the guardians. Enzo is stronger than anyone can imagine. His magic is vast," she said.

"The last time I went there, it threw me away and rejected me. So what are you talking about?" Hazel asked. "Because you did it wrong. They are guardians, and they are quick to anger, especially to other supernaturals. You are a hybrid. Half witch and half wolf. You angered them, and I didn't think it was right to tell you the secrets then because you cannot just summon them or you risk death."

Hazel's breath caught in her throat as she heard this, and she felt fear slowly creeping in, but then she pushed it away, focusing on what Halle was trying to say to her.

"The pillar that you encountered before can be summoned again. You have lost your default chance with them, and you need a spell to raise it up again." Hazel listened attentively as Halle spoke. "I do not have to go over this one because your spell book can always guide you," she said, and Hazel nodded.

"Once you have summoned it, run your hands down the pillar until you replace something like a button. Push it to unlock a compartment that holds a blade. Then cut your palm with the blade and let a little blood drip on the ground. This will let them know you are there. After this, place your bloodied palm on the palm symbol." Hazel nodded at every word. "Then say your name aloud, stating you are a Baudelaire witch and you were sent by me." "A secret passage will open up, and you will pass through it, but do not look straight. Go in with your back because you cannot view the council of witches without permission. You might be stronger than them, but you need permission." When Halle was done speaking, Hazel still stared at her with fear in her heart. It was all too much, and she was still trying to process the fact that Halle was dead.

"I am not strong like you, Halle. What am I going to do without you?" she asked, and Halle reached for her hands. "You are going to do everything without me. This is your destiny, so do not allow anyone to live it for you. Like I said, I have fulfilled my destiny, and it is time for me to rest, so please do not beat yourself up. Do what I have said, and this battle will be half won," she said, and Hazel sighed deeply.

"The witches are a second alternative to release Radolf Clawmark, so when you get there, be straight to the point when they question you, and if you are asked to look, please do that quickly."

Hazel nodded. "There is one more thing," Halle said, then she pressed her thumb on Hazel's face. "With the power vested in me, I transfer my energy to you, Hazel Baudelaire." Halle chanted a spell as she said this, and Hazel felt a surge of power go through her at once. Then Halle let her go.

"It is done. Now go and win this war. Remember, I will always watch over you, and I will visit you frequently when you fall asleep." After this, she disappeared before Hazel could utter a single reply.

In that moment, Hazel jerked up from sleep with tears crawling down her eyes. Her heart ached as she realized it wasn't just a nightmare. More tears fell down her face, and soon she burst into full-blown tears, clutching her chest tightly. She sat there and cried for a couple of minutes before wiping her tears and getting to her feet.

"I cannot be weak right now. I have to keep moving," she said to herself, then set out at once with determination to replace the cave.
