-Dante walked slowly, hands in his trouser pockets, a few metres ahead of the wolf.

Lukyan had insisted on walking alone. He had told him, letting go of his arms, that if they kept helping him with everything, he wouldn’t be able to get up on his own; that he appreciated their help, but he needed to do it.

A determined wolf, with a strong spirit, he increasingly realised that he fit the bill. It was still early days and he could not be captivated, after more than 600 years of firm conviction. The reign of the Silver Pack was not, would not belong to just anyone.

The omega took one step in front of the other, measuring strength, distance, his breath. Too many years had taken their toll, he needed to train again and regain his strength as soon as possible.

He followed Dante, who was keeping a safe distance, but still keeping an eye on him. The wall was his best support, when it ran out when he reached the stairs, things got complicated. He was more than sure he wouldn’t be able to reach the second step without rolling towards the floor.

He swallowed hard and apparently the alpha noticed; he turned around and carried him.

He let himself be carried. Dante had told him they would see his pack, so he would not refuse this help. He wasn’t proud enough to pretend to be all-powerful and believe he could go that far, he knew his weaknesses and his body’s current capabilities. Dante didn’t seem to want to attack him, so he would allow himself this luxury for the time being.

The wolf released him again as he stood on the first floor and the masculine warmth that became comfortable left him, unwilling to admit it. Lukyan felt the weight of several gazes upon him and he grew nervous, the hall of the great mansion seemed to be occupied by several wolves he could not define. Still, he didn’t lower his head and resumed his walk behind Dante, using his back for support. It did not seem to bother the wolf, for he showed no sign of it.

A light blinded him when he reached the entrance and the door opened, it was too much for his weak eyes. He backed away slowly, trying to shelter himself from the discomfort it caused him, but his hands were taken and wrapped around the wolf’s thick arm.

-Hold on to me, on the way there won’t be much support and you’re very unstable- the alpha had noticed that his legs, from time to time, made the attempt to give way under Lukyan’s little weight and his knees seemed to be going through their worst- I know you don’t want me to be alpha around you, but you’ll have to resist for the moment- he explained, worried about his lack of coordination and physical instability.

The omega raised his head, trying to focus on her face, he would like to see her expression. He wasn’t used to a wolf being so kind to him, let alone one that claimed him as his own, without even having exchanged more than 20 words.

-Thank you,” he said briefly.

Her small thank you apparently took him by surprise.

-Don’t thank me yet,” the alpha pretended not to hear him and resumed walking, feeling the extra weight at his side, a weight that wasn’t bad at all.

Several of his pack stood or commented as they passed. Dante ignored them, he was rarely in company and that he was a stranger to the pack was new to them.

They walked for several minutes that seemed like hours to Lukyan, until they reached the back of the small wolf village to replace a complex of smaller buildings a few yards away.

At this point, the omega felt his legs trembling and totally unsteady. Every step he took was more difficult and his knees creaked dangerously. Too much effort for one day, but the desire to be with his own kind kept him going.

Dante stopped and made him let go. Being without a support Lukyan swayed hopelessly, but the wolf had not moved away. He knelt down and wrapped his arms around his thighs, bending at the elbow; sitting on his arm, pulling him to him to steady him.

-Hold on to my neck,” she said once he sat up.

Lukyan hesitated at the action, though the relief in his legs was immediate. She placed her hands on his shoulders, letting him walk to his destination.

-I will allow one of your sons to accompany you to walk through the courtyard of the mansion, you need to regain energy and fitness if you want to transform and not suffer in the process, last time it took you several days to wake up,” he spoke without realizing that he was giving orders without Edgar, showing also how attentive he was to the recovery.

Lukyan listened to the words as they dissolved in the soft afternoon breeze, it felt good to have nature around him, the freedom of the fresh air on his face and skin.

-You’re pretty quiet for having been in the position of queen of your pack,” the alpha felt ridiculous practically talking to himself. He lifted his free hand and curled his finger in a short, more neatly arranged lock of dark hair at the neck in a straight cut, “Your hair,” he tilted his head, smiling slightly, “You look good like that.

-You’re too nice to be an alpha,” he replied calmly for the first time since they had left the mansion.

He didn’t like Lukyan’s response, what was the image he had of them? Sylas had definitely done everything to show off.

-Alphas can be nice too,” Dante kissed the tip of his hair before releasing it and focusing on the road.

Lukyan blinked, taking in his words, only to recover later – nice? Was that word in his dictionaries? She wouldn’t break her head over such trivial things, in the end all wolves were like that with omegas and a dark purpose behind them. Her own husband had used that ruse on her innocent youth. He was no longer a naïve puppy; he would not fall into her nets, no matter how “nice” he was. As long as his children were under the alpha’s tail, he would have to put up with it.

Dante stopped in front of the compound. Lukyan could feel his body relax, without losing his guard, apparently he didn’t want to scare anyone.

-My queen,” a familiar voice reached the wolf’s ears.

Ryan had come out of one of the doors and was running towards them, stopping when he saw him on the arm of the imposing alpha, in every sense of the word.

-Dante,” he whispered, “You can put me down, I think I can hold my own now, my feet don’t hurt so much anymore.

Dante turned his face so close to his. His words seemed unconvincing. Still he did it, he didn’t want to make him lose what little power he had left in front of his people, that could end up breaking him.

With effort and a lot of willpower, Lukyan left her feet on the ground and without a firm support she miraculously stood upright. Dante at her back watched her movements to act when necessary, she was still very fragile and a fall could hurt her more than usual.

Ryan finally approached him and knelt down taking her hands with tears in his eyes.

-My queen, my queen, it’s okay, you don’t know how happy I am to see you.

-I am too, Ryan.” Lukyan smiled slightly remembering the composure of his reigning days, a tycoon had to appear dignified and confident, even in the most complicated moments.

-Hearing his voice was all he needed- his former beta kissed his knuckles, leaving his lips longer than was appropriate, or so it seemed to Dante as he let out a high, involuntary growl that made the wolves before him flinch and eye him warily.

“Had someone gotten jealous?” -thought the wolf looking at him sideways and frowning.
