Dante only had time to raise his head in the direction of his beta before he smiled, hiding any expression that might frighten the girl. Laira was the youngest of the five siblings in both age and body, barely reaching his h*p, but her eyes showed none of the childish innocence of a pup of her age.

-And why can’t I marry Lukyan,” he asked curiously.

-Because he cannot be queen,” the girl’s voice came out sharp and indignant.

The two males looked at each other in disbelief.

-I am the alpha of this pack and I have decided that he will be my husband, and there are other matters more complicated than your little mind would understand,” he explained patiently, despite disliking Laira’s attitude.

He saw her frown and look at him with loathing? He liked her less and less.

-He can’t be queen,” she repeated again, her lips tightening, “I am the one chosen to be queen, Papa promised me,” she insisted stubbornly.

Dante raised an eyebrow and sighed.

-Laira, whatever your father said now is not valid and you shouldn’t talk about your mother like that, he has done enough for you while your dear father was constantly abusing him,” the alpha replied, not understanding what the pup was getting at.

-If he did it to her for a reason,” there was not the slightest trace of filial love. He continued to attack the wolf without remorse and to their astonishment.

-Dante raised his voice and even the back of Falco’s neck bristled, the alpha was upset. “Watch your words when you refer to your mother, I will not tolerate disrespect from anyone, least of all her children,” the pup went too far in questioning the leader’s authority, something unthinkable by Falco’s standards.

The girl clenched her fists and her eyes filled with tears as she muttered under her breath, yet the wolves could hear her.

-He promised me, he promised me, because he had to show up to break all the plans,” a mixture of feelings poured from her lips, resentment and loathing looming large.

Falco was about to intervene, but the girl just turned and ran away.

-She’s just a little bitch, she’ll need some corrections, I’ll talk to her brothers later,” he said, definitely furious.

The beta bowed his head.

-Does she need anything else? -He didn’t dare to contradict him, the pup didn’t measure the extent of his words. No wolf in her right mind dared question the alpha.

Be alone for a while, I’m exhausted – the union of the two packs, the relationship with his queen, the confrontation with the council and Laira’s words were taking a heavy toll on him.

-As you wish,” Falco closed the door softly and pursed his lips. He sensed a storm coming, and the eye had a name.

Lukyan rapped his knuckles on the door to Matias’ room. It was a torturous few minutes before it opened. The wolf wore a calm expression, as if he had been pondering many matters.

-I’m glad you answered,” Dmitri, who was standing next to the wolf, reached past the omega and grabbed his son’s wrist and pulled him out of the room, “You’re coming with us,” he ordered unceremoniously.

Matthias growled in response and the alpha’s brother only gave him a sidelong glance.

-You don’t want to make a spectacle of yourself in front of your mother, because you wouldn’t touch a hair on my head,” he threatened in a low voice, so that only the youngest could hear him.

Matias held his gaze for a few seconds and then withdrew it in surrender. Axel tilted his neck in surprise, it wasn’t normal to see his older brother so passive and quiet, what had happened to make him change so drastically.

Dimitri led them through the mansion to a back garden that was too large and richly decorated, both with carved sculptures and a variety of wildflower plants.

-My brother is a perfectionist, so when he had this place decorated I had to study for two months to make everything look extravagant, so he would go crazy with so many ornaments and not criticise it,” the elder explained to Lukyan, Axel, Sasha and Matias, hearing their exclamations.

He took them to a quieter place and left the basket he had sent to prepare for the afternoon snack, those bodies had to be kept with enough food, especially Lukyan’s, who was at least 10 kilos short of his ideal weight.

-It’s rare for him to join us,” Lukyan deduced as Sasha helped him sit down.

-My brother’s orders, besides, a change of environment doesn’t hurt, I’m saturated with bad tongues and violent wolves for the next ten years,” he commented, referring to recent events.

Axel smiled at the comment and slung his arm over the commander’s shoulder confidently.

-As long as you don’t notice your brother’s fiancé and don’t do anything untoward, everything will be fine,” he joked only to receive a grunt from Lukyan.

-Axel,” he called in a slow, but firm voice.

The pup just smiled and resumed his place, stealing a snack from the basket on the way, which he shared with Sasha.

The footsteps of someone running in their direction caught their attention and they all looked except for the wolf who would have no use glimpsing who it was.

-Commander, can you come with us for a moment, two guards can’t agree and we need your presence,” there was urgency in the newcomer. The confrontation between two wolves was inevitably coming to a fight.

Dimitri clicked his tongue in annoyance, it was not a good idea to disobey alpha. Finally he got up and accompanied him against his will, after making sure that the whole environment was quiet. For a few minutes to disappear, nothing would happen.

About ten minutes had passed when they heard footsteps returning and Sasha joked about it.

-She was about to go on, but stopped her words when she smelled the pungent, threatening scent.

Three of the males became alert and Axel moved in front of his mother to protect him, while Matias just stood tense in his place watching the events unfold.

-Well, I didn’t think my presence would be received in such a manner, even when I deserve more than respect,” the newcomer joked, aware of his immense power.

Lukyan touched Axel’s shoulder, who was trembling at the red-haired wolf’s arrogance. The omega recognised the alpha of the council and knew his character, after all he was the one who had sent him to kill. He had to be cautious, upsetting him could be lethal, even if they were under Dante’s protection.

-How can we thank you for your presence before us,” Lukyan asked, sitting up and stepping in front of his sons to cover them, they were the easiest target. The alpha gave a half smile.

-I come on good terms, I want to make you a deal,” replied the alpha, noticing the wolf’s manoeuvre.

Lukyan was unfazed, and he continued.

-I propose that you help me with a certain problem I have in my pack and in return I promise to cure your eyes,” he stared into the purplish haze of his orbs, “It’s the one sense you haven’t fully recovered, I could remedy that and any remaining problems you may have,” he offered with a deceptive kindness that made the omega’s hair stand on end and made the pups even more nervous.

He just blinked and lifted his chin firmly.

-I appreciate your proposal, however, I am not interested, I have some unfinished business and I have no intention of leaving or separating from this pack at the moment,” he explained in a cold and confident tone. Something he was far from feeling.

-You shouldn’t try force, precious, I don’t like refusals and could use violence if necessary,” he threatened.

Lukyan knew things could get out of hand and the alpha would take it as an excuse. He would have to bring his cards into play as well.

-You should check with Dante first and see what he says, then I’ll take orders from my future partner,” he advised with mock submission.

Lucian gritted his teeth and moved closer to him until he was only millimetres away, almost able to feel both of their breaths. His fingers curled around his neck loosely, only threateningly. The three juveniles behind him growled, but they couldn’t move, their bodies paralyzed by the superb scent of the alpha dictating to every cell in their bodies to bend.

-You’re smarter than you look,” he squeezed her hand lightly, “it would be a shame if I had to use violence to force you to join me,” he whispered in her ear.

Lukyan held still, not breathing, not swallowing, he was afraid, panicked, terrified, this alpha could end his life in a few seconds, he didn’t want to be near him.

A growl from beside him brought him more relief than he expected and a hand grabbed Lucian’s and pulled it away from his throat.

-By what right do you touch him,” he rasped the words with barely contained fury.

-Oh, welcome, you took you long enough to show up…Dante.
