5 Puppies For The Alpha -
Chapter 35
Lucian kept the smile on his face, despite the strong grip on his wrist and the threatening scent of the alpha before him. No one but himself knew the reaction to having something that was his own touched. He found the scene funny. No matter how upset either of them were they couldn’t fight, that would be a fatal crime.
Dante growled, baring his fangs and scowling. He wrapped his arms around Lukyan’s waist and held him as he felt the small body tremble beside him.
-Lukyan,” the name pronounced with a veiled threat.
-Let go of me,” the red-haired alpha asked calmly, but with a demanding tone.
-What if I didn’t,” he growled. The colour drained from his face, revealing his eyes with a menacing glint. Lucian noticed and continued provocatively, “You would jeopardise the safety of your pack for a wolf? I don’t recognise you,” he sneered.
Another growl in response.
-Oh, I see,” he stepped closer to Dante, “Your zeal is bordering,” he raised his eyebrows and then relaxed it with a smile again.
He shook his arm free and took a step away, showing no sign of surrender.
-Let’s talk some other time, when you’re in your true senses,” he turned and began to walk away.
-Don’t go near him again, Lucian, I won’t patronise you next time,” Dante told him through tight lips.
The other just continued on his way with his hands in his pockets and ignoring his threat. If they started a fight now, they would be punished by the other members of the Council no matter that Lucian was the one leading it, he even more so for provoking it by being near their rut; where wolves, especially alphas, were especially violent. He would have other opportunities.
No one would say no to him and nothing was out of his reach.
Dante gripped Lukyan’s waist tighter as Lukyan’s legs faltered and buckled as he let out all the tension. He held him tightly and kissed his temple.
-Calm, soothing,” she said in a calm voice as she saw his state, omegas were too susceptible to alpha commands or threats and easier to bend, no matter his character, “Breathe deep,” she pressed her face against his shoulder so he could smell her scent. It was stronger than usual at the moment but at least it wasn’t hostile like Lucian’s.
-Dante,” his voice sounded shaky, “Your zeal…. -He couldn’t continue.
-I know beautiful, don’t worry, I won’t be around for when it comes, I know you don’t like this part of the males.
He, now more relaxed, managed to keep himself stable although the wolf’s arm kept him clinging to him. Throughout the days they had been together she had realised that his character could be demanding and very dominant, but at the same time kind and she cared for him in every possible way.
-Ma – Axel called out to her. His countenance was calmer. Being under Dante’s protection made them feel safe.
-Where is Dimitri? I thought I told him I couldn’t leave them alone,” Dante said angrily.
-Someone came in for an emergency and had to run away,” the pup replied.
The alpha clicked his tongue and finally sighed. His twin had enough responsibilities as it was, and he couldn’t reprimand him for fulfilling them as Pack Commander. He helped Lukyan back to his seat and took the place beside him.
-I’ll stay while he’s gone, I don’t want any trouble with Lucian again,” he reported for everyone’s peace of mind.
Matias in turn stood up.
-If you’ll excuse me, I’ll leave.
-Matthias,” the alpha’s voice sounded serious, giving no chance to reply, “Sit down and share with your family,” it sounded like a simple request, though there was no doubt it was an order from the pack’s alpha.
The young wolf looked as if he was going to show resistance, yet he obeyed without speaking. Dante knew he was dealing with enough, but isolating himself was not the solution.
Dimitri closed the door to his twin’s room. He was gathering some basic clothing for temporary isolation.
-Brother I… this afternoon…” he began to stammer.
-Dante paused to look at him, but it would have gotten complicated if he hadn’t shown up, you know Lucian and his bad habit,” he reminded the Commander, knowing the red-haired alpha’s weakness for looking for trouble.
His twin lowered his head, feeling ashamed of what had happened.
-Dimitri, tonight I fall into heat, I will seclude myself where I always do,” he approached and put his hand on his shoulder, “I need you and Falco to take care of the herd this time, and take good care of my future husband. Don’t fail me this time,” he was giving him a vote of confidence as brother and subordinate.
-Yes brother,” he opted for a straight and respectful posture, “And what do I tell them if they ask,” he was referring to the omega and his offspring.
-You know how I get – he spoke as the twin, not the alpha.
His jealousy was, unlike many, too strong, it made him lose his sanity completely, and the need to bite was terrible and although now he finally had someone to bond with, he didn’t want their first time together and their bond to be forced or violent.
Lukyan didn’t notice Dante and that surprised him, the wolf tried to be near him most of the time so he could get used to his presence and by now he didn’t even bother. On the second day, he approached Falco, inside the alpha’s office.
-Where can I replace Dante,” he kept his back straight even though inside he was more than nervous, he didn’t feel comfortable in his presence even if he was Bastian’s husband and he raved about him.
The wolf stopped what he was doing on the bureau and looked at him relaxed.
-He’s in seclusion, his rutting stage is here and it lasts three days plus one for him to recover so we won’t see him for a while, we’ve even had to postpone some matters,” referring to Sylas’ sentencing, but he didn’t want to go into details.
Lukyan nodded his head, his palms were sweaty, the word zeal and alpha in the same sentence made him panic, more than once he had felt first hand the violence it generated in them.
Gratefully he turned and left, heading down the corridor that he knew by heart so he could walk without a guide.
-Ma,” he heard a soft, feminine voice behind him.
-Laira,” he called excitedly, turning to meet his daughter, a small puppy who would surely be beautiful if he could see her in detail.
-Ma, come with me, I want to show you something,” the girl with a smile grabbed Lukyan’s hand and pulled her, almost running down the hallway. The wolf let himself be carried along without a care in the world.
By the time they had run further than stipulated and reached an area Lukyan could barely define, the hand was released by his daughter.
-Laira?” he called out to her with a hint of distrust, something wasn’t right, his instincts told him so.
-Ma, follow me,” she invited with a smile that would have made the omega’s b***d run cold if he had seen her.
He defined in the distance the silhouette of the girl who was waving her arm, entering a darker corridor, where the light only penetrated through the black velvet curtains.
-Come back,” Lukyan asked with a frown.
-Catch me, ma, come,” Laira insisted.
The omega pursed his lips and advanced cautiously, listening to his daughter’s voice as it trailed down the corridor. He stopped after several metres and began to tremble suddenly, as an electric current ran down his spine. She swallowed dryly and turned her face sideways.
Where was he? He could no longer hear Laira’s voice, only a soft, faint chuckle in the distance.
He was about to take another step when the sound of a door a few feet away from him slowly opened. If he was trembling before, now he couldn’t name what his body was doing. Hunching down in alertness, he took a step back to stand still again.
A wolf emerged from the chamber and stopped, focusing its attention on him. She could even make out the gleam in his eyes and the powerful scent, demanding of a rutting alpha that flooded every part of the hallway to the point of being suffocating. I knew where he was.
Where Dante was secluded and now, watching him, as his next prey.
